Could be getting my first car back!

How difficult is it to weld sills on a 97 Polo? :")

Just took a Vw Passat 1.9tdi for a spin.. Wow they are nice cars to drive. Engine was very smooth and very powerful. Didnt think it would be as good.

I have it until tomorrow evening, no doubt I'll try to get a bit more driving done with it! :p

    Get ready to beeeennnnd over.

Drawing ye all back to batteries, is it a sign that a battery is starting to get tired when the battery light stays on for about 10 - 15 secs upon start up from cold. It happens the odd time lately. I have the car 3 years, and I haven't touched the battery, there's a case around it, so I never really investigated. But I'm fairly sure it's the original. The car is an 08. From what of it that I can see, it's fully black with no branding, so I'm thinking it's oem.

B5 Passat.. Think its 2001 or 2002 (have it parked outside, will check later.)
Only 160k mile on it too, which is low for a diesel in my eyes.

Does anyone have any past experiences with them or know any common problems?

I'd nearly consider buying one but it would kill me to pay the high tax of €673 :(

The VW 1.9 diesels are very reliable. You can find them with lower mileage too.

I wouldn't be a fan of the rattle though. :P

I may bring this car back to the garage this noise is gone very bad and just annoying im 99% sure it's a bearing or warpped disc I'm guessing neither will be covers by warranty as they are wear items but regardless I need to get it diagnosed and sorted out. I got a last minute day of work tomorrow so hopefully they might be able to squeeze it in tomorrow although they are very busy so I won't hold out much hope.

I suppose if it needs 2 new discs you are probably talking 200 euro supplied and fitted and a bit less if it's a wheel bearing.

Yes I know that but I hate paying that amount when the car is nearly worth that much itself :p

Im guessing this "rattle" is common? We had a 1.9tdi Galaxy in the family for 10 years and never had any major problems with it so they seem like a good engine!

    Yes, all diesels rattle.

Pre/post 2008, what does it matter, if you want to drive something nice in this country you will be bent over and taken for a ride.

Tax on our two post 2008 cars is €4700 annually.

Or I could continue having a decent sex life [in my 1.3 rolla] and not drive a Polo

I dont think I'll give out about road tax ever again

My uncle had a Mercedes ML320 last year. €1500 for a years road tax! It came to a stage where he couldnt justify paying that much on road tax. He bought a 151 Merc CLA180 and tax is only €190 for the year. Much more economical too!

Split the sidewall on a tyre last friday. Dropped 130 on a replacement because it'd split open to the bead - even through it still held air.

Kind of regret doing it since I now have about 40 quid to get through the week.

While If I'd left well enough alone it would've gone pop with someone else driving, been put down as an 'act of God' and roundly forgotten.

Cars would have you broke even when they are not acting up they swallow a lot of money just through running costs. Ah well I suppose you have to spend your money on something :)

    New woman in the scene?

Took heed of mechanic and drove the car as he suggested made a world of difference

Have put a temp fix to stop the rattle

Also noticed that none of the interior lights in the roof work, possible blown fuse? This is when they are set to come on when the door opens

And we found what is causing the awful rattle too

Great news good the hear it's not a major issue.

You must be sick of looking at cars at this stage it must be months at this stage you must have great patience. I would be patient in general but when it comes to searching for cars after a week of it I would be well and truly sick of it. If I was in your I would have had a breakdown at this stage :pac: ah sure you seem to be enjoying getting to look at all the different cars and see what a few are like to drive over a few days and you will get the better car if you wait for it.
