All the films and TV shows talk about lobster as one of the greatest and most expensive things you can order in a restaurant

    One day I'll get it.

Oysters just never appealed to me. Slimy and you slide them straight down your neck. Plus I always hear of food poisonings and food scares regarding same. Never had one.

Never tasted a ready made sandwich cos don't like butter or mayo or coleslaw.

    steak generally refers to beef

Ive never understood people who wont try any food they can get their hands on, picky eaters, the Irish are very guilty of this, probably because we have no food culture to speak of and food has traditionally been seen as fuel or soakage and nothing else.

the list is too long, basically I've never had anything weird looking.

Calamari is the only weird looking thing I've ever had, bought it out of a van in Howth. It was pretty good.

You do know one can eat beef steak which is far nicer than pork steaks.

One think I just cannot stand is oysters. Tried them numerous times raw but just cant get them to stay down. Baked no problem but raw is like eating snot

No didn't know that! Just avoid all red meat now... Even the smell of it raw makes me gag.

Try the Rocky mountain ones. Much nicer.

    I can't stand oysters either. I can't think of a food I haven't tasted, though. I'm a glutton.

Ah, on Masterchef the Professionals recently the contestants had to prepare a sea urchin. I've never had that and I wouldn't, either. It looked disgusting and from the sounds of things isn't the most subtle of flavours.

I had foie gras soup at a Michelin starred place once, it was absolutely horrible and was the only thing I left untouched after one taste. I even ate the raw oyster that was disguised as a tasty thing but that soup was beyond my limits.

Edit: ^ ordered a "potent surprise" in a Greek restaurant between three of us earlier this year. Slim little slivers of something vaguely meaty in a lemon and thyme sauce. Goat testicles. Flippin' lovely they were too. We demolished them!

On my few trips to China I have tried everything that was put in front of me.
Some surprisingly tasty foods look disgusting.

One thing I didn't try was Sea Sausages or sea cucumber both of which look disgusting but are expensive delicacies in China, maybe next time!

Almost everything off a chinese menu, apart from curries and ribs.

I'm not the worst for trying things. I haven't eaten a huge amount of foods which I would deem as unbearably rancid either.

Being made taste Vegemite by an Aussie would be up there however. I simply cannot see how any one would enjoy it. It tastes like a mouthful of salt-water and leaves you with this horrible acrid gel on your gums for hours. :(

Fussy eaters annoy the hell out of me. My mother is fussy, drives me nuts. I think Irish people are super fussy with food compared to others, so many people don't eat fish or seafood and we're an island.

Did you ever try a Century Egg? That's one of the few foods I've heard of that I'd definitely draw the line at.

What difference does it make to you... You can still eat what you want... Isn't that all that matters?

Technically that should the case, but it's a funny thing about humans that people's character traits can sometimes grate on you

Extremely overrated, imo. Strong umami flavour. My partner loves them, I don't get the fuss.

Baked Alaska, Eggs Benedict or Beef Wellington, would love to try all three!

Love food, not a fussy eater at all but my ma is a terrible cook and so i never learned :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭Lingua Franca

I learned because my ma is a terrible cook! All three of the above are easy enough to cook as well, you should have a go!

There's not much I haven't eaten bar really exotic animals. I'd try anything. I've even eaten dog food - doesn't taste as good as it smells.
