Are we expecting much of that?? ... probably ITV Studio content for the most.

I'd say film in general will need to be announced, maybe a few US series or Australian series.

Slightly bizarre at this late stage that they haven't told us if this is definitely going to be made available on Saorview.

I think most of the film rights are wrapped up long term - TV3 earlier in the year announced a deal to take film right from RTÉ if I remember correctly. Having a browse through ITV Studio stuff you realise they have some very good content available that TV3 never bothered with.

As I said I think the next 2 weeks will be the time we should learn such things ... if we enter December without an announcement I think the deadline could very well be missed.

They won't be able to rely purely on itv studio, the don't have any Fremantle distributed programming.

The deadline will NOT be missed - testing at this stage would be a complete waste of time especially when UTV NI is pulling in the Irish advertisement spend in the run up to Christmas.

Is that a big proportion of the ITV Studio suite do you know?

Oh I totally agree that UTV Ireland will launch on the 1st Jan on some platforms but maybe not all platforms. A good EPG position is also vital for the long term success of the venture.

AFAIK it's the main weekend/big event ITV programmes.

No sports/no films on UTV Ireland ?

Ya TV3 retained the FremantleMedia stuff including XFactor, Britain’s Got Talent, Family Fortunes, Take Me Out, US X Factor and Downton Abbey... Still some big shows there from TV3 but during the week they are going to be slaughtered.

UTVI have big gaps to fill during the weekend but the ITV Studios collection alone has some good stuff so they might be able to stem the tide reverting to TV3. AFAIK there will be no sport (apart from maybe the weekly rallying programme if its still going) but it appears that they have very limited (if even that) access to films as RTÉ, TV3 & TG4 have them tied up - a few from ITV Studios but nothing major at all.

Just flicking through the ITV Studio stuff there and the seem to have the series "Rectify" on their books ... have heard very good things about it from the States (from the producers of Breaking Bad and rated 8.5 on IMDb) ... its stuff like that (if they have the rights) could do very well for them here.

I wonder do they have access to the entire ITV Studio catalogue though - it would be very interesting to know if they do.. because if they do they could easily put it up to TV3 at the weekends with some of the stuff.

Better to announce them all together rather than one before any other. That would just lead to speculation and questions.

Their goal, first and foremost, is to be ITV for the Republic of Ireland. Independent scheduling will only come into play during the programming, such as movies, sports, and the likes of X Factor/Britain's Got Talent, for which they don't have the rights. ITV will have lost all live club football at the end of this season which will mean that, RWC and England internationals aside, sport won't be as much of a problem as it previously was.

It's these massive gaps in schedule at primetime during the weekend that I ask about the ITV studio collection.. If they have unrestricted access to the 4000 odd programmes then they could easily build up a schedule to at least try match TV3. If you flick through the material you can see many shows including series which could form a very decent channel.

A video showing paint drying would match TV3's weekend output. A decent drama would do very well for UTV Ireland.

Xfactor and a few other shows actually do alright for TV3 though .. They have a loyal following and are probably their best viewership of the weekend. If UTV have access to the entire collection then they could build a decent schedule.

UTV Ireland could always buy in BBC Weekend programming like Strictly, RTÉ tend not to buy theses

Just reading bits of the belfast telegraph article
UTV Ireland will not be available to those in Northern Ireland. It will be carried on Sky in Ireland, but not Sky Northern Ireland.

    www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/life/broadcasting-chiefs-tuned-in-for-160m-switchon-of-new-channel-30745865.html

So what about those using a freesat branded box, or a generic sat receiver?

Where does it read your quote on that article?

Will it be FTA on Sky or part of the sub like the other Irish channels?
