Jesus, it's awful. We've a lot of close family in Boston, so were particularly worried when the reports started coming in. It's probably the friendliest place I've been to, horrible to see the footage.

It's a miracle so few people have been killed, I just hope that figure doesn't rise much higher.

Can imagine people in air over states at this moment are bit uneasy at reports of these events

Yes but the death of an 8 year old boy is more tragic than that of say an 80 year old.

Not if it's my 80 year old ma, it isn't. For example.

Can we just agree that all the deaths of this whatever it was, are sad and tragic?

Just saw a video of the explosion going off.
Certainly not a military or industrial explosive.
Looks more like black powder device, maybe a home-made pipebomb or such.
    Lone-nut cannot be ruled out.
A similar attack happened at the Atlanta Olympics site.
Deliberately trying to kill civilians is indefensible.

Yeah i'd agree with you. But to have left multiple devices probably at least a pair of them in on it.

    Very very sad situation

Has the exact location of the second blast been mentioned? Which store/hotel on Boylston Street etc?

According to CNN btw an Irish company called "Disaster Tech Lab" have been involved in trying to help deal with the fallout.

I'm not here bitching about it because no one forced me to click, but I can't get that horrific picture that was posted here of the guy who lost his legs in the blast. I just can't get it out of my head! is he alive? and would his life even be worth living now? Sometimes I feel a bit untouched or perhaps even removed by global news, but that really hit home to me how tragic and cruel life can be

wish i never clicked on it either :( he lost both now

I don't think anyone was saying that.

Darko is. Anyway, I fear the thread is going around in circles.

It's tragic, it's horrible - we don't know what's behind it, people are angry and bewildered and emotions are high.

I need sleep. Hopefully we will have more of an idea about the situation tomorrow.

    Take care.

The only two 24 hours I've ever seen are Sky and the BBC, and the Beeb would be nowhere near as bad. I'm sure other ones are though.

BBC are different. They're a national broadcaster unreliant on ad revenue - whereas Sky and other networks would be.

    Mod

You are really close to a ban. Stop doing what you and I know you are doing. It is obvious and silly.

There is *literally* nobody arguing with you on that point.

I can tell you from experience it is not a pleasent experience - I was in the air just about the time that Bush decided to bomb Afghanistan, we were one of the last aircraft near that airspace. Saw it on the screen on CNN seeing that he had started on 7 October.

Lot of people offering their homes to those stranded in Boston

    i disagree
an 80 year old has had a good innings, whereas an 8y year old has their whole like stolen from them.
    not comparable at all imo.

    Not necessarily.
Two or three small devices hidden in a thermos flask or water bottle, is pretty easy to a determined individual.

Not going to get dragged into some ridiculous argument over this. You are quite clearly trying to stir up argument for the sake of it.

You said it, we're all too desensitized to news of bombing incidents. That photo, while horrific, helps bring home the awful carnage inflicted by bombs.

I just hope the guy survived, of course his life will be different but no less worth living because of it!!

Heard that the figure was much higher, around 60 or 70, hopefully your report is more accurate. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more fatalities from it - though if someone was looking to do more damage, they'd have both of the bombs much closer together, so that when people went in to help those injured in the first one would be caught in the second one.

Latest casualty toll is 2 dead, 105 injured, 15 critically

60-70 amputees and only (sorry) 2 or 3 dead would be pretty amazing tbh.

Would imagine that is what they actually planned, people running from the first explosion, get caught in the second. Was that not the tactic (for lack of a better word) in the Dublin bombings ?

i do think Obama's immediate response has been far more intelligent and measured that that clown Bush after 911.
mind you a demented and hormonal chimpanzee would have reacted more intelligently than Bush.

In fairness, as bad as this is, it's no where near as mental as 9/11. What went on that day was beyond belief.

The explosives had to have been packed with something like ball bearings to cause vicious injuries like that.
