Madness. Here's a new version of the console we don't support anymore!

I was hoping for a Wii XL.

That was rumoured a few months back, but I thought it was someone having a laugh. Absolute insanity.

To the Nintendo marketing team - don't you already have a new console to be pushing? No? Can't remember? WiiU

On a side note, it's bound to be a rare console in a few years. Might be worth an investment if they're going cheap.

The best selling console of this generation is going to be rare in a few years? As rare as an NES?

No, the square re-release might be..if it does in deed get released. Think about it, who the hell is going to buy one ;)

Ahh sorry picked that up wrong, never mind so. :P

It does look kind of nice. But size was never really an issue for the Wii, so it's kind of pointless. Especially as the WiiU is backwards compatible.

The new Wii's won't play GC games either.

That's what I was thinking. Nobody in their right mind will buy it to actually play it, so you can be guaranteed it wont be around for any long production runs, plus look at how difficult it is to find something like a Baby SNES nowadays.

I really can't see a reason to own one though, apart from the possibility that it will be rare in a couple of decades.

The Wii is a popular console, which in the future is going to be a really collectable one with all the niche games for it. (The games, not the bog standard console)

New console variant released when 1st party developer isn't making any new games + successor already released means nobody will buy one.

Nobody buying one will make them rare.

Popular collectable console + rarity = value.

All depends on the price if it does indeed get released. I wouldn't mind getting a jap one if they're released over there to play imports.

Canada only and no internet access.
Shame, it looks quite lovely and I prefer top loaders.

Well I just gave away pop n' twinbee. I've a twinge of regret but I know who I sent it to will enjoy it.

Disclaimer: I hope nobody is expecting pop n' twinbee as a secret santa because you'll be disappointed :P ).

    Bugger....

And, regarding the Wee Wii, the original device did have a flaw that caused the GPU to flake out due to the hotel produced by whatever pixies they had running the Connect24 service, effectively killing the machine.
I lost my original Wii to this under reported malady.
A new console with a solid redesign could well outlast all other variants also be worth the price.
If it turns out to be easily softmodded it'll be a must have.
Imagine a decent version of Mame on it, could be a perfect little machine.

This. Plus the Gameboy Micro was released in similar circumstances and I remember everyone laughing n work at how pointless they were. Just wish this mini played GC games :(

Yep! and do you remember when they were being sold off dirt cheap? Hopefully the same thing happens with this.

Consoles stopped being well designed a generation ago

Hmmm...does the new version have any USB ports? It might be still online capable with the ethernet adaptor.

The Wii has memory problems with mame. It doesn't have the memory to load bigger roms and it can take over an hour to load more modern (think late 80's when I say that) games.

Says this is only being released in Canada (costing 99.99 CAD)

I would say Nintendo are testing out the market for it - to which they will find out it isn't selling and will probably scrap the idea.

Adding up to be a future rare console alright.

I wonder what it would cost to have one sent here

It's been bugging me trying to think what console the colour scheme reminded me of. All this talk of collectable consoles has jogged my memory:

I'm really tempted. Apart from the whole future value thing, they're really cool looking. Far nicer than the standard Wii. I really like the matt textured finish to the black.

It's now up on the Canada Nintendo site

Think I might have to get one of these sent to me.

I would predict that it might fail so future rarity if it does :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Really odd that its Canada only. Would have thought they'd release it in Japan too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Although for $99 Canadian (€77) and add on say another €30 for postage, it's looking like a purchase for me.

I reckon adverts will be the big fish I that particular pond by 2045, far outstripping eBay.
