Would something like this work ok on a crt sony triniton using svideo? Also what resolution would I need to run at. Total newb with mame stuff!

You'd be much better off using soft15khz and making a VGA to Scart(RGB) cable, have a look at Brownfingers thread of his latest restore, he is doing this.

you can run windows in 640x480 or 800x600

Also here is a quick list of compatible cards with Soft15khz.

Anybody know any TV hanging services in Dublin, have the bracket so I can get the TV in tate mode, tried finding the studs with a stud finder myself and drilled in but seems the studs are about 3" back from the plaster.

You'll just have to man up!
Whats on the other side of the wall? (your gaff, outside, next door?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭safetyboy

Its next door and seems to be a metal fence type thing about 2" or so back from the plaster. I'll man up I just dont want 200 holes in the wall :)

Becareful not to hit that metal screen, its electrified to prevent ants migrating from one property to another.

Sounds like you have a metal stud wall.
there will be some sort of stud up against the plasterboard.
Pian in the hole to get a good fixing.
you gotta do something like this.
    p_SDW_154_08.jpg
Belive me its doable as ive done it loads before but can be messy.

Ahh jaysus.. that's what it looks like through the 2 holes I made, you reckon the plaster could hold a 42" with the proper plugs?

not a hope in hell:D (edit I wouldnt anyway!)
You need to get a pad saw and cut out a nice big hole.
    the put the timber in,
use a piece bigger than the base of the mount.
replace the plasterboad you cut out with the same piece.
screw it back on with plasterbaord screws other wise they'll rust, then fill the holes.
Then you should be good to go .
Not hard but a bit messy .
Watch out for wires and pipes tho !

    Look on the bright side.
while you have a hole in the wall you can hide your cables

    another edit!
    These look good.

Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable not have a proper ground for a TV.
Those fixings are good when installed correctly.
if they are hammered in incorrectly the back of the plasterboard bursts out leaving them weak as a kitten.

that says 30kg force straight down.
whatsa a 42 tv weigh these days 14/15 kgs at a guess.
I suppose if you used 6/8 of those with the correct screw your gonna be ok

    Hmmm,
i'd be a bit worried the way it comes out so far from the wall.
I know you probably would never have it extended out but still

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭safetyboy

I ordered a pack of them Gripits so will give them a go seeing as I already have a few holes drilled, Yeah I would never extend it out I think I will just lock it with some cable ties to be sure. 180Kg 1 holds so with 3 I should be safe enough.

I've done exactly this before, messy but it'll be done proper and while the wall is open you could run the cables neatly behind it:D

I used similar Grips to mount a 32" on the wall not so long ago and it was fine, only problem I had was the wall mount. I'am not sure it s the same as yours but it was a rotatable one from Amazon. The TV would tild forward and I could never get it straight, it was secure but the weight of the tv tilted it forward no matter what I done, in the end I took it down and replaced it with a 26" tv and it was fine and can be rotated easily. In hindsight I would have mde sure the wall bracket was up to the task.

Anybody see the new M.Bison Street Fighter 5 trailer? His Ultra is his Psycho Crusher and it doesn't show a regular one. That would be a bizarre change.

Seen it there a few mins ago, the game looks exactly like SF4 to me  I thought it would have had a different look to it, like SF2 changed over SF1, SF3 changed over SF2, SF4 changed over SF3 etc...

It's very obviously the same engine as SF4. While its a fine engine I'm a little burned out on all the games using it.

So they just ran out of SF4 names & badged it SF5 :o Yeah same here, when I seen the first shots of SF4 I was impressed & dying to play it, but this, well, it's just more of the same no?

For you, the day Bison graced your laptop was the most important day of your life.
But for him, it was Tuesday.

I won't say it will be that bad, I'm sure they'll change it enough to distinguish it from SF4. However everything's the that engine kind of feels similar. It's like the way Call of Duty still feels like a Quake 3 team arena mod.

The detachable unit from the cartridge adaptor is a clever idea, especially for playing on other TV's etc. One thing though I notice the article states because of this it "neatly overcomes the rather thorny issue of ROM distribution". I don't see how just by having a detachable unit it overcomes this at all, am I missing something?

Also no NES playability is a bit of a bummer.

The way I understood it, is you can dump your own carts to the device & leave them on (rather than dump/play, dump/play as per the Retron). Not sure myself how this combats 'rom distribution' either, as if the distribution of games you can't buy retail anymore is a problem anyway!
Also no NES playability is a bit of a bummer.

Indeed, though given it's for the Jap market, I can see why. I guess they could easily release a cheap adapter to use NES carts in the Fami slot?

Pretty sure a NES to famicom adapter would sort that out. The pin configuration is the same just reversed and the extra NES pins are just for the lock out chip so not needed.

They're as cheap as chips, there's a guy based in Dublin on adverts selling them.
The machine looks interesting but hard to see it being sold legitimately given the scope for piracy.
It is another emulation station though, and that was a point of criticism of the Retron5, plus will the software running on it be straight, as in will it be properly sourced rather than the dubious perversion of the open source software used in the Retron5?
