Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I got mine on Amazon. Might be different now with Brexit and the issues with Deliveries.

    Hi .

Anyone know how to cancel auto renewal of GeForce subscription?
I signed up thinking it would give easier access to some of the free games but actually now I have no idea what it is .
Really hate when companies put auto renewal in place and then make it next to impossible to remove that setting !
You would expect this to be in “manage “ section but no .

Have the pro (with gaming controller version) boxe type version. Lately the small remote control is absolutely destroying batteries and a near monthly basis. We do use the nvidia a lot but I wouldn't expect it to need batteries monthly. Our first set of batteries lasted over a year I believe.

Any tips on making it last?

As an aside I'm trying my hardest to hook up alexa to the nvidia but it's won't let me coz it says I need to sign into the nvidia account. It won't allow me, I don't know if I have an account or do I if I use an email address on the nvidia. I'm just so confused.

You buying batteries in Dealz? There have been issues with those even though they are decent reputable brand

I think the better half gets them in super valu!

Like we last put some in the day after Xmas, now getting a critically low message again.

    Hi,

I'm.looking to buy one of these and can't decide between the NVIDIA SHIELD TV PRO 4K Media Streaming Device - 16 GB and the NVIDIA SHIELD TV 4K Media Streaming Device - 8 GB.. What is tbe advantage of paying the extra for the Pro version?

I had similar issue with cheaper batteries. They weren't going dead as quick as yours but were lasting no length.
Buy duracell and the difference will be huge.

I have the Pro version but not sure its worth the extra £50 tbh.
I suppose it all depends what you use it for, mine is only used for streaming(Netflix,Prime etc) and IPTV.

I went for the Tube earlier this year and I can't fault it. I had no intention of using it for gaming or as a Plex server or any of that stuff. I wanted it as a fancy streaming device as it has done that with aplomb. I did expand the storage but I've rarely use that. I found this Guardian review helpful when deciding which one to get: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2020/feb/26/nvidia-shield-tv-review-the-best-android-tv-box-with-brilliant-ai-upscaling

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭Gooey Looey

The main differences between the tube and the pro is Plex server and gaming. It has less ram and a 32 bit processor. If you've no intention of using any of the gaming features of the Shield, Android games, Geforce now, Nvidia Gamestream or emulators the tube will be fine for you.

Probably the only piece of technology I have that I would immediately replace without any hesitation whatsoever should it stop working etc, 4 years and going strong, and used every single day without fail.

Yeah it's a great piece of kit, but has started giving me a bit of trouble lately. Sometimes Netflix just gets stuck at the loading phase (no video, but audio is playing). Likewise something similar for Youtube, and requires a restarting the device to fix. But rock solid beyond that.

A factory reset is worth trying when you have time to set it to again from scratch

I had been following this thread for a good while and throwing my eyes up at people suggesting the Shield figuring it was complete overkill .

Then I had extra cash due to the fact my kids are grown up and working and giving me cash for Birthday/xmas so I splashed out .

Lets just say , I get it know .

I get the very same thing. I have to reboot to fix.

Not a big issue, a slight annoyance.

Happens to me as well with both of these apps. TBH, I don't think it's any harm to reboot the Shield anyway.....along with the router.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,813 ✭✭✭clintondaly

I turn off the Shield and Router about once a week, not a reboot but power removed for about 2 mins.If you do a quick reboot or restart it can retain any issues that were there, where as the power off for 2 mins allows the devices to clear their memories correctly and ensure the errors are cleared.

It also helps with the general WIFI in the house when the router is done this way if people have 2 networks and lots of devices(i have 28 Wifi devices in the house) as the IP addresses start to pile up etc.Its like a Spring clean once a week

Only real annoying issue I have is when my smallie finishes with his PS4 the shield goes into hibernate mode, a nd will only start after physically unplugging it

Is there a setting in developer option to prevent that ?

Saw on Reddit and think it's something I can get behind..

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08FMKTZY8/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A3PZDZPOPY874V&psc=1

My Shield remote falls onto a hardwood floor and into our pieces (backing and batteries fly) probably at least once a week.

    Morning all.

    My head is fried.
If I watch Netflix/Disney/Prime on my Shield Pro, I get 5.1 through my amp.
If I watch a movie from the hdd that’s plugged into the Shield, I only get stereo. From what I can tell, I tried every option there is, but it doesn’t make any sense.

    Currently I have Shield->sync box->tv.
The tv then outputs PCM to my Onkyo amp.

Like I said, the apps on the Shield allow 5.1 on the amp.
My SkyQ box, also routed through the sync box, allows 5.1.
The apps on the tv give 5.1 on the amp.
And when I plug the hdd straight into the tv, I get 5.1.

But not the hdd through the Shield.

    I’m using Kodi btw.

So based on what you're saying
The amp will take 5.1, the files have 5.1 and the shield will give out 5.1 from certain apps.

Would guess your issue is with Kodi, maybe try VLC to play the files, if it pumps out 5.1, we know the issue is Kodi. At that point you need to decide if you want to use kodi which means spending time troubleshooting it or are you happy with another app that will just work.
Would personally go for Plex over Kodi

Enable passthrough in kodi audio settings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,922 ✭✭✭Soarer

    Thanks guys.

@batistuta9. It’s already enabled. Also tried it without being enabled.

@swampy. I’ve no preference to what I use, so will try VLC.
I only bought the Shield because I bought the sync box and strip light. I was perfectly happy with the hdd plugged into the telly. But that configuration now would bypass the strip light.
I’ve genuinely no idea of what the shield is capable of.

    Yeah

Optical doesn't carry very many formats, it doesn't support Dolby digital + that Netflix uses or DTS HD or any other of the new lossy formats. You need to tweak your Kodi passthrough settings so that the formats not supported get transcoded by Kodi to normal Dolby digital and DTS. I'll pm you a pic of my settings later I'm just about to head out for a run.

Your TV is telling the other apps what codecs it supports as it's optical out and the apps are sending what it knows your TV supports

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,922 ✭✭✭Soarer

    Right.
Have tried Kodi, Plex and VLC. All the same.
Have swapped from one USB port to the other, still the same.

I don't think it's the sync box as all the apps on the SkyQ box give me "surround sound".

I don't think optical is the issue. It's never given me an issue before, and it's still not giving me an issues now, apart from HDD thru Nvidia shield.
HDD directly thru tv is still spot on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭Gooey Looey

It's 100% a Kodi passthrough setting issue, I'll get you a pic now. The TV is smart enough to know what codecs it supports and downmixes to go out through optical. The apps like Netflix don't do passthrough, they query the TV for the codecs it supports. Kodi is different, it supports passthrough as well as hdmi
