    Hi folks,

Really appreciate all the info on here but I'm a total noob and struggling to wade through various queries and answers to find the exact info I'm looking for. So I'm apologising in advance if my queries are total novice and/ or have been answered previously.

    1) I have a cable wetek box from the recent group buys and am seriously struggling with tv headend on VM. Is there only a handful of FTA channels available?
I'm not trying to set up anything illegal.

    2) On tv headend I can see tv adaptors but despite hours and nights of work any mux I set up seem to fail. On the odd occasion I get channels in live tv on the wetek box they wont play and buffering stays at 0%. In services on tvheadend I might see something but my Signal % is always very, very low.
Could there be an issue with my cable signal strength or am I more likely doing something wrong in my setup? I'll include some of the log below.

    3) As I mentioned previously, I have a cable box. We've a satellite dish still mounted on our back wall from previous owner of the house. Would it be possible to swap out cable tuner in wetek box for a satellite one or would I need a totally new box? If so how much would new tuner cost.

Thanks in advance for any responses and cheers again to Aquos for all the group buys.

    Wikey

I'm not able to answer the cable or tvheadend specific questions but the tuners are swappable and you can buy them from wetek for ~€25

I had tvheadend set up but struggled with the oscam part. Have android theatre set up now and an andriod app called ostool which works.

Yes you are better to run kodi off openelec as openelec is a light weight linux os designed to only run kodi whereas android will have alot of other process running in backgroud eating up cpu and ram

You can backup your kodi install using the following method:
    http://www.koditips.com/how-to-backup-kodi-and-restore-on-another-device/

there are few other options but this is the one I use to copy by "build" to restore at later time or to family and friends machines.
note if restoring to family or friends machines you may need to remove thumbnails to reduce size, paid subscriptions addons/lists and compress as a zip file.

Probably a stupid question but if I back up kodi openelec, can I restore that to an android setting too?

Is this a fact that can be measured in some way, or just opinion? Would you actually be able to see some difference when running Kodi through android as opposed to OpenElec? I'm pretty familiar with Android, and I know most talk about freeing up RAM or killing background processes has no impact on actual user experience.

I only ask because I'm missing my basic Android apps way too much, so think I'm going to switch.

You'll have no issues unless you intend running a resource hogger build such as the beast or the like. It baffles me why people are intend on cluttering the f*** out of their kodi framework. A handful of apps is all you really need. I like you, prefer the Android side of it to be available (skype & casting as some examples) and the UI on the wetek build is sweet. It is only a 1GB/4GB box but I've experienced zero issues / lags with this setup.

Yes I have taken a backup from my raspberry pi2 and restored it (after some tweaks mentioned above) to windows 7 & 8 laptops, windows 10 desktop and an mxq android box without any issues.

It is a combination of opinion and some testing done over twitter by appnettv a few months back(they asked users for time from boot to launch kodi on different devices and openelec was well positioned).

As dodzy said if you are running builds then you are probably better off sticking with openelec as will give over some resources but if you use a minimal few addons and need the android apps then use that,

its pretty easy to flalh and reflash different OS's to these boxes so try one out for a while and then if you want something else try that.

Check your cpu and memory usage in Kodi on android and compare it to the same readings when running OpenElec, that will give you as close an reading as can be

Am not getting the option of Live TV on Kodi (running Openelec), have it enabled in Kodi settings and have checked the menu settings etc.

I must be missing something simple (am also missing one of the tuners in TvHeadend when I try to configure that).

Have set Kodi to open on LiveTv to see if it would and I get no TV channels showing there when it does come up.

    Any suggestions ??

My missing Tuner showed up when I restarted the box, still no LIVE TV option in Kodi and TvHeadend just seems to show an awful lot of the 'muxes' as pending so am not sure if it is scanning correctly or not. Have a load of services showing in TVheadend but don't know how to view them on the box.

Thanks for all that, was seriously thinking of going this route either way. Life is too short film tvheadend.

Is the outcome- range of channels and add-ons the same?

In services click on the Map All tab above and then you tick "Include encrypted services and Create tags" boxes and then click Map,

Once thats done, should only take a few mins to map then close that window and your Live TV should show up,you may need to go into the Live TV section of Kodi/openelec and clear the PVR database I think its called

that user name and password is for SSH connections via putty etc, you could also use filezilla which might be more user friendly IP address port 22 connection type ssh though I think you should be connecting to the samba share (open elec settings - services i think) login for that is openelec openelec

I'll try mine in a bit to test that myself.

EDIT: Oh wait WinSCP should also do the job

Checked on mind make sure samba or ssh is enabled in open elec setting and use the correct login (as above) depending on what you are doing. In my experience if the files are any way big it's fast to copy over using a usb drive.

If samba is turned on in your Openelec then just open Windows file explorer and click on the address bar at the top then type \\your wetek ip address

I have installed a .tar backup file and went through the reboot process but after that i just arrive back at the Kodi main page so it doesnt appear like anything has changed.

Anyone know what I need to do next?

I'm not 100% on this myself, I was under the impression (rightly or wrongly) that the stuff that matters is in the userdata folder, what you need to do is open the tar file (use winrar on pc) and you should see the contents and use those to over write the ones on nand....... specifically the userdata folder....... I think but I'd wait for someone else to correct me on this perhaps.

EDIT: Oh wait , I see there is actually an option to restore from a .tar in the openelec settings, hmmmm what you did should have worked so.

Apparently this is all you need to do http://linuxsat-support.com/showthread.php?t=88047

I have done that but I end up at the Kodi main page the very same as the video so what do I do next??

Its obviously something very simple because why cut the video off at that point it there is still more to do:confused:

No harm to start again mate, only other advice is make sure to save as required in tvheadend, and rebooting the box can also help some things to show up/kick-in

I couldnt get any of the back ups to work for me (maybe I am doing something wrong) so I flashed openatv 5.1 and got that working (hallelujah). It scanned about 900 channels though a lot of which dont work, how do I detelete the channels that dont work and just leave the channels that do actually work...?

    Run auto bouquet maker
It puts all channels in separate headings. Ie entertainment movies fta etc
It sorts them out for u
