I'm sure it's been discussed before but is there a reason why Donegal v Mayo throws in at 6pm on Saturday?

It means people won't leave Croke Park until 8pm and some will face long journeys to Gweedore and Inishowen.

Hi just wondering what time the Donegal V Mayo game will finish on Sat, is Extra time on the cards?
Was going to stay up in dublin, but see I could get my train back west form drumcondra at 8.20 , i should have time to get there from the hogan stand after the game, right?

I'm pretty sure there's a replay in case of a draw. You'll have loads of time.

    yup

on GAA.ie it mentions along with the info on the the qualifier games that extratime is playable, but for the rest this addition is missing so confirming that as is standard in the championship, a replay happens upon a draw.

They seem to do this if one county has a lesser team playing the same day, ie minors, juniors etc. Bloody annoying

I honestly think the season Tyrone has had is just about perfect in terms of preperation for the Monaghan game. A really tough game against Donegal where we showed we weren't too far away from the level of a top 4 side, then a handy run in the qualifiers to try out things without having to really go into top gear.

If Monaghan win on Saturday I'll not be using Ulster or the 4 games since as an excuse.

If Donegal lose though you could be entitled to.

Donegal's route last year was perfect for them.

A tough slog up in Derry to kick everything off, a month off, a grand win against Antrim, three weeks off, Monaghan in a final, 2 weeks off, a battle against Armagh, three weeks off, The Dublin demolition, three weeks off, final.

Monaghan's way through this year is just as good. Can't underestimate the value of those 3 week recovery periods in between the games for a side like Monaghan who prepare so well. Compared to other counties who might be sitting on their arses for 6 weeks at a time etc who would rather be playing more regularly.

I know Tyrone have only a 7 day turn around but we don't have any injuries that I know of and everyone looks fresh. I suppose the difficult route though can be great providing you don't start to lose players.

How so ? The Dubs are through to the semi final.

In my opinion Dublin did not play to near their full potential and that should be a cause for concern for those involved.
The obvious difference between the two counties, on paper, was not at all reflected in the final score.
By that I mean population, funding and home advantage.

As far as I know the Mayo v Donegal game at the weekend is only on Sky Sports and not on Saorview. If that's true then in my opinion it's an absolute disgrace.

The obvious difference between the two counties, on paper, was not at all reflected in the final score. By that I mean population, funding and home advantage.

Imo the difference between two football teams is measured on the pitch, it comes down to their ability to play football. Skill level, training, motivation, available players, hunger, preparation, set up on the day etc. I get how those details could have a significant impact but consider this,

Under the same conditions the difference between Dublin and Kilkenny/Tip/Galway/Cork in hurling has never been reflected on the pitch in my lifetime.
To expect it to do so by comparing the magnitude of those variables wouldn't win much in the bookies. It most likely would in soccer, rugby, golf, boxing, cricket??? etc and again not handball, but it's flawed logic imho.
I'm not disputing that there are large differences, but I would question having an expectation based on those variables when we can apply them to different sports and get results from both ends of the spectrum.

In comparing two teams, imho the important factors are the managers response on the line, style, form motivation (so few do two in a row), fitness levels etc.

I'd rather play Kildare than Kerry in football or Antrim than Tip in Hurling. I wouldn't expect Kildare to beat Kerry because they spent more on development, have a larger population or are nearer to croke park. They might have a better equestrian team though

The hypothetical gap between Dublin and Fermanagh on Sunday was in no way comparable to a clash between any two of those hurling teams.
The best comparison of any two teams is the final score and the obvious difference on paper was not reflected on the pitch.
The depth and strength of the dubs panel would suggest a greater winning margin than there was, regardless of how hungry Fermanagh were.
It's not necessarily a bad thing though, I still fancy the dubs for Sam. But my Gaa knowledge is limited and that prediction is more based on common sense than anything else.
