That's not the remote that comes with the TV. I'm pretty sure it will be exactly the same as the one I just got using the same innards from china.

The mirai is fixed on the wall, my idiot brother threw away the stand which is why they took the LG.

I was looking at that - can't quite see an aspect ratio button though.

Pretty sure it's just going to be the same remote I have already. There's more expensive programmable remotes but they cost about 70 euros. I might remove pin 8 and see if it works. Can always solder it back on.

Well it will work, but your going to be losing RGB & it'll be replaced with composite quality dirt. I did the same thing for my 3rd party Gamecube 'RGB' cable as in RGB mode it was all oversaturated

Why not get a decent and cheap Sony Trinitron with remote off Adverts? Few decent ones here: http://www.adverts.ie/for-sale/q_sony+trinitron/

The flat screen silver 21" ones look like the one I got. Great tv and easy to rotate if you want to play proper shmups. :P

Thinking of picking up an old iMac g4 for use mainly as a mame machine. Any ideas what it'd be like and what kind of games I could run on it? Was reading somewhere that'd it'd run most games up until the mid 90's with the exception of some 3D games. Thinking of this one:

Aside from Mame you could run Starship Titanic (Douglas Adams was the ultimate Mac supporter), where you will inevitably get annoyed by the fiendishly obtuse puzzles and just start elaborate insult matches with the robot barman instead.

Is the processor speed and amount of RAM not a bit on the scabby side?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

It is a bit slow but the ram is upgradeable to 2gb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

There's also this one with 1ghz processor.

Johnny_U or some of the other Mac users probably be better to help here. Know bugger all about them other than those specs sounded a bit weak, even if it's just going to be a Mame pc.

Why are you going for a Mac anyway? Like the look of it? Is there even a Mac OS/Linux version of Mame?

Apparantly they're pretty decent for mame alright. Nice way to get a mame unit & CRT all in one.

It's been a while since I put MAME on my Mac, but it is inevitably more painful to setup than the Windows version. You'll have to use a separate front end programme to get it running properly (I don't use it much, but MAME OS X works when I need it to), and even then it won't be as reliable as Windows. It is doable, but I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you much about older Macs or versions of OSX. Still, at 70-100 euro, you can't go far wrong and should be able to do something with a bit of effort!

And now for something completely different... brilliant game / FIFA themed music video, directed by the crazy Peter Serafinowicz.

My plan of selling my excess stuff in the last few weeks in order to get some US Snes bits has hit a major snag or should I say pillar.
I crashed a rental van into the stone pillar of the entrance gate doing massive damage to the side door and I have to cover the excess.
So had to transfer my PayPal funds today and delete all the watched items in eBay.
Knights of the round, contra, mystical ninja, bust a move, super bonk, breath of fire, mario rpg, rock n roll racing and final fantasy 3 are just some of the games I won't be playing until some time next year.
Won't be posting a get until for ages like.

Ah sh1t man, thats dreadful. If one were to find a positive note in it though, at least you will appreciate them all the more when you get your hands on them!

    I suppose. :(

Some twat was burning rubbish behind the house but I wasn't aware at the time. I though the house was on fire and we were moving out that day, so was a bit panicked about my games and stuff as that's all that was left really.
So another positive could be that the games didn't burn in a fire.
Also got Chrono Trigger before the incident.
Also the only thing that got hurt was my pride. The van was too big for me and I couldn't handle it, my girlfriend helpfully pointed out.

Sorry to hear of your accident,
the most important thing is that no one was hurt or injured, aside from your pride!

Everything else can wait a little while longer, sure some of your gets are over 20 years old, a few months more won't be too bad.

Yep, like the look of the G4 mac and because it's all in one it shouldn't take up too much space either. There is indeed a version of mame available on mac.

That's what I'm hoping for! Won't be making it into a cab or anything, just want to have something set up that's just for mame.

    Damn that is ****ty. :(
On a nostalgic note, Knights of the round is the most memorable arcade game from my childhood... what a game!?
Playing the snes version is just not the same at all. I'm guessing they were very different.

Anyone remember a top down (well more isometric) rally game? it was mid to late 90's and I'm pretty sure it had licensed cars. Was hella fast and I remember the snow level looking gorgeous?
    EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMgLI9jnE6Y

Not as pretty as I remember but I'm 90% sure this was it :D anyone played it?

World Rally. I played the hell out of it back in the day in a local chipper, a must have for any cab

Does anyone have any idea about modding RGB cables? I just want to be sure before I make a mistake and become RGB-less.

My problem is the PoS TV I've inherited off my brother. The remote broke and I can't find a universal remote that will let me change the aspect ratio and I can't do it from the buttons on the TV.

The problem with RGB is that it sends a signal to the TV to automatically choose widescreen. I was wondering if I removed the wire connecting the pin that carried this information would I end up stopping the screen going to widescreen? I can get the original aspect ratio with composite since it doesn't automatically go to widescreen. My worry is that I think that this wire also tells the TV to engage RGB mode and I don't want to be left with a crappy composte cable.

Should have snapped up that Trinitron I had on the swap thread, alas I sold it on Saturday

Great game that used to be a cab of that in my local arcade. Easy enough game until later levels and then you better know the short cuts or the timer will be at zero before you know it.

I think Ciderdude has that on his 100 in 1 MVS cart.
