Is anyone else thinking of applying to universities abroad? I'm looking at the US but can't decide where I want to go and even if I actually want to go. I'll need to start deciding soon though as applications take a while and you need to start them straight away at the start of sixth year.

What course are you thinking of going into? Going to the US for college would be quite expensive i'd say.

We've finished fifteen chapters of biology. That's what the other classes in the school have done too.

Thinking of applying to Scotland, were having a UCAS talk in school next week. I'm thinking of doing veterinary so it's more of a backup if I don't get UCD. I'd prefer to stay in a Ireland though

Is anyone getting to go to many of the talks from colleges etc?
We have at least somebody coming in every two weeks to talk about college to the sixth years, but when I asked to go to one of them ,I was told it was only for 6th years.
Surely it makes more sense to let the fifth years sort it out before they also have the stress of exams?

I'm not too sure what I want to do in college which is a problem as well it will probably be something in a business or arts direction so at the moment I'm mainly looking at arts colleges. Cost isnt really an issue so I'm not worrying about that.

I've it narrowed down to about 20 courses. Mostly science and engineering courses but I still have the likes of science teaching in UL on the list.

I'd love to do science teaching but because the employment prospects are so bad I think it might just be best for me to cull that idea :pac:

Haven't had a single one and don't think I've ever had any really in my whole time in school.

Our teachers dont really care about them. They just give us mickey mouse tests , where not much study is needed.

Our Easter tests are a big deal in our school, they're treated the same as our Christmas tests!
I had all my Easter tests over the last two days it was awful.....

My school has never done Easter exams it's only class tests and I only have one in French because we finished the topic.

Hey guys, I was just wondering are the fifth year summer exams important for anything or count towards anything. Like if u were to apply to colleges outside Ireland such as the UK, would they look and consider them.

I don't think so but I think they're important for yourself to see where you are at though in subjects but I don't think they're that important for colleges outside of Ireland. Hope it helps in a way.

I suppose the essay would depend on the title.

The amount of people from my year going to the Institute (Yeat's) is crazy. There was always one or two that had the (financial) means in years gone by but there's up on 10 or 11 leaving my year to go to Yeat's next year

The majority that are going however are messers, who have done next-to-nothing during the last 5 years.

I was always of the opinion that if you were a messer, who never cared about your grades, paying an extortionate amount of money to go to a grind's school isn't going to change that much.

And besides that, why would you put yourself through having to leave all your established social circles and having to live away from home for the sake of maybe 10 or 20 points more than what you would have got in your original school?

    Smh tbh fam

    Wasting money imo.
If they aren't working now, the fact that Mummy and Daddy have forked out thousands is not going to make them work. If they are already working, they're better off stay where they are.

How much study did ye do over the Easter holidays? I did nothing except listen to some Spanish podcasts. I'm feeling guilty now, I was supposed to study for the Irish oral but I couldn't be bothered since it's ordinary level.

I didn't do any study. I did most of the homework we were given. I really don't see why people would be studying when there are still 8 weeks of the year left so we've loads of time before summer exams.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭Manutd_4life

Like most people i guess, i planned on studying but ended up doing f all apart from some homework :p

But as mentioned, there is like 7/8 weeks which is plenty of time. Enough messing up and time to get the head down and start working.

The last term always feels excruciatingly the longest - especially with exam weeks and the longer days that are coming. :o

I did my home ec homework that's the only thing I got. I studied some English for the comparative and Sylvia Plath. I also studied French. That's all I did. This term will be painful and when it's over that means we have summer and then 6th year and I'm stressing haha it's just going too quick for me.

Yeah, I feel like 2 weeks ago we were in 4th year...

Did an hour or two of Chemistry because I was falling behind and did Physics homework, that was all.

There was barely any parties or nights out happening all through the year, maybe one or two. Last 8 weeks of school coming up and there's something on almost every Saturday night.

Must resist. Summer will be my respite. :D

Anybody else jobhunting for the summer? I've sent out 6 or 7 CVs and followed them all up but as of yet haven't found anything.

It's not even for the money (well, it's sorta for the money) it's just to have something to do. I find that I waste all my time if I have nothing to do. If I have responsibilities, I tend to appreciate my free time more.

I've been doing a good bit of study coming up to the summer exams, my meeting with my guidance councillor scared me into working ngl :(
We have a real examiner coming in to do an Irish oral with us which is terrifying!
I'm currently working part time, during weekends so trying to fit in study is pretty difficult but school is my priority, just won't have a social life the next few weeks ( other that I actually have one hahaha)
