Wasn’t at that game but heard it was a fiery low enough quality afffair. Wouldn’t worry about the result too much especially with the fitzgibbon starting. Last year was our rebuilding year so we should be much better this year. One of the worries I have is that the younger lads coming through arnt nailing down a starting a place. Hopefully Buckley isn’t out for the year. If lawor can nail down a position and look solid at FB and Delaney at CB it could really help our attacking play with Walsh and bucko on the wings. Would have liked to see deegan kept in the corner considering that’s where he will proberly play for the year but you have to try things out I spose. Leahy Donnelly Cleere really need to drive on this year and step up as they’ve been involved long enough, Kevin kelly and alyward need to regain form. If hogan can return to his best it will be a big help with wally and tj, there 3/6 forwards who have good understanding of the game and good in the air. Going to be tough but looking forward to the league, hopefully lads are given a fair chance although I think I’ve seen enough of Lennon, o shea and Conor Martin.

Is o Shea still there ? I thought he was gone after the championship match against Wexford last year . Agree with your post

he was a sub last sunday.players like him have being panel members 4 or 5 years and still not making the 15 it nost be hard to keep coming back.At least tommy walsh is being tried he looked good the other day apart from one or two mistakes but i think we're better off going down that road.

i agree i thought he hurled well and id like to see him start against cork corner back with murphy.id like to see maher come back into mf with fogarty but the few changes that will come will most likely come in attck. Mossy was good the other day and can never be faultèd for effort.Wally and hogan should hopefully start.blanchfield wont miss any league and hopefully kevin kelly had no affects from the other day and cody was only easing him back into things cause i know he holds him in high regard.
i know we've 11 or 12 lads with fitzgibbon and im sure most counties are the same so these lads will probably be used sparingly.

Cody was talking about that to day the Irish independent had an interview he gave to kilkenny community radio on sunday, the amount of games is scandalous on heavy pitches as he said himself all counties have the same problems but burnout is a serious issue. The gaa have seem to have lost respect for the club I don't know about other people but that is the way I think. Hopefully we wont have a bad spring weather wise.

I think most people would agree with that. And then you have an army of players on the other hand doing nothing in the height of summer. There's no easy solutions, but it's hard to imagine a worse set up than the current calendar.

I personally don't think the GAA have lost respect for the club, they've just created a monster with the intercounty game that they can't control. The whole thing just needs a major overhaul.

Scrap the preseason competitions and the league, make the provincial championships the preseason comps and turn the championship into an open draw league/championship of 12 teams and work it like the Kilkenny club league/championship.

    Job done.

    Yeah I agree fully.
Way too many matches.walsh cup has to go. Cody is usually not one to give out about structures or make excuses but he is very critical of the current structure.
With a panel of near 50 lads it is reduced to almost 30 for Jan and Feb with the 7 ballyhale lads and 12 Fitzgibbon players. This is a great chance for squad players to step up and make an impression. Hopefully the panel is big enough to facilitate all players and competitions without burn out being an issue.

Do you think the munster council will let there championship go ,I doubt it when they wouldn't let one of there counties play there home matches in a leinster county while there pitch is been re developed.

best of luck to tj who has being nominated as captain for kilkenny this year.

I wouldnt scrap the league or turn provincial competitions into pre season games. Simply dont have tournaments for pre season competitions. Let counties just play friendlies. Start inter county league in March play 2 rounds in March, April, May, June with no finals and then have a knock out provincial cup with 1/2 round in each May and June then an all ireland knock out cup in July and August. That would be 14/15 games max and finished early

Why would they or should they? It would be crazy for them and the counties to do so.

serious hurler is right.Cograts to them yesterday and hard luck to our representatives. It has being a great year for ballycallan and it was always going to be difficult yesterday but i think gbc will hold their own at senior level. They have a few injured lads to get back and have some very good young talent.

Type of hurler that we in Kilkenny are crying out for but are just not there at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,292 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

Richie Leahy is that type of player. Not as good as Fitzgibbon right now but give him a chance

I hope your right. He is a very skillful player alright

Leahy has incredible potential, he should be left to hurl midfield and settle in there over the league. Last year he was starting, taken off, wing forward, midfield, an impact sub. Let the lad settle in like Cork have done with their young stars

A good win for our Senior camogie team yesterday Vs Clare in Callan.
Very cold day, with a long grass made for a poor enough game, but also considering those two factors and the fact that it was the first game of the League, 1-09 to 0-07 , its a case of "job done'

What a load of bullsh!T and that kind of personal talk and digs at any player on a public forum really annoys me. Anyone who knows hurling will know that TJ's preparation and commitment to the sport is second to none. At the end of the day it an amateur sport with a professional training approach but players are entitled to a life outside of GAA so any other interests or 'distractions' that you refer to are completely irrelevant.

    Jealous remark.

TJ is an outstanding individual and hurler, fair play to him for making money out of the GAA and his profile, TJ does the business and the field so more power to him.

In some instances i do agree that some players are not doing the business on the field and are using there profile and other players who got them that far as a marketing tool rather than getting back to basics and back to the hurlers they can be. Nearly always to late tho

  • Registered Users Posts: 282 ✭✭sitkaspruce

TJ is an outstanding hurler who takes pride in the jersey and the mindset of a professional in an amateur game.

The training / life balance can be tough enough on our county stars without running their own business and guiding a club to an all ireland semi final. Like anyone - it can be a lot to burden but I have every confidence in TJ doing the business when required.

The distractions I mentioned are of rushing TJ back for the latter stages of the league when he should be afforded the time to ensure he is 100% ready for hopefully a long summer campaign in the black and amber.

Group two teams will all be pretty happy with that draw you'd have to say. As a boro fan I know I am. Group one will be great craic for neutrals.

They were 15 on 15. Played very deep though in the second half as Clare got on top , and were using the wind . Katie Power was very isolated when she came on, as the other 2 forwards dropped deep to cover the half forwards, who were also dropping back.

Davinia Tobin was outstanding - covered every inch of the pitch, great interceptions and delivered great ball into the half forward line.
Denise Gaule drove on the team, she really is the heartbeat of the team on the pitch. Tireless!
Danielle Morrissey was very lively, and gave the Clare defence a tough time - Scored 3 (?) points I think.

For Clare , Eimear Kelly really stood out, fine hurler.!

Next fixture - Sat 26th Vs Dublin in Callan @2.00
