Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Could you clarify re race numbers, we hardly need CI numbers if you are supplying numbers?

I meant to ask the same, are you providing numbers or do we bring our own?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,986 ✭✭✭Plastik

Seems clear from a few posts above that we're just using the numbers that will be provided tomorrow. Assigned numbers so we know the running order for the TT as soon as possible today would be great though. The start is 5 but if you're at the back of the A2/A3 it could be after 7pm before you're on the road, and much later again for A4 presumably.

What's the weather forecast like for Wexford at the weekend? I'm willing to pay extra if for guaranteed sunshine.

I'd hang on to your few quid . I think it's to be a bit showery on sat but not too bad . Dry on Sunday . As usual it depends on which website you get the forecast from . If I was to look harder I'm sure I could find a forecast of snow with a chance of some miner earthquakes.

Hopefully that means I can do the TT in the dark with nobody looking.

Very bright and sunny today, the heavy rain has passed. Rain radar is looking fairly clear. Brief showers only tomorrow I'd say.

Wait, the A1s have the longest (along with A2/3) race, presumably ridden the fastest, and have least time for recovery before the TT? Whereas the A4s are doing 22km less, and have more recovery time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,986 ✭✭✭Plastik

Well, you want less recovery for the TT or less for the 115km stage on Sunday, Buffy!? I know I'd rather be done early and not have to wait until much later to be properly fed.

Nah, TT's much more of a balls out effort than a race. Sunday you could warm up on the road, and get into it.

Are there jerseys? Quality if so!

There are yellow jerseys and they are really good quality. Was offered to try one of them on last night to get the sizing for the weekend but refused.

Cheers, I just wasn't clear if numbers were provided, just got an e-mail from precision timing confirming they are. Have to change the numbers at each stage for the chips. Looks like this is going to be a cracker tomorrow.

I am predicting humid and minor showers for the first stage with sunshine for the start of the stage 2. Sunday will be sunny all day.

    Interesting I am now A2 :p

I've been demoted from A3 to A4, phew it will be an easier weekend than I anticipated. Also, having all the cats mixed up is a bit strange.

I notice 1750W has been downgraded by A4 to A1. :pac:

Are these going to be the start times for the TT Michael? With the cats mixed up, it gives the later starters an advantage over the earlier ones.

    Or maybe not.

Huh, now an A2....as much as I'd love to upgrade by 2 cats, not this weekend :P

Took a spin around the circuit and up the TT climb this morning. Despite covering myself completely with over-trousers and water-proofs I was totally drenched. It's really nautical out there.

TT climbing times will take a hit today, the wind is blowing straight onto the flat middle section. Aero bars might not be such a bad idea. At least the upside of the current wind direction is you will get a little push up the very last uphill section.

Good luck out there to everyone, watch out for gaps in the hedges.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,167 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

I am ashamed of myself and my attempt.

On another note, fantastically run, great marshalling well done to both Michael196 and all the wexford wheelers out there today.

The sun is coming out for the TT :D

Soaked and probably last in GC. But happy all the same. Looking lovely and sunny now.

1st stage was kinda unpleasant and whoever has my legs can I have them back before tomorrow ? PLEASE !

Just home from spectating at the TT. Breezyish, and rain clouds just starting to form now. God love anyone who gets caught in the rain AGAIN.

Never even made it to the start line! Clutch went as I drove down. Could feel it coming recently but thought I'd make it down for my first stage race. Home now but looking at a hefty bill..... There is no emoticon to describe the feeling when my car finally lurched to a halt. Oh well.

    Any TT results online?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,635 ✭✭✭ericzeking

Its a bit odd the way they are doing the timing on the road stages with everyone getting exact times as opposed to groups getting the same time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,986 ✭✭✭Plastik

Few teething problems and info a bit amiss in places, but two enjoyable stages.

The timing though, is ridiculous. It promotes the mid pack sprinting for the nothing places.

Completely agree with Plastik on this, they clearly stated that they didn't want people sprinting if they are not in a position to win the stage and then they go and do this. Somewhat contradictory?

Other than that it was very well done... Roll on tomorrow

+1 . To give exact times instead of group times isn't the way to go . I think maybe precision timing are more used to doing triathlons than road races .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭michael196

Group timings will be Used . We don't want unnecessary sprinting. What you are seeing is the Raw Data spat out live from the chips to the Internet.

    Grouping applies as subsequent processing.

Any times for Stage 2 yet Mick?

  • Registered Users Posts: 132 ✭✭Actual Paramedic

2 great stages so far, the course choice for each has been superb and also horrendous (my legs say so)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 657 ✭✭✭fondriest

Had serious fun in the tt , somehow managed to bend my chain in the warm up and it came off 5 times going up the hill. Thanks to the people who pushed me to get me going each time and a big thanks to the Lucan rider who gave me his bike with about 500m to go so I could finish it .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 394 ✭✭MichealD

Lots of technology but still hard to get results quickly:)

Great event so far. Weather much, much kinder for TT last night. Looking good here today too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 340 ✭✭maloner

Just back from this and had a great weekend. Safe racing for the most part but some spills today for various reasons. I think a few got taken out when someone had a mechanical on the second last steep climb in A4. A really sharp wall and when a chain or something breaks you're going to grind to a halt pretty quick so no fault there as saw it.

On the first lap just after the above hill there's a sharp enough decent with a left and a fast sweeping right. One guy ran wide and low and behold a car was parked on the outside of the turn. He was probably in trouble anyway but that didn't help. He avoided the full impact of the car but took out the wing mirror and kept it together to stop (I think) before a fence. In fairness the car was gone next time around.

All in all though well run I thought, aside from the timing issues which weren't that big a deal really.

I thought I was in with a hunt of a place on the last stage as I was in the top 5 maybe with about 200-300 to go but the wheel I was following abandoned me to the ravages of the wind and I need all the help I can get with sprinting so faded to come in about 20th.

Really enjoyed a great weekend of racing , the only fault would be the timing . If I were wexford wheelers I wouldn't be paying them . Far to many discrepancies. Can't wait for this race again next year .

Great 3 days in Wexford, very well organised and a credit to the club for organising.

I would share the thoughts mentioned above regarding timing. Clocked my TT on the Garmin yesterday and the timing chip had me 4seconds slower. I would have little confidence on my overall position being correct at all.

All in all a great event but sort out the timing issues for next year please.

    any gc results?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 751 ✭✭✭Arthurdaly

Great weekend of racing, unfortunately the most important aspect of the entire weekend was disappointing.

Multiple issues and in some cases no rider times at all. Great event but difficult to have confidence in a system that only functions sometimes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,124 ✭✭✭daragh_

That was my first stage race and i really enjoyed it.

I had a tough day Saturday being abnormally afraid of slippy surfaces and crashing in the rain. But a very well behaved A4 bunch ensured all survived.

If I'm honest I struggled a bit on both main stages. A good few weeks since I last raced and holidays in between took their toll. Got a couple of tows to keep me on today. Much appreciated.

Organisation was top notch. Well done folks. Looking forward to doing better next year.

    on the way..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,635 ✭✭✭ericzeking

I don't see why the timing chips were necessary for the road stages, the race seems to have been well served with cameras so with CI numbers there should have been no timing issues.

Other than that, a really good event.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,095 ✭✭✭buffalo

Obviously, timing issues were no fun, but I wasn't anywhere near the top of the results, so it didn't really matter to me. :D

Great weekend Michael, well put together. The courses were tough but safe, marshalling was great, but it was the little things that made it - the masseuse in the hall, the ice cream, the weather - on stage 3! Have a couple of suggestions for minor improvements, I'll email them on to you.

Mixed bag for me - I'd only raced Suir Valley since the A1 upgrade, and that had a big bunch to shelter in. Stage 1's wind and rain and rolling terrain was brutal, and I ended up in a fail group. Plan was to roll around the last 10km to warm down for the TT, but the commissaire told us the A2/3 race was nearly on us, and we thought that meant we'd be classed as DNF, so had to put the hammer down. Joe C did a mammoth share of the work - so much so that even as we rolled over the line side by side, he managed to gain a minute on me in the results! :pac:

Stage 2 was good, but not great. Left the hotel with about 15mins to cover less than a km to sign-on, but for some reason turned the wrong way as I came out the gate. Was beginning to wonder why it didn't seem this long in the car, when I arrived at a village... 6km in the wrong direction. Pedalled like hell to get back, great warm-up! Just didn't manage to give it everything in the final km.

Stage 3... arrived at sign-on with 20mins, no warm-up, attacks went from the gun. Did my stint off the front at the 1km mark for about 2km, but nobody came across. Flurry of more attacks, and Robin Kelly and the lads from UCD went up the road. No chasing, just more attacks, and I knew I was in the fail group again. Called it a day, after 9.5km. Enjoyed watching the lads come through in the sun, see what it's like from the other side of the fence. :)

First stage race for me also, did the A4. Fair play to Michael and the rest of the guys, they did a fantastic job.

Only gripe i have was with the timing, did not get a time for stage 1 or 3, and now have been completely removed from GC, mentioned it to precision timing both yesterday and this morning re stage 1 and they said they would add me manually but nothing sorted yet.

Only gripe? That's pretty major in my opinion, nice to have ice cream and music but no times in a stage race is not on.
