Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Irish Farmer's Journal gets rather excited about how "June had the highest temperature recorded so far in 2015"

What a surprising turn of events!

If there is another thread dealing with this surrealism then I half-heartedly apologise for bringing it up here :P

All I know is that is fecking humid

Now a message for all those complaining about the "terrible" June :)

    The Examiner: http://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/last-month-was-warmest-june-for-19-years-684766.html

Now while it was extremely dry and sunny in Dublin I didn't realise it was so hot!

    That is indeed "surprising"

Addendum: Even odder the Met Eireann summary says of June "Extremely dry in parts, cool overall"

Absolutely disgraceful reporting. How on earth do they get away with spewing out this ill researched, nugatory junk?

This chart shows the IMT temperature anomaly for June since 2007. It is based on the mean of 11 stations around the country so a good representation for a national overview. All data is courtesy of Met Eireann.

    354031.PNG

It was, overall, the coolest June since 2012. It was cooler than June last year even and a long way off the warmth of June 2010, which was the warmest within the short period.

I really despair at the quality of reporting in the so called 'quality' Irish media. It's all about the story now - too hell with any notion of calibre and substance. :(

That pressure spike I've been predicting for ~10th July still looks like it's on. The ECM and GFS are diverging somewhat, with the ECM showing a far more favourable potential situation, but all the same it's looking pretty good. Will post some charts later.

I realise that FI is FI, but I'm a firm believe in starting to believe in it a little more then it persistently shows similar charts over the course of many runs. So here's hoping. :D

Very breezy here actually the breeze has been a feature of the summer in these parts so far.

Few clouds here now in NCD and a bit of a fresh breeze starting up. Nice for me because I just can't abide by humid conditions.

Agreed and its on everything not just weather
    That said
Ironically it was one of the warmer ones in East Wicklow #imby and there were probably other areas around the country with local variations from a broader picture
Sat 20th june was in my top 5 temps in the last decade for example

not a very nice chart for the time of year, it looks like the heatwave in western Europe will be well and truly over.

12 mm so far today which means I've had more rain in a few hours than in a month. :)
(14 mm fell at Dublin Airport in June but most of that was during the first few days of the month and practically nothing for the rest of the month)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,995 ✭✭✭Schadenfreudia

Yep, 11.6mm in a few hours this morning - drought ends. Now sunny 20C.

A return to? Never seen it in the first place!

Also please don't be so negative, this destroyed the forums last winter by the amount of negative joeys and please don't do it again. There's almost 2months left in a 3 month season and imo you can never say it was a **** summer till its over :)

Hope you take my comments in the friendly manner intended.

Tipping down and I actually feel a bit cold!

We were never going to get three good summers in a row.

Brightening up in the north east after some drizzly bit of rain earlier, really didn't get the heavy rain that we looked to be getting on the radar charts

None of you have given any indication of your locations so your posts are a bit pointless. Personally in Bray Im sunburnt, sleeping with the windows wide open, all the grass is dead or dying, Bray Head like a tinderbox waiting for some kids to light it. That will be all changed after the pouring rain this morning though.

Same in Naas, has been a pretty good summer so far imo

Grass really needs that rain at this stage

Same here in North Meath, most days have been dry over the last couple of months, and the most rain we got was drizzly stuff that lasted 10mins at most, grass needs the rain but i'm not complaining, as im pretty sure the grass will get its rain in the winter

May here was awfull, more like a mild January, however since about June 5th the weather here was very good, no rain to speak off till yesterday and generally temps in the 19-24C range. Today is cool and damp tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,641 ✭✭✭✭fits

Generally, in the South East of the country its been great, in the north and west less so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,227 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Very warm in Shannon ATM despite the overcast skies and wind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,483 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Was shopping in Nutgrove earlier which is a few more km inland compared to here. The sun was coming out and the car thermometer said 22C and it felt it outside. Back home (about 1km from the sea) and its 16C and drizzly, quite a contrast for such a short distance.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Unfortunately I might have to agree with this, there are some very ugly 2007-12 type charts on show. A lot are showing Greenland blocking and a weak Azores. I would love to be 100% wrong but the lack of posts in this thread speaks for itself.
If we are stuck in this mobile Atlantic muck by mid month then I would put my money on the summer being over.
Believe it or not but I always believed that there is some truth in the St Swithin's Day legend, not the 40 days and nights stuff but whatever pattern prevails in mid July will be with us until late August at least.

Let's look on the bright side - though the wonderful drought is well and truly over, this is the 12th consecutive day with a max temp over 20C. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 282 ✭✭twinkletoes

"FURTHER OUTLOOK ... Warmer again by end of the week, highs could be into low 20s or even mid 20s at times by the weekend of 11th-12th. This warmer regime appears fairly robust and any slight cooling mid-month may then revert to warmer temperatures. So, if that comes to pass, this coming wet spell will prove to be very useful to many despite the inclement conditions for a few days.."

Surely there's hope with MTs forcast this morning? I was delighted when I read this anyway?!:)

I took a drive through town a few minutes ago, many houses have fires lit! (Kilrush-West Clare)

Max temp of 14.6c here, and that was reached at 00.05 last night. Hovered between 13 & 14c all day.

I don't see that in todays forecast I just copied what he posted this morning, where did you get that one

FURTHER OUTLOOK ... Generally somewhat unsettled but with some sunshine most
days as well as passing showers next week, temperatures near normal in the 18-21
    C range daytime hours.

Feeling unpleasantly cool with light to moderate drizzle in the Limerick area. Shannon Airport reporting temperature of 13 or 14c. No wonder there are fires lit. I am wearing a jumper this evening for the first time in about two weeks.

I know that's cold for summer but I find it amazing that people light fires at 14c. I know I live in southern England, but it can't be that much warmer here. I don't have a fire unless it's approaching 0c and rarely put the heating on above 11-12c.

    Eskimo blood? :)

I threw a log in the afternoon at a damp windy 14C; tonight it's 13.5C - not so bad.

We tolerate/expect much lower temperatures at night in bed!

Why else would 18C be a hot sticky sleepless night for so many while 18C in mid-afternoon in mid-July is pretty miserable?

It maxed at just under 24C today in London and the coldest day in the past two weeks still reached 22C..

14C with wind, mist and drizzle is something you'd expect in December
