He's redoing the C64 book to be more like the Amiga one. More content and slightly different format(hardback as well I hope). It'll come with a case of some sorts to hold both the Amiga and C64 books, which is nice :0)

Is there any ETA on this? Will that be another Kickstarter initially? Tempted by the Amiga one but £50 + postage is pretty steep for a book.

Hmm, seems I read it wrong. It's going to be a companion book for the then original one.
    Hi guys

Later this year, am going to be releasing an 'add-on' edition to the C64 book. This is not a volume 2, it will be like a companion book. It will contain content more inline with my recent Amiga book i.e. the demo scene, interviews with artists, developer articles and loads more games. I will then offer this in a slipcase to house both books. This way I can cover more things as the Commodore 64 book really does deserve to be expanded. If you are interested in this, I will be giving you a unique code for a loyalty discount.

That sounds better... would hate to think the current book would be rendered redundant.

Don't know how they can follow-up Amazing Spiderman 2, definitive interpretation of the myth, the legend.

Mad Max was no AS2 either.

I just hope they show how he gets his spider powers again... I'm still a little fuzzy on the details.

Well just saw Age of Ultron. That was totally daft.

Fine with me. He looks like he can pull off the geeky look.

Speaking of Mark Webb movies, I am watching (500) Day of Summer right now, and I do not care for this flick at all.

I like the Expectations/Reality bit, at least.

Wasn't there a mutant sea bass in there, with a laser helmet?

Oh ffs, it wasn't bad by any stretch, a wholly enjoyable night at the movies, James Spader played robo-Red from the blacklist and was excellent, it wasn't as good as the first film, nor in the same league as Winter Soldier but it was fine.
There have been plenty of sh1te films over the summer, Jupiter Ascending anyone?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,277 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

**** all character development, introducing characters I don't know or care about for comic book guy fan wankery, action scenes were there is no danger at all to participants because they all have franchise films to bugger off to and then most of the film was setting said franchise films rather than actually being a cohesive film. The bad guys reasons for wanting to destroy the world were weaker than a JRPG villains.

It was pretty bad all round, just a load of fancy explosions and fights and no reason to care about any of the stakes involved because they were either daft, not well explained or just nonsense. If the fight scenes hadn't been well directed it would be close to transformers levels of bad.

    I don't know.
Ultron was a combination of machine logic and Stark arrogance, to keep the world safe from destruction it us necessary to remove the thing that threatens it the most, the people that live there, and then Stark's self belief meant that it never doubted itself.
Also, being a robot it had no willy.

Oh, and the Black Widow/Hulk stuff was great as was the Hawkeye material, a nice change of pace and chance to develop the movie in a wholly unexpected and not unwelcome direction. Certainly it was far better than the dreadful Iron Man 3 that was down there with Pacific Rim as one of the worst tent pole movies I've seen.

I wrote my thoughts about Age of Ultron here, so won't repeat 'em: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=95251536#post95251536

I wouldn't even say the film is 'bad' in the way a Transformers film is bad: it's just so painfully, aggressively, depressingly mediocre.

It's a shame. Winter Soldier was really good... I'd want more stuff like that. But the next Captain America movie sounds like it's going to be even worse than Age of Ultron for having to much junk dumped into it.

But big long messy drawn out action scenes with no sense of tension seem to be what kids want these days.

In fairness to Whedon though, I'd imagine it's a very difficult film to make, and it's probably the best that film ever could have been. The studio probably wanted lots of stuff in it to tie into other movies and to sell particular toys and he probably had to balance everything so all actors got a fair share of stuff to do, but ultimately you're left with something with very little substance.

Daredevil on Netflix is brilliant though, so I'm looking forward to AKA Jessica Jones now more than any of the Marvel movies right now.

Also to look forward to is Legends of Tomorrow, the spin off of The Flash and Arrow. Flash has been great so far, Arrow has had a bit of a wonky 3rd season though. But this new spin off looks like a stupid amount of fun... it's dumb comic book stuff and it doesn't care:

The action sequences were the one thing about the movie that annoyed, they felt needlessly padded, only so many scenes of smushed robots needed thank you.
But there was plenty to enjoy tbh.
Sure, different strokes and all that.
Roll on Tomorrowland and Jurassic World!

I absolutely hated the Hawkeye sideline story, it felt completely half arsed and a quick attempt to show they were 'human', the fact that it went absolutely nowhere either seemed to make the whole thing pointless only to show that some of them had secrets.

I know the movie wasn't perfect but I do think it's just too easy to see a fun like this and spend it rolling your eyes.
They were never going to make Empire Strikes Back, they have said they won't be going that dark, feck it, not my job to defend it. And how could I, I loved Chappie!

I watched that Atari dig movie last night. Was alright, wanted to see more of the excavation though. Once they discover the first E.T cart it just kind of ends.

The whole thing was purely make you think he was going to get killed. He was only short of buying a yacht called the 'Live Forever'.

I liked all the Atari history stuff, but I found the dig stuff needlessly padded out with unnecessary drama.

It's on Netflix the moment, for anyone else who wants to see it. I also tried watching that Video Game the Movie documentary on the history of videogames. It was awful. 5 minutes in and they were already up to the xBox 360.

If you want to learn about Atari history then Racing the Beam is the book I'd recommend. I believe there's a new book about the NES that goes into the game detail as Racing the Beam.

Yeah I watched that video game the movie doc too. Kept jumping all over the place timeline wise. One minute they were talking about the NES, then on to the PS3, then Megadrive etc... wasn't great tbh.

Totally agree, the doc would have lasted about 10 mins if they took the drama out if it!

The Video Game doc was turned off in our house within 15 mins, utter waste of time TBH.

Bit of a Sega Saturn retrospective going on over at The Guardian for the 20th anniversary.

    http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/may/14/sega-saturn-how-one-decision-destroyed-playstations-greatest-rival?CMP=fb_gu

Lot of information ye'd already know, but it's kinda refreshing to see a mainstream outlet not only cover older gear, but do it with a bit of hutzpah.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,277 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I actually don't think what Sega did with the Saturn lead to it's failure. I feel it was just how brilliant Sony handled the Playstation that lead to it destroying the saturn. It was still neck and neck until 1996 when the PS1 finally got some real classics and stuff like Resident Evil cemented the console as the one to go for.
