Thanks. Great read. I am all over barcade if I go to New York. What a great business idea. I'm glad it's not here, I'd never be out of it.

Will go on a street fighter pilgrimage to Chinatown fair too :-)

Was in Barcade in Brooklyn myself last Summer with one of the HG101 guys and my mates. Had a great time. It's a great pub and not just because of the arcade machines which are fantastic. The beer there is all craft beer and they also do cask beers as well which are only available for limited times. Also make sure you try the beef jerky they sell there it's amazing even if it's ridiculously hot. A tactic that developed during the night was shoving beef jerky in the mouth of whoever was playing at the time to put them off (oh er matron).

There's also one in Jersey about an hour and a half away which supposedly has a better selection of games, I was meant to go for a HG101 meet up but ended up drinking elsewhere.

I really wanted to stop by the last time I was over there. Didn't have time in the end.

It's in Williamsburg right? Is it full of hipsters?

Mods: This is a really interesting discussion, but it's got feck all to do with retro games. Should we move it to it's own thread, or can we just carry on messing up this one?:D

The issue of HMV, especially as it relates to gamers and those who still have vouchers, is relevant to pretty much everyone.
I have no issue with it on this thread and won't be moving anything anywhere, not for the moment anyway.

As a quick reminder, this forum is Arcade & Retro Games, with HMV being a major source of various formats releases of arcade titles, like Rising Star and G.Rev shmups, Fighters and the like, so a major player on bringing these niche titles to us is of paramount importance.

Theyre opening one in manhattan apparently. Much more central location.

Williamsburg, isn't that where 2 Broke Girls is set... or so I here.... I can't help it! My wife loves it and I get to admire Kat Dennings for 20 minutes!

I wonder if the Rez Vibration Pack has been disinfected, or just given a quick wipe?

Love the DK N64 controller, better than the game!
Also want the 3DO SF2 controller, cool device for a great version of the game.

I was in Williamsburg once for a couple of hours. I was only twenty at the time, but I was able to blag my way into Brooklyn bars because the reversed Irish date on my passport. We went to see a !!! concert, because nothing says hipster like a band whose name is unpronounceable to the casual observer. They played for like thirty relatively decent minutes and then walked off stage with nary an encore. If I was pitchfork I'd have given the gig 9.7/10.

    So yeah, video games eh?

Only a true hipster would be sarcastic about being a hipster.

Chk Chk Chk is the official enunciation, which probably doesn't clear anything up. I think that's the point?

Yeah they're like my favourite band. You've probably never heard of them. I've never even heard of them because nobody can pronounce their name.

I actually don't really like them that much. Catchy enough I suppose. We wanted to head to a gig and they were the only band playing we'd ever heard of, but there are vastly superior Williamsburg hipster bands. Probably their greatest achievement is being the hardest band to search for on search engines. Here's a very hipster video of theirs. Hipster haircuts and pants all over the gaff. Hipster!

According to the Oxford English dictionary, a hipster is someone who likes something because most people haven't heard of it, regardless of merit (although pretension is better), but will dislike it as soon as most people have heard of it.

They also wear tight pants and ridiculous accessories.

Synonyms include scenester. Observable hipster habitats include Williamsburg, the offices of Pitchfork Media or Vice Magazine, Urban Outfitters / American Apparel and Girls concerts.

    Lol wut?

How in the fook did you come across that if such a thing even exists? Oh and love the "north" reference like that makes it a bit more normal. You wouldn't want to be seen to like that crazy "west" African folk reggae rap... :pac:
