Well it's now bye bye RTE 1 for me !!
This stupid box of mine automatically either deletes Mux 1 completely or Mux 2 depending on which Mux I happen to be watching.!!
As there is more on Mux 1 I'll stick with it --- as there is no longer RTE1 SD then it's bye bye RTE1.
It comes up with "unused channels have been deleted" " and I can't stop it --- must get an email off to the company to see if there are any software updates then they can add it to my list of non replies.
    Regards

Never seen one myself but are not designed for Saorview but should work have to say like the interface I see on their videos, find it strange it would delete a second mux, have u done the update for the latest firmware listed on its site?

Try resetting to factory default and hitting an auto-tune now that the old signals have been turned off it mite help!

    steveon.
Thanks for your help......I have the latest software installed.
I have tried first time install ,manual channel scan --- you name it I've tried it !!
It is a weird box --- I created a favourite list of RTE only which it kept except the channels had already gone by the time I got to view them although the list remained!!
It does work with UK Freeview --- maybe it doesn't like mixing the 2 but I live in a strong Freeview area and can't stop the Freeview signal getting in.
I even tried pulling the aerial lead out after it scanned the 2 Muxes on 23 and 26 --- then when it finished scanning I put the aerial back and it detected the Freeview channels !
    Regards

Is there an option in the set-up menu to stop it auto-updating channels?

Just wondering, does LCN automatically update the muxes when they change?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,490 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

Did a full digital re-scan on a Saorview approved TV this morning and Channel 11 is still there (old RTE One SD) with a black screen

I thought Saorview were removing it from the EPG last Wed night

No I don't think so. LCN mostly just juggles channels to the recommeneded order as recommended by the broadcast. What you are looking for is automatic updating of new channels or changes on the Muxes. Some TVs have this option, but it is not recommended, as it keeps searching for new channels or muxes. What can sometimes happen is your TV may now and then pick up distant transmitters as new Muxes and suddenly add unwanted channels. This can cause major problems for users who do not understand what is going on, as so often is disabled in the menu by default.

I think its a pity the standard does not have a method to trigger an update to happen automatically, which would be triggered by the broadcaster, once they have made changes to the transmission and want all TVs to update. The TVs would then scan once, and never scan again, until triggered again by the network.

It would work much like Sky's system where channel changes and update are seamless to the users and re-scanning is never noticed or required by users.

    Hi there,

Just a question for some Kildare boardies ..

The rellies have lost the old RTE1 and when I retuned the tele to try and get the new RTE1 HD, it is not available ..

They are just using an aerial in the attic which has been picking up the old RTE1 perfectly ..

is it possible that the new MUX on a different frequency would need some aerial adjustment ??

    Thanks in advance

    Bob

I am not sure if this is the case or if a factory reset would remove it. I do know in the past they flag unwanted or test channels as "hidden" so on approved boxes it skips these channels during up/down channel selections on the remote. On some TVs if you manually press 1,1 it will show hidden channels (11) but using up/down will still skip them. Maybe they want to keep this place name for a while, instead of possibly displaying "no signal" on people's TVs?

Yes definitely. RTE1 is now on a different frequency to RTE2. You need to pick up 2 signals to get RTE1 and 2.

Use this website to find the recommended transmitter for you:
    http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/coverage-map/

Also included on the side is technical information E.g. Channels: 54, 58 which may help you to do a manual scan of each frequency. Manual scans are generally more sensitive and tend to pick up weak signals.

Finally make sure your aerial is pointing the right direction and is horizontal or vertical depending on what is recommended for your location. Make sure is it far from water tanks, and up in the clear. Sometimes hanging it using string or old shoe laces from the rafters can help. If the signal is then dodgy or a no go, you should seriously consider using a professionally installed rooftop aerial, which would give a more reliable result.

LCN 11 remains as a blank channel after a full factory reset, I assume it'll disappear in due course. LCNs 17 & 18 switched to hidden/skipped after those duplicate channels were switched off in the day(s) after.

All Saorview approved TV will automatically update LCNs but can be hit and miss on non-approved receivers. I've 2 non-approved Sony TVs, 1 auto updates the LCNs after any change the other doesn't.

Regarding the reception of distant muxes on the same network, approved TVs will ignore these as per the Nordig spec but non-approved may store duplicate channels.

I did an update channel list scan today on my panasonic idtv and this removed the old rte one sd channel but if I press the number 11 on my tv remote i can still view it. It has a black screen.

it seems a waste not to change the resolution on the sd channels to 704 576 or 720 576 since there is enough space i suppose they dont want to make them look too good.

11 is now hidden on my Samsung TV; have to manually enter the channel number.

The new tarrifs charge for used bit-rate so it would cost more for a station to be 704 rather than the current poor resoltion. Not much more, but more.

HD is about twice (plus a bit) of SD. Better to go HD, 704 would help.

I noticed earlier this morning that at about 6 am that RTE1 +1 was on air and was wondering if it was on all night and when it went off air.

This is a large thread. I have searched but not found the answer.

Has anybody successfully rescanned Ariva 200 Combo?
I am based in Galway and pointing to Maghera.
I can only find 8 channels
    1. Empty - Black Screen, No Label/Title & No Sound
    2. RTÉ Two
    3. TV3
    4. TG4
    5. RTÉ News Now
    6. 3e
    7. 2RN Test Channel
    8. Empty - Black Screen, No Label/Title & No Sound

    Info for 1. is DVB-T, 690000/8M, PID: 1101/1201/81
I don't appear to have any hidden channels - I think
I am on the latest firmware (2.18B8) and have done a Factory Reset.

P.S. - If somebody has a Channel List please PM me. Save me time sorting out those Sat Channels. Thanks.

Current Saorview multiplex line-up, I don't have a list of the sat channels.

Channel line-up by LCN on a Saorview TV setup with Ireland as the country/region on first install
