..Well happy with this as far as I can see the only improvement of the 250 over this is the addition of the cam module to put viewing card into. Is that right? Thanks for advice here, really useful. :)

I have the 150 but im gonna sell it, the family wanted to go back to the SkyHD box - The other addittion on the 250 (which I would have liked) is that the front display on the 250 actually tells you in words what channel you are on rather than numbers. That and the Universal remote I like the sound of

The "record" setting is a bit subtle - after you go Timer Mode -Once, the next line is Timer Service - this needs to be changed from "Channel" to "Record" - otherwise the timer does work but it just changes the channel displayed on the TV at the correct time, rather than recording it.
    Does this help?

hi how do you find the recorded program after:)

Use the little PVR button near the bottom of the remote. You will see items at the top like Music/Pictures/Video/Record and a couple of others, can't remember right now. Go to the Record option at the top and select the USB device below with the OK button. Then you can select any recorded programs. Similarly for any video files on the USB device you have connected; just go to Video and browse the USB device.

Hi guys installed one of these for my parents today. Getting some blocking on some channels both sat and terrestrial. Tightened up connections and turned off hdmi cec. Going to keep an eye on it. Anyone else ever see behaviour like this? Also swapped out the hdmi cable just on case. It's a secondhand box so I'm not sure what firmware it on but would updating it help? Anyone have a link to the latest 150 firmware? If I update will I loose my channel list?

Software is on the manufacturers site:

    http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/download/HD-Satellite-Receivers/Ariva-150-Combo/

Some channels are blocked because they are subscription channels.

Plug back in your HDMI cable.

Yes you will lose your channel list - you can make a new one using the Ariva Editor. Some people dump the channell list from the box and then upload it again on new software but I understand that that is not recommended.

It's been known for HDMI cables to radiate interference at frequencies that can affect terrestrial reception but not satellite.

Did you install the aerial & dish too?

I was just replacing a freesat box with the ariva. Was all fine this morning. It was itv hd that was pixelating but I checked one of the other variations and it was Ok

It's unlikely to be a problem with the box. Even if it has a less sensitive tuner than what it replaced, this shouldn't cause problems with a properly set up system receiving from 28 degrees east.

While the remote for the 250 might be universal to control amp, TV, etc I still prefer the 150 remote myself, it's much better laid out and a bit easier for non techies to use.

It's a shame a Sky remote can't be somehow modded to control these boxes, as they're a good design :)

    I agree 100%

On the 250 remote, the button for brining up the list of all the sats you have tuned in is not obvious (I think its the F3 button) and I always forget where it is. On the 120 remote it is much clearer.

Dosent automatically get programmed into the Harmony remote either.

I can never find that PVR button without my glasses so I get to the recorded programmes slightly differently - I hit "menu" button, then go to "record" tab and the rest is the same. By the way, you can take the USB key or hard disk and plug it into a different TV and play the stuff there - though it's likely the names of the programmes and fast forwarding etc will not be quite as easy or clear as in the original box.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but when you are flicking through the UK channels does the on screen display show the channel name?

Here's the latest free channel list I have for the 150 http://www.mediafire.com/download/214m9a4zvzxx5v9/A150Combo_May_V1.23B2.abs

How to guide below but please follow the instructions to the letter or you risk messing up your box http://www.mediafire.com/view/69yp35sijci8dly/How_to_upgrade_ariva_150_firmware_edited.pdf

Thks to tony. Huge improvement ! I just notice that on channel list ... 1 bbc 1 HD then it goes on in order which is grand ... No sign of Irish stations tho... I am afraid to do a terrestrial scan in case I mess up the whole thing again ???? Will it interfere with it? There are " €" signs beside itv 1 HD and ch 4 HD but nit bbcHd what does that symbol mean !?

    Thks

    Paddy

Doing a terrestrial scan will not mess up your sat channel list as it adds the channels to the end of the all channels list . You can then move them if you wish using the edit function . Its not practical to put RTE etc on a general list as the freqs would not be correct for all parts of the country.

Just a note on recording. Don't try to play any recordings while making a recording. I tried this and, although the channel stays red and it looks like it's still recording, it isn't.

sometimes when viewing a current ( i.e. whilst still recording) recording, I fail the get entire program - it stops recording for some reason?

I've had this problem too - I'm using a USB powered Hard Drive. I'm wondering if I buy an external powered Hard Drive will it fix the problem? I'd appreciate if someone using a powered Hard Drive could advise or comment?

The problem with watching a recorded file and recording at the same time is a bug with the box and not related to powered vs unpowered drives as far as I can tell. I've tried it with both a USB stick and a powered drive with no discernable difference.

So I'd save the money and just use the USB powered drive if it is working for you.

I would try the drive plugged into a powered hub rather than buying a new drive to test it .....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭PatchZ

The problem isn't about powered or unpowered USB drives. The problem is a bug in the satbox that, whilst recording, allows you to start watching a previous recording. It just stops making the new recording without any warning. I'm afraid a powered USB hub will make no difference.

Now my caveat is that I don't think I've tried this with absolute latest firmware (1.24b1) but I'll give it a go later and confirm it is still there.

I'm using 1/23B2 - it'd be great if there was a fix for this as, otherwise, I'd be slow to recommend to people used to the versatility of Sky+
