I think the Retro stuff and him and his chef friend choking on weird food is when Ashens is at his best these days, the Poundland tat stuff doesnt really do it for me these days either, same for his lame film projects, but fair play to him he's kept the quality up for years and years now. Theres no other retro reviewer I want to watch demonstrate an old handheld or console more.

£16 shipping from the UK to Ireland for a £25 pledge!! Seems quite a ripoff on that side of things. I'd like the book, but even though I voted Yes today, I don't personally enjoy a good ramming (but will fight to allow others to enjoy it) :)

For you, the day Bison graced your laptop was the most important day of your life.
But for him, it was Tuesday.

I remember a guy had a Sega collection of those for sale a couple of years ago, regret not buying them when I had the chance.

I've a famicom and dreamcast version of those. Comes with all the mini bits and pieces. I like the little VMU's on the DC one :)

Consoles are great. PCs are great. That article is rubbish, 'Fact'.

Anyway it would take more than a PC to make Destiny good :P

He doesn't know what facts are. FACT!

Haven't had much time to play House of Wolves yet, but it seems pretty great. Haven't played Destiny in a few months and they've lots of nice little changes since I was gone to improve things. Most importantly they've reinstated the 'That wizard came from the moon' line.

Been playing through Witcher 3 a bit too... can't for the life of me understand why it was getting good reviews. The controls are garbage and the story is bewildering. I thought I didn't know what was going on because it's been a few years since I played Witcher 2, but I went back and read up on the story and no... it's all completely unconnected stuff but delivered in such a way that makes you think that your character already knows all this stuff.

Shame. I enjoyed Witcher 2, which was more like a Bioware game... this entry seems a like Assassins Creed nonsense.

I think The Witcher 3 makes a good first impression. The world seems much more interesting to me than, say, Skyrim or Dragon Age, even if it follows the same old fantasy, Sub-Tolkien tropes. The place feels alive, is full of memorable details, and looks absolutely fantastic.

But the more I play the less I like the game around it. The map really does become full of busywork, constant distractions that make the whole experience lose focus and energy. And given the levelling up is so glacial you actually need to explore and carry out those tasks. And the inventory micromanagement is simply infuriating, counterintuitive and time consuming - there's hundreds of items you need to keep track of.

When I'm booting up Steam I'm finding myself much more drawn towards Sunset, to be perfectly honest, which to me seems like a far more focused, intelligent and refreshing game.

I agree. I havent played it but have been watching it on Twitch.
I like the trees and weather mechanics.

Story is a bit mental in places but no more than other games.
It does seem to be a lot of "go here do that then ill give you what you want".

I know the game isnt for me, too much inventory, spells and the map is huge.
Im not smart enough for those RPGs.

I like the card game element also, but again im useless at that.

Stick to the maze games and shooters eddie.

Yeah i think that may be more to do with some the likes of royal mails " mailing to dublin or dobrovnik as the same price band regardless of distance" . Parcelmoteled it myself .

I didnt see any problem with it .
On Fps games Pc's Mouse/keyboard = nice tight controls
where as controller usually means big hit boxes and auto aim.
    (is destiny 3rd person though?)
There doesnt seem to be any reason not to bring dlc to the pc version of that game other than the usual games industry bull****.
to be honest for me , outside retro stuff I only really play fighters and racing games on console(not counting the odd platform game), most else for me is PC

I've been thinking about picking up a Famicom, but I'm not sure I could set one up on any of the TVs in my house without modding it. I have a VCR which I set up yesterday to see if it still worked (heads seem to need cleaning, but everything else seems fine). Would I be right in thinking that I could tune it in through the VCR, or would that still require jumping through hoops?

The problem for me is the only real alternative to pixel art is Adobe illustrator art that a lot of games use now. It looks absolutely horrendous in the vast majority of cases but with the popularity of the likes of angry birds and other games that use it it's seen by the public as the more appealing art form.

I'am having the opposite experience tbh, about 30 hours in and loving it so far, most of the optional stuff are the best I've played in a game of the sort and some very interesting storylines as opposed to the usual collect x of this. The writing and voice acting is all top notch too and the main storyline is full of twists and turns. I've never really tried levelling up just went with the storyline and the odd quest line here or there and never had a problem level wise except the werewolf sidequest, they regen health so fast I had to leave it and come back when I was level 5 which made it much easier. Loved the first two and theres alot of crossovers. Wandering around anything could happen.

I use Illustrator almost every day and I can tell you seeing the like of Angry birds makes me sick. That software can produce some amazing results and seeing the **** some games crank out is horrible!

Best thing really is to get the AV mod done, its not hard in fact you could save time and just buy one already modded.
They are a cracking machine but deserve a good signal to watch it through and RF just ain't gonna cut it mate.
Mine is AV nodded and piped into a little 6" pvm and very lovely it is too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

The famicom won't actually work on Pal tv's through RF as it won't support the signal. You might be able to fiddle around with the service menu depending on the TV and maybe get it to work but it's much easier to get the av mod done.

    Thanks for the replies!

That's what I was worried about, and why I was thinking if connecting it through a VCR would make the slightest difference. It would have only been used temporarily until I either got around to trying the mod myself or having it done by someone else if possible.

I was looking at the AV/Twin models, but the prices seem to run up pretty high, plus (although the controller cables are stupidly short) there's something about the original model that I like.

Is the AV mod an easy job to do? I haven't come across many videos online about it.
