Just tried it there on L4D2 to test it quickly, desktop is a Q6600 and 7870, dual GigE NICs, client was a tablet running on wifi, reported link speed is 270Mbps, real world doing 80Mbps(5Ghz).

Panel defaults to 40hz so it was vsyncing at 40fps solid. Slight bit of input lag but I could still pop a few zeds. Will be interesting to try it across pure ethernet.

    EDIT: Forgot, both 1080p.

Yeah would be alright, ive got an older UPC router, unlikely to be gigabit ports on it

If I can persuade my brother to enable it on his gaming PC with Steam (i5 2500k@4ghz + GTX580) I'll try it over our gigabit wired network to one of our Arctic MC001's (Atom D525 + AMD5470 mobile) client machines. Most are running Openelec XBMC off of USB sticks but one does have win 7 on an internal SSD which just needs to be booted without the USB stick to boot into.

Guys, I am getting really dreadful wireless speed in my bedroom. PS4 is getting 5mbit out of 40mbit. PS4 is in other room from modem, but I can almost make them see each other through the door if I move a bit to the side. So I dont really think its issue with distance or a wall. I think eircom modem is shiet in general.
Is it worth getting a better modem/rooter or it will be around 100eu++? Or maybe someone knows decent homeplugs? Preferably the one I could just connect ethernet cable and have wifi on the other side ( or even ethernet again ). Not too expensive though. I dont want or expect to get 40mbit in that room too, but getting at least 15-20mbit in ps4/that room would be handy.

Another thing is on Keyboards. I am pretty sure there are mushroom growing out of my keyboard. :pac: Its old and time for upgrade. I am still not decided on switches, but so far Black ones look like the best bet. I am right to say that red switches are the ones, that have linier feel and no "click"? Which ones you using guys?

If I can, I might get both things ordered from amazon at the same time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

First off, I'd go with homeplugs.

As for keyboard switches, yeah, reds are the linear ones with no click. Blacks are basically heavier reds. Blues are the bumpy/clicky ones, and browns are bumpy, with less of a click.

Right... The god damn wall socket is not even near TV ( I just looked and remembered ). So I might need an extra long ethernet cable too...
I am not sure now about those homeplugs with wireless.... I got one of those wifi extenders and those are horrible. I ended up throwing in to a "man drawer" to never be taken out again.

How long is "extra long" exactly? Because this.

With that think, I might as well just connect my PS4 from my neighbours rooter across the road! :pac:

Funny enough, I moved my rooter in to different position ( took it off the pc ) and my PS4 is now getting 17mbit from wireless connection. Like WTF.

Looked at the keyboards, but I am not sure about switches. Red looks like a very popular way to go, but I am not sure I like linier switches. Blue switches would work for me better, at least that what I took from a few youtube videos.
This looks like nice, but amazon only has them in Red.

If you're ever around the Rathfarnham/Balinteer area of Dublin, I have a switch sampler you're welcome to try out. Has the four main ones.

This looks like a similar one with Blues.

Alternatively, there's Cooler Master's cool sort-of-tenkeyless layout one.

I checked videos online and it is massive!

I would need a second table for keyboard alone! :pac:

What switches you using m8? I wonder if I am actually doing mistake with blue switches as I am gamin 99% of the time and blue ones are recommended for typing mostly.

It's the size of a regular keyboard? I'm not really sure what's so huge about it.

I'm using Browns, but once Corsair's RGB keyboard hits (two weeks!) I'll be picking up a Blue version.

It's personal preference. I hate Reds, for instance. I'd much rather Blues or Browns for everything, including gaming. Grab a sampler yourself or something if you're not sure.

I have the ten keyless one, brown switches, really like them, allow me to hammer away to my hearts desire, though i really miss the dedicated number pad. Would use the arrow keys along with the number pad at the same time quite a bit, so its a PIA switching between, or entering a number only to realise the number pad is switch off. Other than that i love it.

Considering going to a full keyboard if i can find one cheap and selling mine. Only cheap one i came across had black switches, which i havent tried and i am reluctant to change from the browns.

I'll be selling my MK-80 as soon as I get Corsair's one, if that's on any interest to you. Browns with blue backlight.

I haven't used the Cooler Master one so I can't be sure, but in theory it sounds absolutely wonderful. I use the number pad quite a bit, but I find for most things it gets in the way a bit, and I don't like how far most of my typing is away from my mouse, so cutting out that much space seems like a nice idea, while keeping the number pad. It's just a pity the thing doesn't have dedicated media keys.

Swap and ill throw in some cable ties as well! You can never have enough of them!

Its only really in excel that i miss it, moving to adjacent cells with the arrows and inputing numbers formulas, alternate, repeat etc.! Not a huge issue anymore as havent had to work on anything large at home in a while.

What sort of price would you be looking for when you sell?

For anybody else looking, this was the keyboard i was following on adverts with black switches, cheap enough but dont think ill be taking the chance if i end up hating the switches, hassle of selling it on again!

I'd say around €70-ish? Cost €150 at the time, and still goes for around €100-120. Perfect condition other than a broken foot, so it can't be raised. Dunno if that's going to bother you or not.

Yeah would be interested alright, though i normally have feet down on my keyboard. Give a shout when your selling it anyways

I bought that keyboard a few months back and am happy out with it. Had never used a mech keyboard before, it took a few days to adjust to the noise but aside from that it was immediately far easier to use than my old domed one.

Wow, was expecting my PC today from HWVS via UPS.

Turns out Hardwareversand never out my house number or estate on the label, so it essentially said

    "Name Surname,
    Galway,
    Ireland"

Called UPS, and they've said they'll try get it delivered today. Just shocked really, address on the email confirmation was fine and everything.

New battery tech may lead to inexpensive, safer electric cars
...The Ryden battery offers the same energy density of current lithium-ion batteries, so would not allow extended vehicle range based on that factor. However, the ability to charge faster might lead to shorter stops at recharging stations. For example, the Nissan Leaf can be charged from empty to full in four hours. The Ryden battery would cut that time down to 12 minutes...
...One of the cost factors for current lithium ion batteries are the metals, cobalt, nickel, and manganese, that go into the cathode. Power Japan Plus has found a way to use cathodes and anodes in lithium-ion batteries constructed of carbon, a much more common and less expensive material. In addition, the company developed what it calls Carbon Complex, an organic carbon derived from cotton suitable for its Dual Carbon battery...
...Power Japan Plus has developed its new battery technology to fit a standard 18650 cell, the type commonly used in laptops, and what Tesla uses in the battery packs of its Model S...

Ironic as it is, its true. I have huge respect to post people, who go aorund with mail and deliveries. Was it popular in Ireland to make a brand new Street and house name just for 1 house? When I moved in to a new place, I was shocked I got all my mail properly first week. I still have to explain Pizza delivery people every single time where I live, even if it is almost in the Centre of town! :pac:

I've had things arrive on time that just had "FULL NAME, CLARE, IRELAND". Fair play to them indeed. DHL always just give up and leave it at the depot till I call them weeks later.

I'm talking about this sort of layout:

    QuickfireTK.jpg

Note the arrows in the bottom right. You can toggle between a numpad an arrows/home keys.
