How much have you covered in English so far? I was talking to a friend and she had numerous poets, all 3 comparatives and Hamlet done and dusted, and we're not even finished fifth year yet!

All my class has done is one poet (and like half way through a second..), Hamlet, and just finished out first comparative novel. We do an essay ever week too and have done a little work on comprehensions.

We've done 3 poets, a couple of essays and all of Hamlet. We don't do the comparative at all until next year!

My class have done 2 poets , Hamlet , a good few question B's , one mode of the comparative and we are doing another poet now :)

We've done 4/5 poets, in the middle of another one now, we've also done the comparative which we used Hamlet for, all three comparative modes are done. We've also been doing comprehensions and essays throughout the year. I think we're ahead of the other classes and using Hamlet as part of the comparative will mean we can get through our single text faster next year.

We've gotten Hamlet done, the three texts done and have gone over Boland and Durcan. Though we haven't done essays on the comparative study and my memory on the poets is close to zero :P

Has anyone any tips for Irish? I've been slacking of all year and am worried that its going to bring me done if I don't address it soon. My Christmas exam result was terrible compared to everything else and I can't fail it since that's akin to failing the Leaving Cert.

Are any of u guys doing the 5th Year summer school program in UCD??
I've looked at it online and I'm considering it as I'm unsure on what I want to do in college but I'm not sure if it will be worth it or not???
A friend recommended it to me, alot of the things I wanted (math, physics) are already fully booked so places seem in high demand.
I might check out their computer science workshop, the fees seem decent

Is anyone planning on going to Higher Options in September?
Our teacher said we've to buy tickets before summer.

What exactly is the Higher Options event?

If its what I think it is, its held in the RDS and is just a collection of stands various universities put up to advertise themselves and whatever courses they specialize in, I went last year and it was a huge waste I think. Too many people and the information offered was clearly in favour of their university over the others.

There was a lot of hype around town about this event last year but from what I've heard by some of my friends, they said it wasn't really beneficial because it was too crowded and it was near impossible to talk 1 on 1 to any representative at the stalls.

All they came out with were a s**t ton of brochures/flyers/prospectus etc

I'm not sure if i'll sign up for it....

If I'm going, it'll just be to get the day off school and go to Dublin. :D

The Higher Options is handy as it's a one stop shop for all the colleges, but it gets ridiculously overcrowded, to the point of being an unpleasant experience.

It would be much more useful if they ran the same thing on different dates in about six regional centres.

Are any of you as unprepared for summer exams as I am? Mine begin in 8 days and I haven't studied a tap. :( Got to kick myself into gear tomorrow.

Yaaas! Trying to cram the Irish history course, extremely difficult would not recommend. I have no excuse for doing bad in these exams though, most of my teachers have basically told us what exactly what's on each exam, just need to stuff it all into my brain :(
The week coming up to exams, why do teachers insist on piling on the homework, 2 essays due for during the week, a French oral, a aural, a bio test?!?!?

Yep got engineering and construction tests tomorrow. Haven't a clue. Sh1t

Only three of my teachers have actually told us what's coming up on the exam and I've been using that for my excuse for not having anything done. I'm going to have to knuckle down for the next week now and get some serious study done though.

I've done my orals and aurals for Irish and French and they went OK I suppose I could have done better in the orals but they're good practice for next year anyway at least.

I know, I'm the same. Telling your students that the whole course so far will be on the test, 1 week before the test...isn't a good idea.

Tests start this Friday, but it's only a small farce of a LCVP exam and Biology, so no biggie.

But I'm finishing up with Maths, English and Irish, all one after the other, next Wednesday. Really would love to have a friendly chat with the person who scheduled those 3 subjects in particular on the same day :pac:

Our 6th years graduated Tuesday, no prank or nothing. Arrived into school this morning to find that all the desks stored up the back of the school had been moved into the middle courtyardy place of the school. They also tried to frame our year for it. Have to admit though, it wasn't as good as last years prank

Lads were doing burnouts in the carparks with us as driving tractors in, it was so funny. No real prank though

Only one week of school left. The year has really flown and I'm not looking forward to next year hopefully the work I've put in this year will stand to me. Now I just need to get through these exams then I can enjoy the summer.

Is anyone else doing the state exam attendant thing? We got told last week if we got it and I'm after getting leaving cert we've no idea what the pay is like though.

I am doing it too! I think I've got Junior Certs. I was talking to some lads that did it last yet and they said there's different rates for each exam depending on the length of them..... They said it wasn't fantastic pay but enough considering you're just sitting there for most of it ha

Before summer? Usually our careers teacher organises tickets in Sept and we have to pay then.
Do you know where to buy them?
