    Just saw this on twitter

    April 15: Titanic Sunk
    April 15: Hillsborough Disaster
    April 15: Lincoln's assassination
    April 15: Boston Bombing

Most days of the year have a number of historical events associated with them. Nothing particularly special about today really.

Working the whole day in the dungeons so didn't hear anything, hope the families affected get some clarity soon. Devastating. Hope any boardsies running are safe and sound.

Anyone who doesn't fancy seeing a lot of blood should avoid Sky News, helicopter shot with a fairly big bloody area on the ground.

Sadly, Sky tends to cream its pants over stuff like this. :(

In fairness they are now 4 big "events" all on the same day.

Dow Jones down by 2% following the explosions

I don't get the people trying to one up others in this thread in some sort of demonstration of their superior sense on humanity.

The vast majority of people are showing an outbreak of empathy and remorse towards the victims and to start nit picking like this at this time is quite sad.

Ive been keeping an eye on the Athletics forum, they seem to be ok, but shocked, needless to say.

i spent a few summers in Boston while in college, and i always found it a great city. so sad.
but rest assured the perpetrator(s) will be caught.
i dnt think Mass. has the death penalty, does it?

Just saw a video of the explosion going off.
Certainly not a military or industrial explosive.
Looks more like black powder device, maybe a home-made pipebomb or such.
    Lone-nut cannot be ruled out.
A similar attack happened at the Atlanta Olympics site.
Deliberately trying to kill civilians is indefensible.

    Very very sad situation

Has the exact location of the second blast been mentioned? Which store/hotel on Boylston Street etc?

Guys, I really don't mean this in a mean way at all, but will this weaken the Dollar in the Euro-Dollar exchange rate?

Do you deliberately come on threads just to admonish other posters? If you have your own opinions, state them - no need to try and shame others for their opinions all the time.

Of course anyone's death in such a situation is a tragedy, but a life just having started out on it's journey to be snuffed out like that adds an extra sort of poignancy. It doesn't diminish the death of anyone else.

The endless nit-picking in this thread is tiresome....

    Well, stop nitpicking, then. Gahhh.

It's horrible and sickening, no victim has a monopoly on the tragedy of it all.

The only two 24 hours I've ever seen are Sky and the BBC, and the Beeb would be nowhere near as bad. I'm sure other ones are though.

Maybe for a day or so.

I'm not here bitching about it because no one forced me to click, but I can't get that horrific picture that was posted here of the guy who lost his legs in the blast. I just can't get it out of my head! is he alive? and would his life even be worth living now? Sometimes I feel a bit untouched or perhaps even removed by global news, but that really hit home to me how tragic and cruel life can be

Initial tests describe it as small and crude, no high grade.

There's a massive market for it, so it'll continue to be prevalent until people don't watch it any more. Mass media coverage of this kind of stuff only plays into the hands of the perpetrators
