Took out the OB1 this morning...
Got it back recently after it had to go back to get the bezel insert replaced as there was a small defect on it from the factory

Just curious, does the paperwork come with warnings about misusing it..? I read somewhere that the fine is eye watering, for activating it in error, in the US.

    Is it the same globally?

That "may" have been the case many years ago when the frequency that it transmitted on was actually monitored in an emergency situation, but over the last few years and certainly today I would think there would be very little chance of being fined for an accidental misuse of it. The new version of the emergency just launched at baselworld now transmits on a different frequency.

Rightyo, I'm clueless. A watch that may possibly come with a warning and which transmits something on a frequency. I vaguely think I once read something about this a long time ago but I forget.

    Any details?

    http://gizmodo.com/breitling-emergency-ii-a-satellite-distress-signal-on-487271786
Breitling's original Emergency watch first launched back in 1995 and was able to broadcast a distress signal on the 121.5 MHz analog band allowing ships, planes, and other vehicles to track it. But if your approximate location wasn't already known, it made locating the signal a bit tricky. So Breitling is introducing an upgraded version of the watch—the Emergency II—that adds the ability to send a distress signal to satellites circling overhead, so no matter where on Earth you're lost, you can be found.

Good evening, long time lurker, first time poster. I didn't mean to buy a watch this evening. But anyway, by way of introduction, today I am wearing253868.JPG

But tomorrow I'll be wearing ZjkyMWNjNWRkYWU5NzgzN2MwMGMzYTE1ZDMyN2U2M2LdFkgEmAYa8orCYUHLiNhBaHR0cDovL21lZGlhLmFkc2ltZy5jb20vODJmMTEwNjA0ZmVkN2MxMmEwMGY2ZDVjYmE5NmEwODI1NmQ3Yzc4Y2IyNGYwZTRkZWMwNTQ0ZmRlMjU5NDY1Ni5qcGd8fDUyNXx8fHx8aHR0cDovL3d3dy5hZHZlcnRzLmllL3N0YXRpYy9pL3dhdGVybWFyay5wbmd8fGh0dHA6Ly93d3cuYWR2ZXJ0cy5pZS9zdGF0aWMvaS9ub25lLWltYWdlLmpwZ3w=.jpg thanks to Kintaro Hattori. I think I've been hooked!

The watch came with a briefcase of bits and pieces. There is a warning tag that is removed when you first wear it, which states that the wearer must have agreed to the terms of use prior to removal.

Although the frequency is no longer monitored, if the emergency services know you have an emergency (family member who reported you missing or what have you, telling them), then they can switch to that frequency to find you.

I'm enjoying this a lot. It's really unsophisticated in its styling but that's part of the appeal and I enjoy the geek angle of it being powered by light. It was €70 odd well spent.

+1.....really nice looking timepiece. Do you mind if I ask what the build quality of the parnis is like? Also did you purchase from their website? They seem quite reasonable money wise?

    Thanks again

Just checked the website as well, ninety bucks, seems like great value.

Anyone have any idea how durable they are, would they be on par with Seiko (great watches for everyday wear and they can take a bit of a banging about)?

    Thanks

I bought a parnis a few mobths back. Nice looking watch but had to return after a day. Date wouldnt adjust. Reading online, it can be hit or miss with them. Just get a seller on the bay with a good rating and if u get a lemon u can return it

Here you are the best I could do with my phone. I got this from www.manbushijie.com, I think I paid about $80.00 for it. I can not remember nor find where i got the strap.
I wear it most days and it works great minutes and hours.

I've read that the power reserve can be a bit funny too. They're a gorgeous looking watch though. Doubt they'd be up to Seiko quality.

Have to agree. One i ordered was really nice. Replaced it with a seiko snk803 with the refund. The seiko is definitely better quality

That's where I got mine too, it seems a reliable place.

Oddly, it was how good the power reserve acted that made me keep mine. The rotor is a little on the noisy side but it charges almost immediately, i can leave it aside for days, and just the act of picking it up again has it ticking. Bought it on a whim and wasn't going to keep it but, once I replaced the strap (which was stiff and uncomfortable) I honestly can't fault it.

I agree, i have found the power reserve to be great, I don't notice the rotor at all. I have another automatic which would wake the dead alright .
he watch keeps great time for the price, I am very happy with it. This is the one watch that always gets a comment.

    Did I? :D

Decided to give my second manual winder a run out: been wearing for the past week. Probably the perfect sized watch for my wrists.

Bullseye1, may I ask you to give more details on your watch above?

Threw the Ikarus back on today after a few weeks in the box...love the weight and feel of this watch and the strap is just so comfortable

Not the best pic but here's today's daily beater ...

    fk7dw6.jpg

It's a quartz, bought in Gent, Belgium, from a lovely flemish guy who promised to fly over to Dublin to fix it if anything went wrong... and straight faced pointed out the features, the time, date, day/night indicator ... sadly not through any gps, atomic clock wizardry but the more mundane "it's after 6" variety... :)

Still like this a lot, apart from the nice associations of a lovely little city, it's 42mm diameter with a solid heft and remains fairly clean despite the redundancy of that night/day thing.

Generally I'm not a fan of TAG design, but that's a damn fine looking timepiece LL. Really like the dial layout.
