Makes me a little ill inside when I think that Fergie pubically said we wouldn't pay the £5m agent fees for Hazard yet were happy to do it for Bebe and then spent another £10m on Zaha.

when you see other deals such as 90k a week sanctioned for Ashley Young, a 5 year contract for Nani and Valenappeayou'd wonder what the f*ck is going on in our club

I think that was just fergie saving face. Chelsea had just won the champions leauge. Was trying to big up utd with the not the United way ****e and Chelsea don't care about money rhetoric

He could hardly say he wanted to go to Chelsea. If hazard really wanted to come here and the only stumbling block was the agent fees, why not fire his agent?

Seems United are indeed interested in Laporte.

I'm sure a young player from Bilbao will be easy to sign and cheap to boot.

I can't take this rumours seriously so late in the window. Surely they would have made contact last month?

Not if van Gaal only received his 'warchest' in the past few days...

I'll be very surprised if we sign a defender this window. Or anyone at all other than valdes.

Same here - too late for any moves of significance to be made.

Bye bye champions league for another season, and possibly a long time. Well don LVG, Woodward.

Atleast we got Valdes. He could be crucial if DDG has a couple of dodgy games.

    Feck off.

The current squad is not good enough, and we won't qualify for the CL because of it.

We are horribly weak in defence, and needed to do something about it.

Jones, Smalling, Evans are not proving good enough and we have had to play Valencia at right back far too often. These issues needed to be rectified, and they have not been.

It was not acceptable how we left the defence in the summer and it is unacceptable now, too.

Worst thing we could do is drop him after a few mistakes. The whole DDG/Lindegaard swap around a few years ago was ridiculous.

The current squad is easily good enough for top 4. We are top 4 at the moment after a ridiculous run of injuries, we should get there comfortably with any sort of normal luck along the way.

I'd say that as United fans we should be hoping for far more, that simply making Champions League isnt good enough and in that sense i hope we strengthen. But if top 4 is simply the aim this year, then it'll be the players and LVG's fault if we dont get there. The squad provided by Woodword and the board is easily good enough to achieve that task

Top 4 should be well possible after the investment in the summer, and Woodward will not be getting any blame from the majority of fans imo. The obsession with attacking him annoys me.

It was said weeks ago we wouldn't be signing any stop gap players, and it would appear there's a major view towards the summer now, when the Adidas deal kicks in. As for this window, I still think we'll get at least one player. I think we're probably looking to see who is available that would be a long term first choice prospect, rather than a quick fix, and there won't be a signing for the sake of a signing...

I agree. So why is it performing so poorly?

zaha cost united 10m, Cardiff paid Utd 1.5m loan fee last year and paid his entire 35k a week wages, this year palace paid a 3m loan fee for the season and are paying his wages, that's 4.5m.

I presume palace will be interested in re signing him come the summer as he is doing well for them, I cant see united selling for anything less than 7m, so we will actually make profit on him

Our defence is not good enough to get us top 4 imo. The team being made overly defensive to compensate of the lack of quality at the back is hindering us going forward (as well as stupid, imo, tactical decisions). We won't finish top four. Arsenal and probably Liverpool will take 3rd and 4th spot.

IMO, there is still a core group of players entrenched in the ways of old, and a lack of wingers capable of doing a creative job. Getting rid of them is nearly as important as bringing in new ones....

If the manager actually played the defenders in their actual positions then we would have a much better idea as to who's good enough or not. Jones and Evans have been terrible this season, but they've mostly played in a back 3 that they haven't played much of in their careers.

Exactly. Woodward outdone himself in all honestly during the summer. ADM, Falcao, Blind, Shaw, Herrera and Rojo.

There are two players in that list that can play CB btw and two superstars. Yet we have to listen to well done Woody?

Woodward has shown himself more than capable of getting in top players and targets like Blind and Rojo that LVG would have wanted.
If we are not signing defenders its down to the manager not pointing out his targets or club and agent difficulties.

Do you honestly think Woodward is sitting on his arse or too incompitent to get a deal done still, after the summer? Really people?

If we don't make top four its down to a stubborn manager playing a poor system and an injury ravaged defense.

Alas we get this moaning every window. You'd think patience would have been learned as we all know a lot happens late in the window but here we are again with the knives out.

5-3-2 and the worst injury struck defense in the EPL.

Woodward has been one of our best signings. We may all have joked and kinda complained when we were signing more sponsors and no sign of players being signed when Moyes took over.
But it is clear he is not afraid to spend the cash, I can only see him increasing sponsor revenue, which means United are in a very strong position off the pitch, we just need what is happening on the pitch to be as good as the work done by Woodward.

Next summer will be again very exciting in my opinion, I don't think United should buy a player they don't really want in this window, just to sign a player. One could argue this is why we spent so much on Zaha and now by the looks of it, selling him back at a much lower price.

I think the two main defenders LVG wants are Hummels and Laporte. Hummels not moving now, but it was interesting how he didn't rule out moving in the future.
Laporte is £31 million so we have to wait and see if his buyout clause is activated, if he is open to a United move, I say make it happen, there is a lot of chatter his future is either at United or Real Madrid.

I wouldnt call it a stupid tactical discussion.

We are over stocked in attacking quality and understocked in defensive quality. This is the consequence of having poor defenders, we need to compensate.

It's a simple tactical decision to blunt our attack to make our defense better. The tactic is working. You're right in saying the defense isn't good enough. Like it or lump it the tactic is working. A mentality of we will score more than you is stupid.

I don't think lvg cares that it is pissing off fans and pundits. We have conceded one of the fewest amounts of goals in the league. Thank god for de gea r we would be seeing 10 at the back
