List of injuries from one hospital: leg trauma, age 9; femur fracture, age12; head injury, age2; head injury, age14; leg trauma, age10

Jesus Christ. Can only imagine the amount of kids there to cheer on their mam or dad at the finish line, what should be an incredible moment. Just sickening.

The thing I can't get out of my head is that the Sandy Hook families (parents of the children who died in the shooting) were at the finish line. Mile 26 was dedicated to the children because 26 children died. There were even a group of the parents running for charity. How many horrifying experiences do they have to go through in their lifetime?

Would imagine that is what they actually planned, people running from the first explosion, get caught in the second. Was that not the tactic (for lack of a better word) in the Dublin bombings ?

Thats what I was thinking - having two that far apart would be designed to injure more than kill

26 for 26 was the slogan, this seemed to be an attack on the spectators rather than the athletes

    That was a Reuters source

Apparently according to eyewitness, smell of cordite was in the air after the explosions - twice in the last few minutes on the scanner officers were warned of an open mic.

temporary no flight zone just above the bomb site, but will not affect flights

It mentioned it on BBC that a press conference was due shortly, plus I heard it on the scanner about 30 mins ago about someone doing the press

Authorities questioning person of interest in Marathon bombings at Brigham and Women's Hospital according to the Boston Globe

Ive switched off the scanner but I heard her saying about the open mic. What does that mean? I thought it was that 1 cop had left his mic on? Is it something else?

    Cordite is gunpowder, is it?

Best read the link. It's more to do with what's considered worthy of our time, grief, anger and opinions.

    It's not a competition, btw. Just a reminder. :(

Its a common enough tactic - the slugs that were responsible for Omagh, did the same. It guarantees maximum carnage.

Whoever is responsible for this are vile, vile demonic bastards.

This is ****ing sickening! Sick bastards why do they like hurting innocent people? So frustrating! What do they accomplish by killing and injuring these people? Not a ****ing thing!

The explosives had to have been packed with something like ball bearings to cause vicious injuries like that.
Ball bearing were found strewn across the street.

Murder, terrorism and fear is usually the first objectives on their agendas ... they have already achieved that .

The twitter machine has gone into overdrive - one source claiming x, the next claiming y. Very difficult to get reliable info.

That didn't happen in Omagh actually.
    But way off topic.

My heart goes out to the poor victims of this, just enjoying a family day out.

Thoughts and prayers with Boston tonight.

Bad as it was, it was designed to be so much worse. There could have been 10 times the casualties.

Twitter accounts like that are run by absolute pricks. Piggybacking a celeb with their handle and now a tragedy by tweeting pics for cheap RTs and follows.

Really wish they weren't given the time of the day

An open mic means that a mic button is sticking on on one of the mics and interfering with others communicating.
