Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Im considering apply for the job but am wondering where are they going to be based? Im from Waterford so would there be any jobs going there(around that area) or are all the jobs going to be in Donegal or Dublin?

  • Registered Users Posts: 110 ✭✭medic112

Would be 100% sure that these positions would be for the new call taking & dispatch center in Tallaght when it becomes fully operational, see quote from the application:

Applicants who are successful in this campaign may be initially assigned to one of the 3 NAS Divisions as
outlined above, however, please note it is strongly anticipated in line with ongoing changes within the
Ambulance Structure that there will be a requirement that all post holders arising from this recruitment
campaign will eventually be based in the National Ambulance Service Control Centres in either
Ballyshannon, Co Donegal or Tallaght, Dublin.

Hi lads, just wondering what the major differences are between Emergency Call Taker and Emergency Medical Dispatcher?

Call Takers take the call rang in by the Public, Doctors, Fire Control etc and you process it etc.
The Dispatcher takes the address the Call Taker has put in and mobilizes the nearest Ambulance/First Responder and communicates with the crews etc.

Then at times the job is mixed up and you could be doing one one day and the other the next.

Mentally though I'd say, it'll be easy enough except trying to get addresses of foreigners, listening to some crazy bint saying she overdosed, listening to some stupid townie who wants an ambulance to st James Hospital while they're in the car park etc.

Why do you need C! and D1 licence for the dispatcher position?

This is because you need to drive the mobile control units I would say

AFAIK They are looking for 60+staff for Tallaght and 20+ for Ballyshannon, both in call taker and Dispatcher with relief etc

    NikkyF

There are loads of websites that do online typing tests if you want to try that. You could try writing down what they're getting you to type and getting someone to read it so you have the 'audio'

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 nikkyf

Thanks , But im not sure what they want us to type yet . Hopefully getting the email today .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭EMTFlynn

Nobody will know what they want us to type

Once you log in, you can't log back out and do it later.

If you get the job, you're not going to know what the public are going to call
    In with, cardaic, stroke etc.

What I'm saying is - you want to practise what will come up so go onto a typing test website and get someone to read out what you've to type for the typing test it's the only way you can really simulate what you'd be doing in this situation. The test is audio and typing - you're getting info and they want to test your speed and accuracy.

You can only do the test once, so other than that you won't get to practice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 nikkyf

Sorry i misunderstood ,Thanks will try that .

Got it and done it got as far as "Women who...." anyone better that?

Kinda annoying it doesnt give you your score or typing speed at the end though :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,128 ✭✭✭✭Oranage2

It took you 5 minutes to write women who - id say you're in the elite group - did anything come up at the end like like a word with a number between 1 and 4?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 8,486 ✭✭✭miju

Ah wouldnt say so have no way of gauging how good / bad I did as there was no number or word that came up at the end

Did you get past that part?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 BallyGMan

I remember typing the number 5 somewhere alright, as far as I am aware it shouldnt matter where you end up and long as you have good accuracy and speed and get over the min of 25wpm

    Best of Luck to every1!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭deelite

I'm going to mine tomorrow (more peaceful). Is it just straight forward typing ie., press play, listen and go - how does the speed thingy work do you keep up with the audio or does the audio keep up with you - if you get my drift?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 BallyGMan

You get a practice screen for 1 minute that i slike the real exam whereby you can pause rewind and fast forward if needed.

just keeps going regardless of how fast / slow you type. but you can pause it (timer still goes on though)

Haven't done it yet, i think i read they take the fastest typers put them in a category 1, then cat 2 and so on so when they run out of cat one people they'll move on to the second fastest people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭deelite

    Well that went brilliantly:D

Seriously though how do I know I've completed the task - I did the practice thingy (letter) for one minute then went on to the standard audio thingy for five minutes - is that it done? Do I receive confirmation that I took part etc., - slightly confused because I got 13 emails from them asking me to log onto test.

Also I went for accuracy rather than speed - so with the pausing and playing and the commas, full stops etc., I may have achieved the fab speed on 22 wpm. I think my last word was work place.

I did do a copy typing test before hand to see what speed I had and it was error free at 54 wpm -

    Best of luck guys

Just did it there, dam she speaks fast! not sure how far i got but with the amount i typed id assume 3/4's of the way through. I tried not to let my nerves get to me and cloud my brain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,641 ✭✭✭paconnors

just did it myself there, was easy enough, but i have a slight advantage, i work in a computerised taxi dispatch office, hope it helps my application

I got to "work place or force" something like that. Are we all getting the same audio or are there a few different recordings? How far did you get?

If I remember correctly I got about 2 - 3 paragraphs ahead of that. I got as far as "women who..."

Just completed it there, It's tough enough but the fact that you can pause it helps. I wrote about 4 or 5 paragraphs and got to something like "word processing" or something like that...

    Hi all
Am I doing something wrong? I accessed the test screen, which said 'press start to begin', but nothing happens when I click on Start. I have AdobeReader 11.
Did anyone else have any problem?
    Thanks

Sorry to hear that Leddpipe, but listen you never know how you really did though, and you don't know what the standard was like across the board.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 Rockbutt

    Hi Leddpipe

Was tough enough but you never know, your accuracy could be spot on. Just did it myself, my laptop could not show full screen (and would'nt reduce that page!) so had to go a Jobs Club and do it on an unfamiliar keyboard, got to 3rd para but not too happy about how I did either.

Good luck anyway! At least tis done.
