With the Rumble over, we're on the Road to Wrestlemania now, so figure we can start this thread off.

First official match announced is Drew McIntyre vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE title.

Orton vs Edge looks likely, given the closing angle on Raw last night.

Charlotte Flair has a title opportunity too. Meltzer is reporting today that the plan is to have her challange
Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women's Championship.

Wonder if they'll drag Seth & Crew vs KO, Joe, Black and A.N. Other out till Mania; there's two PPVs left between then and now.

    Presumably Bray vs Roman?

Charlotte to appear at Takeover after Rhea defends against Bianca?

Think we will sadly see no progression in some storylines and they will go on too mania

Joe/kO+2 others vs Seth and the lads- possibly heel turn for one of Joe/KO here

    Lashley vs Rusev again

I'm going to Wrestlemania this year so I'm hoping that there's gonna be a top marquee match on. The title matches themselves should be good (Drew v Lesnar and The Fiend v Roman - probably) but I'm hoping that they'll put on a proper marquee match too. I would always assume that Taker would be involved somehow as well ... probably in that match I mentioned.

To be honest I'd hope Drew vs Lesner gets top billing like they used to do years ago , The crowning of a new star should get top billing rumble winner vs dominant champion

It would not surprise me If Brock retains

Reigns Bray will Main Event and Mania will end with Reigns standing tall. All hail the big dwag.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the bill for your trip looking like? I'm always interested to know the cost from this side of the pond because it's on the bucket list someday

Part of me thinks Takeover and the Rumble in January could be a decent budget option compared to the madness of Mania weekend

I'm actually going as the first part of my honeymoon, so it's a bit difficult to give an exact amount. The Wrestlemania Tickets were about €120 each. We're staying an a hotel that's about a 15 min walk from the Stadium for a couple of nights, so luckily enough we shouldn't be caught in what I can only imagine will be a travelling nightmare in and out (especially after the event).

First match god good no. Please let that be meltzer getting bad info. I don't want to see the second guy wrestler again.

Second match is interesting on a fantasy booking point of view it could possibly be an okay match but more likely it's not.

So it's official spear vs spear

Goldberg vs Roman Reigns for the universal title

Reigns basically handed the title shot ha

I think the only feud being properly built is Becky/Shayna.

Orton is doing the same thing every week on his own although the crowd are engaged with it.

    Charlotte/Rhea is very dull.

The rest? There are 5 Raws and Smackdowns left before Mania. We'll probably see John, Edge, Brock and Bill two times before then, once each on the go-homes which is going to leave Fiend, Randy, Drew and Roman twiddling their thumbs for the majority of the road to Mania.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,882 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

They should of had Bray come out as the firehouse funfly version and offer the challenge and over the few weeks hes fueding with the alter ego and promising 'Hes' not going to appear at mania' and then a ****ed up fiend faces attacks Cena at the go home mania show

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 15,129 Mod ✭✭✭✭Furious-Red

I hope Edge vs Orton is street fight as i think that would suit the feud at this stage.

I think there’s an ad that’s billing it as a No Holds Barred Match. Which makes sense.

They should do a multi man ladder match for the IC title and have Raw/Nxt guys in it too trying to take the title to there brand

    Braun
    Nakamura with Zayn
    Cesaro
    Sheamus
    Apollo Crews
    Shorty G
    Keith Lee
    Ricochet

It could be yes. The tampa bay city council(not the name but you get the point) are meeting tomorrow to presumably discuss the next steps in how they as a city will deal with the coronavirus. I think it's looking less and less likely that the event will happen as WWE would like it to happen.we may get an empty arena event. I could be wrong but given the way it seems to be going it's unlikely it will go ahead without any impact.

The NBA has been suspended until further notice after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for Covid.

If this thing is bringing the NBA to a halt I can't see how Mania, or even Raw and Smackdown, go ahead.

As the character of G-Man from the video game half life says "prefer for unforseen consequences" :p

The travel ban is both shocking and obvious at the same time. Of course after the result is in. What could effect mania from happening apart from the obvious Corona? That if a very large portion of the crowd couldn't GET there in the first place.

No way mania is going to happen now.

I was to be flying to Florida the week of Wrestlemania and was going to Takeover (although not bothering with WM itself).

I have family there and the situation on the ground is not dissimilar to here. She sent me pics and vids of stores she was at yesterday where there's nothing on the shelves because everyone is stockpiling. Her kids school is closed too.

My point is that yes you - and I - can fly to Florida. But there is no point. No chance Wrestlemania is going ahead and no chance you'd have a good holiday. It is actually bad luck Trump hasn't suspended flights from Ireland (yet) as it means we will lose out on the cost of flights!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,882 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Pity for all the overseas fans who meant to be heading over there

If I was going I'd try and do all the main events (Takeover, WM, Raw etc.) But you would have be saving for a few years at least

Yeah I’d be in a similar situation to you, I was meant to go over with my little brother to do the parks in Orlando too but chances are they’re going to shut up shop too. Raging but there’s nothing we can do. Unfortunately.

I have done a few Mania's already. With the cost of the ticket and length of the show, it's a bit of a chore at times. Honestly, once you have done one Mania live, you don't really need to go again.

If they were to drastically reduce the length of the show or spread it over two nights I would go again.

The Raw & Takeover are worth it though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,189 ✭✭✭ThePott

Yeah, echoing what people are saying here.
Meant to be going to Mania but the reality is I won't be going.
The travel ban doesn't include Ireland for now but I imagine that will change. Universal and Disney are closed and set to re-open in late March but who knows. Florida has an old population, I think it would be very reckless for Mania to go ahead at all.
Apparently the reason it hasn't been cancelled is that WWE are waiting for Tampa to call it off so they are eligible to collect insurance.

I'm a bit bummed but been preparing myself for the possibility over the last few weeks. Probably gonna be a good bit out of pocket but unfortunately that's life. Even if it were to go ahead at this point, I can't imagine travelling would be a good idea or that it would make for a very enjoyable trip.

WWE and the city of Tampa playing chicken with each other over Coronavirus decisions is a bunch of ridiculous horse**** and should be treated as such.

And that's strictly from a public health POV, not factoring in the repurcussions for fans & indie promoters from pressing pause.

Surely the Board of Directors could over rule Vince and just force his hand and call it off/postpone it? The idiocy of it all really.

No-one wants the PR hit as so many people have paid for travel and it'll hit the already tanking stock so badly.

It'll be cancelled eventually. Early June looks likely for the rearranged date.

Actually I'd guess it's insurance & compensation driven; if they cancel it vs. government ordering them to cancel it would most likely give different levels of payout for cost, lost earnings etc. with insurance and in relation to the contract (i.e. if either party cancels the contract there's most likely a penalty clause triggering; hence why neither side wants to be the one to cancel it while both knows it's not going ahead). Same with reporting to shareholders; if they cancel it vs. they were ordered to cancel it the second one gives way more leeway to blame away things "outside of their control".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

Yep it’s all insurance driven trying to limit the losses it’ll be cancelled in the next week one way or the other

I think this is gonna break even the WWE's extremely resilient "the show must go on" mentality. I can see Raw and Smackdown going off the air for a while.

What's happening is like something from a movie.
