Would you be worried about giving TVR to heifers? Otherwise he's an excellent looking bull on icbf.

He,s only 7% which is not to bad i think, Did you use him yet i think ill use a bit of him this year weather on the cows or the heifers i'll wait and see.

i never heard of tvr until tonight but he has good height, taller and same muscle score as OZS at 126, 7 % calving diff is a bit high for heifers though just imo

I had difficulty with a second calver and FL25. His calving figure is slightly better than TVR. The gestation length is worth noting as well. FL25 calf was 3 weeks overdue ranking 5%. Whilst TVR isn't as bad on this, he still has a low ranking at 21%.

I don't think it's worth chancing him on heifers, particularly as his reliability figures are still low.

Thanks for highlighting him though, I may use him on some of the cows ;)

    Cheers Limo,

I glanced at that supplement to original list but never spotted him. That list came out was a bit late for Me not that I bulling them ridiculously early but my Ai man needs 2 months notice and pressurising if i want something out of the ordinary.

So, I ordered OZS early in the year for heifers, for cows ive used the ch's DEZ, LGL, PTE, BB - DEP And lim CVV is hard to beat... Despite my greatest intentions he carrying no parthenaise straws at all this year and he only deal with Munster/progressive so I can't get kilmoney Bruce from Dovea :-(

TVR is a class looking young bull but there are no calves off him yet,so really his calving difficulty means very little to me, take ERE standing in Dovea for example when he first came on the scene as a unproven lim bull out of tully, his calving figure was aout 3%,"ideal for heifers". Today this figure is at 21.79%, i have heard of a good few lads who ran into trouble wit this guy on heifers and cows.

A similar situation would be with cottage devon.

In Dovea we have found PAM to be good on heifers,

Also has anyone on here used or seen may calves of the lim bull Haltcliffe Dancer, i hear hes breeding super stuff!

You could add NHL of NCBC to the above list too. He's now 9.2% (98% rel) for calving yet only 5.4% (89% Rel) in the Dec 2011 proofs. Explain that one. I got caught out with him on a 3 year old heifer.
When it comes to heifers, only use high reliability bulls on calving. Lesson well learned here anyway.:)

Another lesson: if a heifer can't calf a good calf down at 3years of age, it's factory time ;)

She is a fine big Simmental heifer, but by HKG who happens to be in the bottom 1% for maternal calving, within breed. Never a fan of HKG, for such a widely used bull, his heifers are crap at the hips. I have her back in calf, hopefully to FL21 so maybe he'll correct that problem. I don't want to cull her. She's from a super cow. She won't be getting any Charolais straws though. That's for sure.

    @porter shark

What breed of bull is that? Maine Anjou?

he's a limousin. ODZ, an easy calver from eurogene, bought my flask there and a few straws to start me off. never got anything else from eurogene. the calf in the pic is out of a BBxBrF..... and she is the narrowest most pointed looking thing in the place. i'll be selling him next month, he'll surely cover the 500 euro i had to give for her!

HKG is 1% within breed but 10% across breed. On the converse a BB weanling heifer I have is sired by FHZ that is 28% within breed but 1% across breed! Makes me wonder should I be breeding her at all!!. EDJ is 3% within and 1% across (2 more heifers by him). Anyone with experience calving heifers by EDJ?

still trying to master this photo thing. if it works its an sfl bull calf out of lim heifer.
dunno whether to bother treating ring worm because he has started snoring and according to stories i've heard it's not really curable.

Sweet calf. Out of a heifer you say?

What's the snoring got to do with ringworm?

nothing to do with it but two mates of mine tell me that any blue they've seen to develope that snore ends up in knackery so i'm not bothering with ringworm.
i brought him to the vet when snoring started, the injection eased it for a while but didn't cure it.
