Here's a dropbox link to my 1.21B6 firmware plus channel list. Hope it's of use.

    No problem but two things.
    1. I have the timeshift disabled as I use a USB stick rather than a harddisk. If you use a hard disk you can re-enable it.
    2. There are a few badly configured channels in there at the moment.
I just reset the system and I'm scanning the channels again. I'll edit this tomorrow and post a better version of the channel list.

So here is an updated channel list on the new firmware. I scanned it in last night and edited it today. I took out the main rubbish; shopping channels, religious channels, dodgy chatline etc. I added in vintage tv (a good music channel) and CBBC/CITV/CBeebies (off air after 7); so I haven't checked them but they are easy to add if they aren't correct.
If you look at the list of all of the channels then you'll see quite a few more than in the last list so pick and choose as you need. I've set up a few favourite lists as I use them but again, your mileage may vary.
I'd suggest resetting your box to factory settings and then loading these in. And remember, my default setting is timeshift 'off' so if you use that then you will need to go to the menu option and enable it again.
    Enjoy!

Does anyone know is it possible to playback programs recorded on the Arivia 150 on a laptop, what format are they recorded in?

VLC handles this well, as it does most video formats. It's a free download and doesn't have any nagware or spyware. Get it from the source videolan.org.

I checked that setting and it is set to Switch off. I did a test last night and this morning the box still had REC on it and it was stuck on the channel that was being recorded last night. Needed to power off to get it going again.

I wonder is it the hard disk that I'm using, its an external WD Passport drive, not powered. What type of drives do others use?

    Thanks.

Well now, left something recording last night and found today that the box was still on. It should have switched off and the setting is as such. I'm using latest 1.21B6 so tried factory reset, dropping back to 1.21B4 and no luck.

What it is is that it only switches off after recording based on a timer event NOT if you just start recording on the fly. I'm fairly sure that this used to work before but not definite. So a bug in latest code? But Finn Dub, I think this explains what you were seeing.

    Hi All,

I have bought and set up 3 Ariva 150's and so far so good.
One problem I am having though is I can't seem to get some of the sat channels that I think should be there such as:
    1)True movies 1+2
    2)Challenge
    3)Men&Movies
    4)CBS action/drama/reality
    and some others

The box seems to find these channels but say's there scrambled.

I've tried everything I can think of..and no luck (I must be doing something wrong here!)

If anyone has any ideas or help it would appreciated.

    Thanks

Yes its distinguishing between 28.2 and 28.5 in the software. A simple fix.

Go into installation menu, pick satellite setup. Stick a heart beside Eurobird 1 28.5 (its now called Eutelsat 28A but its called Eurobird1 on the box) . Manually scan the frequencies for those channels you are missing on Eurobird 1 (rather than auto scanning which will produce loads of multiples to the ones on Astra2). Heres the frequencies > http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A.html

You will be able to add your missing channels from the Eurobird 1 sat list to your master list.

They need to merge that bloody satellite with Astra 2 in the software.

    Hi Guys

Apologies if this has been asked before I'm new to sat tv but when I try to record anything on my ariva 150 combo i.e. Sat or FTA channels I can't change channels any longer it seems to freeze all other channels . I have a TB Hard Drive connected and my recording works fine but its of no use if I want to watch other channels. I read somewhere I can only record either one sat or one fta channel and still be able to watch another but having no luck so far

    Any help greatly appeciated.

    Barry

This is normal Barry, you can only do the following:

Record one Satellite , watch Terrestrial
    Record Terrestrial, watch one Satellite

Thanx for the quick response Tony

But I can't watch anything only the channel thats Recording can't even change channels everything else freezes surely this isn't normal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Sorry guess I missed what you meant. You should still be able to view terrestrial channels ie RTE if you have an aerial connected and you have scanned in terrestrial channels.

Maybe the size of the hard drive is a little large and this may be the cause of the problem.

Hi ya tuned in the terrestial channels and they work fine but still can't access them or any other channels while recording.......just changed my hard drive to a smaller one and still have the same problem. Would it have anything to do with my PVR settings and Timeshift you think?

I don't think so. Are you recording channels within a favourite group? I've found that once you start recording whilst in a group you can't get out of that group.
I'll have a chance in a while to try it myself and I'll let you know what I find.

Tried recording outside of fav groups as well still nothing unfor ..ok I'll wait up to hear from you so

    thanx again

Okay just tried it very quickly.
I have a favourite group that has all the main terrestrial & satellite channels. Hit the record button whilst on one of the satellite channels and after a sec you get the recording info bar up. If I now hit the OK button (middle mouse button) I see the group of channels with the recording channel in red.
I can now select one of the terrestrial channels and it plays okay.
Selecting another satellite channel doesn't work except under some restricted circumstances. I forget the terminology ferguson use, something like semi-twin tuner, but basically if you are recording one satellite channel you can watch another channel on the same transponder. Don't worry too much about that it's too restrictive to be really useful.

So try that and see how you go. By the way, what firmware are you using? I'm using latest 1.21B6. You can find the version from the menu options.

Thanx PatchZ thats works now ......

I had a Favourite Group with my Sat and Terrestials (I thought) but they were subscription channels with the $ sign beside them so thats why I couldn't record one and view the other . Anyway I deleted the Irish $ channels and tranferred over my Saorview channels I can now record one and and watch another so everything is working fine now. Hope its not all too confusing for everybody . Btw upgraded the new software last week

Great quick respone from yourself and Tony much appreciated as I was off work today and needed to get this sorted to give my head some peace. In the good books now as well so Happy Days !! ha ha

    Many Thanx again

    Barry :pac:

    Glad it works for you.
Just a note on recording. Don't try to play any recordings while making a recording. I tried this and, although the channel stays red and it looks like it's still recording, it isn't.

Well, new version popped up today; 1.22B5. As usual, no idea what changes are in there (really wish they'd sort that out). All I can say so far is that it works.

So did up a new channel list on Eurobird plus terrestrial for anyone interested in avoiding the slog. Funny how many TPs are missing on Eurobird. Quite a few needed to be entered manually but there you go.

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/xlis8ajv9yht6py/Ariva150_122B5_Edit1.abs

    Edit: Meant to mention
    1. I took out all of the rubbish (imho) channels so you can always add them back in if you need.
    2. My default is timeshift OFF as I just use a USB stick most of the time. If you use a harddisk you might want to switch it back on.
    3. The default now is clock OFF when in standby. This is the low-power mode. If you have clock ON then you use more power. And...the USB is active all the time.

    Hi,

I have a problem with an Ariva 150. Recently I can only view RTE1 on Saorview but none of the other Irish channels. The channel ID's come up but it says no signal. All the sat channels are fine.
I connected another saorview TV to the aerial and all Irish channels are fine.

    Anyone had this problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Aidan.

    Have you tried rescanning?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭PatchZ

Did you try a re-scan of the saorview channels?

Edit: crossed replies with thetechguy :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Its a good idea to delete the saorview channels first before re scanning in this type of scenario.

Thanks All for the prompt replies.

Yes. I rescanned and found the missing channels.
The ones I "lost" were on a different channel (722000/8m)
RTE1 was on Mullaghanish 474000/8m which is where I found the lost channels.

    Sorry I'm not too technical.

    Thanks again,

    Aidan.
