Are you sure they were talking about this incident? I'm sure ordinary criminals are still doing their thing right now, and the scanner isn't dedicated to those dealing with the attack.

Given how quickly the fbi got there, I'm sure it was related

It was mentioned that they were waiting for the "JTT" to start interrogations.

"JTT" is presumably the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

And I'd guess there are protocols to clear the airwaves of unrelated noise in these type of situations and use other frequencies.

I don't know Boston well enough to recognise the park.

Could be Maine for all I know.

It's Boston Common, big downtown park about 10-15 mins (max) from the finish line.

The Boston police scanner has said several times they have someone in custody

I'm sure they have but is probably completely unrelated to the explosions.

You're dead right. The jtt and fbi would definitely be taking time away from a bombing for something unrelated

i do think Obama's immediate response has been far more intelligent and measured that that clown Bush after 911.
mind you a demented and hormonal chimpanzee would have reacted more intelligently than Bush.

agreed, but a child's death/murder in such circumstances is beyond words.

This just saddens me so much, this is becoming far too frequent.

Regardless of the death count which if one or more, is too high, the casualties are often the ones that don't even end up being a statistic, just the person that lost a limb, an eye or even a relative. Some sick people out there...

I'm actually amazed that the US police forces radios aren't encrypted.
In Europe (even in Ireland) they use digital encrypted radio these days. Just very surprised you can use 'scanners' at all.

They did have encrypted channels alright - was a number of warnings over the scanner about the channel they were on being an open channel

I don't honestly understand what they're hoping to achieve by murdering innocent civilians like this, all they'll do is make people lose whatever little respect they might have had for whatever "grievance" they're avenging.

    Scum.

The fact that it was at a marathon, and at the finishing line, a place were you least expect any sort of trouble like this makes it more of a sickener.

Lots of pictures are appearing online, the injuries are vicious. Especially that guy in the wheelchair with his legs gone.

Absolutely devastating atrocity. Hope they find who perpetrated this and they're brought to justice.

Don't get that logic, myself. It wouldn't be sick if the victims were just adults?

Do you deliberately come on threads just to admonish other posters? If you have your own opinions, state them - no need to try and shame others for their opinions all the time.

Of course anyone's death in such a situation is a tragedy, but a life just having started out on it's journey to be snuffed out like that adds an extra sort of poignancy. It doesn't diminish the death of anyone else.

The endless nit-picking in this thread is tiresome....

A White House official speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still unfolding said the attack was being treated as an act of terrorism.

You're the one claiming that it couldn't be domestic terrorist. He cited an example and you post an example of a foreign terror attack to counter that? Astounding logic.

Yes but the death of an 8 year old boy is more tragic than that of say an 80 year old.

This just sickens me. Not only have the scum behind this killed people but they have also caused people who have attempted to reach the peak of their physical prowess to lose their limbs. Execution is too good for those scum

I'm not doubting it, just not gonna believe it until it's officially reported on.

The scanners are undedicated.. all channels which are dealing with the operative side of investigations and so on would be dedicated to a particular frequency and encrypted.

Someone in a station wouldn't be using the base radio to update people about the arrival of the FBI to interview a suspect. What you hear on the available freqs can be very disjointed and out of context.
