Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No need to break them in

So would you be confident enough to race with them after a couple of small runs

To be honest I'm only racing shorter distances these day 10k and less. But they feel so good I don't see any issues using them box fresh on longer races

What's the opinion on whether a new pair or runners would be needed for DCM?

Bought Glycerin 17 in July but have 350k on them (and I believe they are good for 700k(?) .. But with the final push on training for DCM I'm wondering would I need to buy a fresh pair before (open to suggestions on what) or are they typically solid up until that recommendation and then start breaking down.

I'll need all the help I can get so if I need new shoes, no issue getting them as the first few runs are always so comfortable with them.

A fresh pair of runners is generally a good idea for a marathon. You generally want the runners to be not worn out and provide plenty of support. Older runners might have weak points that could become a problem at mile 22 or whatever. If you like the Glycerins, then get another pair. Do a long run in them before the marathon, and then enjoy the as-good-as-new runner smell on the day as a treat ;)

Have had the Zoom Fly 3 for a couple of weeks now, about 110 miles or so in them. Even tho they are the cheaper version of the NEXT%, you can still feel that plate working in the midsole. Although since starting with them, I have picked up a couple of niggles (not sure if these are contributing!!)

The sole of my left foot is really sore after a run, bruised like feeling almost. My ITB is acting up again and flaring up on the long runs since starting with these.

Other than that, I find them brilliant, I have very narrow feet and find them a great fit.

I've had the same issue as well, ball of my feet are very sore after a long run.Great for the short stuff but I'll be going back to the reliable Pegasus Turbo's for the marathon

I have the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next%- only got them last month and ran my first event yesterday- 20miler. Ran a few 10-15 milers in the last month. Bar a pair of Nike track spikes they are the first Nike running shoe I have ever bought.

I know mentally there is always an initial bounce when you get new runners but I am defo putting in faster times without noticing it. I have come off runs shocked at the quickness of the KMs and not even feeling it.

During the 20 miles event yesterday I did not get any cramps and the feet felt very fresh and feel quite good today- there was no soreness or even hint of the general soreness you get 19-20 miles in.

I ran the same event 2 years ago with more training behind me and I was in pieces at the end. Yesterday I may as well have ran a cheeky 10k. Even my buddy who I met at the line remarked that I seemed unusually fresh. I put down the last 2 miles in less than 14 minutes which is quick for me and didn't even feel it. Perhaps it was just a good day.

The shoes defo had way more to give if I kept going and I have two marathons lined up before the end of the year.

In fact as ridiculous as it sounds I am going too fast sometimes but they defo propel you forward.

Other than that I use On Cloudflow- on 3rd pair and love them. The Hoka Clifton 5 were disappointing compared to the Clifton 4 I had last year.

I'm a big fan of the Cloudflow also. Is the sizing the same for Nike as for the Cloudflow? What's the Nike equivelant of the Cloudflow? Curious to try a pair of Nike given how popular they've become. Cheers.

The Nike Structure range has more cushioning if thats what you are looking for. Previous versions were very good but Nike Zoom Structure 22 feels very heavy. Not a fan at all

Checked there - no half sizes unfortunately :(

I'd recommend registering with the Nike website - they have regular-ish flash sales and you get 20% off during your birthday month.

Or the Nike shop in Kildare Village ;)

This had occurred to me alright Dom, think you've run in both? Assume the boston are fully neutral whilst the tempo are neutral-ish? What do you make of the current Bostons?

Just picked up a pair of 8's, for me probably their best update.
The Boston has mild stability, weighs 250 grams for my size 10's, fit true to size, have a nice seamless upper now with the stripes printed on rather than the traditional stitched on.
Personally I think it's a classic, great all-rounder, one to throw in the bag for work travel or hols.

I'm pacing the half on Saturday, will wear these if you want to take a look?

Thanks for that, I nearly bought a pair of rincons last night with the plan to use them for Dublin, let us know what you think about the carbon X, the appeal with the rincon was the cushioning and they are very light

I have done 3 runs in the Carbon X,
    8 Miles with intervals (3x600m)
    12 Miles Steady
    9 Miles with intervals (5x1k)

So after 30 miles they feel Good and have softened a bit from first run. They are very comfortable and fit really well(Half size bigger than Nike).
What has surprised me is the transition during ground contact from heal to toe. I can t fault the shoe yet, But i still have to see how they feel after my next 20 miler and looking forward to using them for DCM.

Hard to turn them down at that price tbh - will be my 3rd pair of Pegasus.

Just broke out my latest ones last weekend in Charleville ahead of the DCM so probably won't run in these until Spring/Summer (have a few other shoes in rotation as well :D)

I read a review on one of the shoe review sites (possibly runningshoeguru but I can't remember) that suggested the plate really only offers benefits at paces at or below 6:50/7:00 mins per mile. You have to be able to impart a certain force to activate the spring.

Thanks for that! I think I remember u mentioning something like this before actually.

So at slower paces, the plate may be restricing your foot/sole from 'flexing' properly perhaps?

You could get trail running shoes like Salomon speed cross etc but I really wouldn’t... you don’t actually need waterproofing in shoes, just ensure you are wearing good socks and your all set.

There's no point. Rain will get in, guaranteed. Having waterproof runners just means it can't get out again, and you've to do the rest of your rain with water sloshing around in your shoes

I have thousands and thousands of miles of experience running with waterproof shoes. They can and often do make a huge difference. To be really effective you do need a system, not just the shoes (running gaiters make a big difference if the shoes are going into water above ankle level. Built in gaiters are more effective again), but for some conditions the shoes on their own will be more than enough to make a significant notable difference.

I've never come across water proof road shoes, but there are plenty of waterproof trail shoes. I wouldn't be too worried about waterproof road shoes for anything under two or three hours anyway.

There are a few different technologies available as well. Goretex is the oldest and by far the most common (usually implemented as a layer within the shoe). I'm sponsored by Columbia, so get to wear any of their shoes I choose. They have what I consider to be the best waterproof system, which is Outdry Extreme (implemented as an outer layer, keeping the whole shoe dry). But as I say, I'm sponsored by them, so look up these things yourself to learn the options.

I do plenty of mixed terrain running, so often run on roads in trail shoes. They're fine. No real problem once their not too off-road style. But I wouldn't be doing any road only racing, or even training, in them unless the weather was apocalyptic and I was going to be out for a looooong time.

After some super customer support from Saucony when I had some trouble breaking in a pair of Liberty ISO (I was getting terrible hot spots under the balls of both feet after only a couple of miles every time I ran in them) I have been offered a new pair of runners from their range. I've chosen the Omni ISO 2. Does anyone here have any experience with these?

I’ve been running on Sauconys for a while as Brooks messed with the Glycerine and I went from loving them to not liking them at all.
Run in the ISO Ride now for long runs.

I see lots of people running in 4% and Next%. I was thinking if they are that much of an advantage is it a fair playing field to not run in them?

Anyway, heard a whisper that Saucony might be bringing out an alternative to the Nike. Has anyone heard similar?

Been breaking in my first pair of Adios 4. An absolutely amazing shoe for me, fits true to size, know others have had issues there. Had been using the Mizuno hitogami for a good few years but it got killed off. Had issues with the Sonic, so called replacement

It makes me curious about their other takumi variants of flats for say 5k, as the adios feels like a decent amount of shoe, feel like I could do a fair amount of easy volume in the adios, 90 mins easy long run at least.

In a similar boat to yourself - bought a pair of Adios 4 a few weeks back (picked up a pair for €90 on probikekit) and have been very slowly breaking them in. A little snug fit but will give them a proper go for a 26k this weekend before making the decision to go with them or stick with the old reliable Wave Riders for the DCM.

Loving the sleek profile of them though and they've felt pretty fast on some of the shorter tempo runs I've done to date on them anyway. Just couldn't contemplate spending the €185 extra for a pair of the Vaporflys; think the Adios a more than adequate alternative based on experience to date.

I wore the Nike Vapourfly 4% today for the 1st time.
I managed 4 individual miles under 6 minutes, I have never ran that fast before.
As Party guinness said in a previous post you do a get an initial bounce in new trainers.

Slight downside a bit of a burn on the sole of one foot.

Have started running a small bit lately and would like to keep it up. Currently doing couch25k again but this time I want to progress onto 10k and maybe even a 1/2 marathon in 2020. Looking to get myself a Christmas present of runners. What's my best option for <€100. Slow runner 7mins/km

Have found the following that I like the look of
    SAUCONY FREEDOM ISO 2 - 70euro
    Mizuno Wave Sonic 2 - 72 euro
    Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 - 76euro
    Mizuno Wave Shadow 2 - 84 euro
    Saucony Liberty ISO - 84euro
    Nike Epic React FlyKnit 2 - 90euro
    Mizuno Waveknit R2- 95euro

Any thoughts on the above or suggestions.
