Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    169 cases already in the Republic, 45 in the North (up to 15 March). I fully expect temperatures to rise further (and if they do, call a doctor!) but would request everyone pays attention to the mod warnings carried over from earlier threads and set out below. In particular please remain civil to each other

    I just have to vent my frustration here for a sec.

    My nephew has been waiting for heart surgery since this time last year. His surgery has been due to go ahead and has been cancelled on the day many times. My mother, drives four hours to look after their other kids each time the surgery has been scheduled. The surgery is due to happen this week.

    I just know that it's going to be cancelled and I've been begging my mother not to go up for fear one of them will give the virus to her. They're in a major, major hot-spot.

    I offered to go in her place, but she's so stubborn and my sister is just completely demented from worry so it's a fraught situation. I'm going to put my foot down. I'll set fire to the feckin house if it comes to it. That would potentially result in less collateral damage.

    I posted this last night but i think it was lost but is it not odd that only 20% on the princess cruise tested postive even though more than likely more than 80% to 90% should have been. It was rampant on it.

    I think the Republic of Ireland as a society are really taking this seriously overall. I just wish the idiots dictating policy to NI would change their approach as it will affect us here in the South. Maybe.
    A Restricted border for just commercial goods for a few days would waken them up a little

    Austria has banned gatherings of more than 5 people. This is a good idea and will help them slow the spread.

    It would be hard to police but we should all voluntarily commit to something similar in Ireland to help slow the spread and relieve pressure on health services.

    I have 2 worries

    Firstly I'm a 41 yr old male. Mild asthmatic but fit healthcare assistant in my local daycare centre. Living with my parents 75 and 81, no major health issues but not totally healty either those.

    Secondly my 10 year old daughter lives an hour away with her mom and I'm wondering is it safe to go and see her and then come home afterwards.

    Any constructive feedback or opinion on this is very welcome . can do without smart answers.

    I found this to be a very good overview of the US health system. Written by an Australian Doctor who moved there and was comparing and contrasting the two systems. Some of the comments at the end regarding the cost of medicines are eye-watering. The link to the previous blog page with the outline is a must also.

    Doing a clear out of house today + found Irish Times article from February 29th. That's only 2 weeks ago.

    Figures then for Italy was 655 confirmed cases + Spain was 25 cases .

    Holy F@@k look at them both now.
