Often forgotten is right as I can’t remember when I’ve seen that match last.

It's the feud with the Austin 3:16 beeper/pager and the Intercontinental Title getting yeeted off the bridge.

Ahhh yes. God remember when fans popped over things being thrown off a bridge.

I really don’t get the hype surrounding them tbh. There’s nothing special about them. Which j suppose is part of their gimmick. A throwback team in the vein of the Brainbusters? Not for me

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Sasha drop it this Friday.

Watched the "Behind the Mat" documentary from 1999 yesterday for the first time (Jack the Snake is NOT a nice guy). That ringside footage of Foley's kids during the I Quit Match was one of the most insane things I have ever seen.

My question is though: The Rock was wearing trousers during that match, when did he switch to the more recognisable ring attire, ie the black brahma bull pants? I vaguely remember him in the former, but don't really remember that aforementioned match at all, despite its subsequent infamy.

I think the story goes that The Rock wore tracksuits for a period to hide a surgery he had gotten done on his chest.

Correct. The Rock got liposuction on his chest.

Popping on a headlock or lockup. Younger fans who don’t remember those days missed out.

Watched the hogan rock match there the other night. It's actually incredible how into it the fans are. Almost as much as a national stadium crowd for Devlin over Walter after 12 pints.

He wasn’t a nice guy. Thankfully he’s got over his demons and as far as we know is on the straight and narrow. Jake the snakes dad(I think that scene of the two of them being awkward is in BTM) was a asshole.

Have been watching a lot of older stuff on the network and rewatching a lot of older Rock and Austin stuff. Personally, when I think back on these two, it’s mainly “moments” I remember rather than matches ( I know they’ve both have numerous great matches but we’re mainly so over Cos of their mic skills) so I’m wondering, what are your top Austin and/or Rock matches? I don’t mean gaisnt each other necessarily but some of their matches are classics

Their Wrestlemania 17 match was my favorite of the Mania series.

    Against other wrestlers though.
The Rock vs Mankind I Quit Match
The Rock vs Triple H Backlash 2000
The Rock vs Kurt Angle vs The Undertaker Vengeance 2002

Stone Cold vs Chris Benoit Smackdown, May 31st 2001
Stone Cold vs Bret Hart Wrestlemania 13
Stone Cold vs Triple H 3 Stages of Hell Match No Way Out 2001

I watched something on youtube yesterday that made me go back and watch Bret vs the 123 kid and damn what a great match it was and it still holds up with simple brilliant storytelling.

Reading up on Chyna there. Sad.
Estranged from her mother and father for many years. Really suffered from issues. Drugs and mental. Obviously did the porn thing. Then I heard she said she would never do porn again.

She was only 46 when she died in 2016. Accidental overdose of anti anxiety drugs, painkillers and alcohol it says. Messed up to think that if you compare 2000 (imo her biggest year in wrestling) and compared to how it all ended in 2016 it's quite a change.

Another sad aspect is that her manager became worried after Chyna didn't usually post to her social media accounts for several days.
Her brain was donated to science for CTE but could not be studied as it had decomposed.

Now there's a sad thing when you read that. Sure Chyna may have been a private person maybe taking days to respond to people. But it does kind of suggest she didn't have anyone. It was her manager only being alerted to no social media posts. Not a friend after no contact, even a significant other. Sad.

One of the most successful wrestlers of all time as she was OVER hugely in the attitude era. Thousands of fans cheering and chanting her name. But died alone.

These planned Wrestling biopocs sure do take a while to get off the ground

All talk of Pandemonium (Vince Mcmahon) has stopped and it seems the Netflix documentary has taken its place

The Hogan one seems to have got off the ground

Stone Cold is getting a Netflix one but more of a documentary

There was talk of a Von Erich biopic. For my personal preference I would love to see them put a few Lynryd Skynrd tracks in it (same era in Texas)

I remember years ago there was one planned on Chris Benoit but never materialised

I followed her on Twitter and in the couple of weeks before she died her tweets were very positive and upbeat and she seemed in a much better place than she had been for a while before that. That makes a sad situation even worse imo.

Kinda reminds me of Layne Staley, think it was his accountant who told his mother that no money had been withdrawn from his account in a while so he should be checked on.
For Chyna aparently she was found 3 days after she died. It's a depressing topic to think about but for any of us who live alone it would probably take around that long for someone to find us. I'm in close contact with my family but if something happened the following day wouldn't be noticed, 2nd day might be pass-remarkable, it likely would be the third day before any alarm was raised.
(I had a big slip in the shower recently which triggered a lot of such thoughts :pac: )

Social media cant be trusted. Everyone tries to paint the best picture of themselves but the reality behind it all is rarely so rosey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

Also a lot of them it’s their managers/team that are putting out tweets for them

Well clearly it was a better picture than was the reality but I was going on how it looked at the time and there were videos from her in which she seemed more more lucid and there. But yeah it was a very sad ending. Also, her Twitter account is still active which I don’t know how others feel but to me it’s weird when the account of a dead person is still active and carrying on as if nothing happened.

I don’t mean you are incorrect in what you say, I just mean you are only seeing what someone wants you to see or how they wish to be perceived when you are viewing their social media.

For example I have friends who like to paint a big happy family vibe on their feed when in reality they are far from happy. It’s unreal how fake social media is.

Armando Alejandro Estrada was money. Shame he never really got a decent run as a manager after they inexplicably split himself and Umaga

I dont understand WWEs view on managers. Heenan, Cornette, Fuji, Sherri, all added to most of their acts.

Why WWE ignore managers in this day and age is beyond me. Lana was perfect in her role as Rusevs mouthpiece, shes the only example of a real non wrestler being a manager I can think of in modern times main roster WWE besides Heyman.

When they do try managers, like Drake Maverick or Zelina Vega, they never keep them as just managers.

They have Stokely in NXT, a true talent, going to waste. I just dont see why they are reluctant to use managers

He was great, but he came in at a time when WWE had done away with managers. If he came in today he'd be in a better position I think.

I dont think WWE has changed that much.

Yes they had success with Ellering and AOP and to a lesser extent Bliss with Blake and Murphy, but over all they still dont use them properly.

Drake Maverick with AOP was nothing long term, Robert Stone is a joke and Bivens is wasted.

Vega and Andrade was the best example recently that worked but keep her ad as manager not a performer.

He did come back briefly to manage Tyson Kidd. That was actually quite a fun gimmick that Tyson Kidd had a new manager each week on WWE Superstars.

The reason from several people including Jim Cornette is that Vince thinks managers are “too southern” and managers in WWE for years simply walked the wrestlers to the ring. So seeing as Vince was born and raised in South Carolina, and seems hell bent on getting as far away from that past as possible, it’s not surprising he doesn’t like managers. But honestly if there was logic to what Vince McMahon thinks we should be worried.

Isn't a slight problem aswell is sometimes that it's the manager who goes over with the fans and not the wrestler so that in the long run it doesn't really help the wrestler.

Keep the wrestler with the manager and everyone wins.

Will there be a double Hall of Fame next year now I wonder inducting those named this year who didn't get in due to Covid and those who are due to go in in 2021.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,190 ✭✭✭ThePott

Maybe they could do a Hall of Fame at Wrestlemania for the 2020 Class and one at Summerslam for the 2021 Class.
God forbid if they do a double hall of fame, one is already too long.

Two years ago today we got that great ending to raw with Becky standing on the ring steps with blood on her face due to Nia Jax being the ring general she is. I mean it did work out in the end better for Becky but it’s a pretty cool moment.

It really was because I question if Becky was in their plans before that happened. Pure natural just like Bryan was.

I'd say Charlotte vs Ronda was the original plan.

It was but I don’t know how things would have went had she faced ronda and more then likely lost. I mean I didn’t at the time and still don’t have any confidence in WWE to have her lose and then get to the mania moment. It was a Daniel Bryan moment.

Could have had jealous Charlotte interfere in the match, Ronda stays undefeated, starts turning heel, gives becky something to do through to the rumble, then focus on Rousey post. Would have been brilliant actually. Ronda slowly turning naturally that the crowd desert her etc. Makes sense. Alas we got the convoluted line they took.
