Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Big convection moving inland here in Kerry this evening, some showers showing up on radar but dry here all evening. Small chance of a bit of thunder ( nothing like over on the continent though :D )

    VALID 06:00 UTC Sat 11 Aug 2018 - 05:59 UTC Sun 12 Aug 2018

    ISSUED 10:06 UTC Sat 11 Aug 2018

    ISSUED BY: Chris/Dan

UPDATE 10:06 UTC Cold front provides the focus for embedded mid-level instability release as strong upper forcing approaches from the SW, on the forward side of the main upper trough. While instability is fairly weak and profiles rather saturated, forcing may be sufficient to produce some sporadic lightning during Saturday night as the cold front continues to slide NE from the Celtic Sea into SW England and Wales; a low-end SLGT has been introduced to cover this potential

A transient ridge of higher pressure will keep most of Britain dry through Saturday, however a warm front and following warm sector will overspread Ireland and southwestern parts of Britain by Saturday evening and overnight. Rain and the potential of some embedded elevated convection will bring a low end risk of a few lightning strikes as the cold front moves in during the early morning hours of Sunday. At this stage the risk of lightning seems to be only around 10%.

Any thunderstorms for Cork this evening?

    :)

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,072 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Not really seeing much chance of thunderstorms. Maybe a low chance of a couple of rumbles in the SE in the next couple of hours.

Troughs and cold pool of air aloft aiding convection leading to some heavy showers tomorrow. Possible for some sporadic thundery showers, more so in Northern counties.

Sferics showing up on the new Met.ie rainfall radar mainly in the West.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,072 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Some rain of a convective nature tomorrow, perhaps a low chance of the odd rumble in the W , NW . N and and will be watching on the outside chance of a few rumbles on the E coast with the passage of a trough later in the afternoon.

Chance of heavy showers and thunderstorms increases on Fri , more so for Northern counties and perhaps some chance in the E also later.

EDIT: Met Eireann mentioning the risk of hail also so some big convection.

Some downpour in city centre now..

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,072 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Big showers but just a few weakly electrified and only a few sferics detected today. Tomorrow has a higher risk of thunderstorms mainly in Ulster and Leinster.

A scatter of sferics showing up already. Thunderstorms best chance of forming in Northern counties today.

Apologies, I didn't realise you were a passenger in a LHD vehicle when you took the photo. Looking at the reflection, it appears that you are sitting on the right hand side of the vehicle and in the front but silly me never thought to think that not every vehicle on the road is RHD :o

Record of sferics for today. Must have a look and try and work out why thunderstorms did not fire up in Northern counties.

That storm passed right over my parents house near Kill Village just as I arrived from the West. Most epic I;ve seen in years with large hail and multiple lighting strikes for a good hour. Alot of trees and shrubs locally got stripped of leaves:eek:
