The reason I installed black hole is because of dtt issues with vix, just like 90% people posting here by the looks of it.

    90%?

The impression being given here recently is that DTT on the Duo is broken, unwatchable, unuseable, unacceptable, useless.

I can appreciate that some people are having difficulties, but at its worst, from what I believe is happening, I still don't think it warrants the amount of "bad press" it's getting here -recently more than before now for some reason (?)

Have you tried using your DTT tuner via a powered hub? Anyone notice a difference after doing that?
Hi guys getting a duo this week from the uk, seller has installed latest vix image. I have dtt on my Tv but wouldn't mind via the duo as well. What tuner should I buy and anyone recommend a supplier? How much do they cost? Also can anyone confirm if the duo will send 5.1 to my receiver via hdmi unlike my sky hd box which only sends 2.0 ? Cheers Mick

Or push the boat out and go for the Dual tuner:

You will be glad you done this whenever they start using mux 2.

    Working fine for me Tony.

Have you configured the setup for the DTT tuner?

Mine was preset up for Australia, had to change it for Europe.

If you have Play TV for the PS3 that will work too as a Dual DTT tuner.

Yeah I changed it to Europe and even tried a manual scan, just not picking up the channels even though aerial input is fine . Strange as it recognises the stick as A835 . Thanks for the reply

Can someone confirm something for me please... It is possible to use the Duo to view movie files on a pc across a shared network isn't it?

Just, whenever I try to set up a mount (am I in the right place?) to access shared folders on my main pc (Windows 7) I run into difficulties. I can access these same folders/ files on my tablet, but can't see the folders via the duo.
Anyone have any handy tips/ links for this -or basic instructions would be nice too? :)

Or put me out of my misery and tell me it's just not possible. Anything'd be better than wasting another evening faffing about with it!

Tony - I don't know if this will help you, but this was posted on another forum as a solution for the problem of Irish channels not appearing with an averTV volar HD usb tuner:
For Irish DTT, do a Full Scan (Tuned) with these settings:
    Freq. 738000000
    Band. 8Mhz
    Inversion. Auto
    Constellation QAM 64
    LP Coderate 1/2
    HP Coderate 2/3

Tony, I don't know what box you have, so I have included both ipk files for duo and uno. These are apparently a fix for the type of problem you are experiencing.
As you probably know, after install you have to reboot your box.

Please note - After downloading the files rename the files to .ipk files as I had to change them to .txt files to upload them.

    AAARRRGGGHHHH!

After muddling around with trying to get a shared folder on my pc to show up on the Duo, I've finally gone and busted it all...

My Duo won't now restart -it hangs on reboot saying "Starting..." in the console window.

Yes I've left it off overnight and still won't reboot next morning.

Yes I've reinstalled Vix (2.3GM and later -separately- 2.3.133).
This does fix the problem, in that I can setup the standard satt-channels...

but the problem happens when I try to add the DTT (Nova-T). In plugins, I select the driver named <something>700. It appears to install correctly, but at the end of the reams of install jargon there's an error -something like "module not found <something700>" (ie. the name of the driver).

If I check the list of available drivers to download a this point it is no longer there.
If I check the list of drivers available for removal it's not there either.

    ...So I reboot...

*This* is when I get back to the "Starting..." message. AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH!

I've been at it now, reinstalling, reconfiguring, etc. etc., but always gets back to "Starting..."

I've tried the Nova stick in my pc. It shows up as the Hauppage Nova-T. I don't have software installed for it so I can't do anything other than that at this time, but it's showing up correctly at least.

Perhaps all this is to teach me a lesson for asking "why use Blackhole?", but honestly it was a serious question.
Of course now I'm thinking possibly the only fix is to install Blackhole... but I would prefer to stick with Vix since I've come to understand it (a little bit) and I haven't really had any problems up to now.

So please please please... any help much appreciated. !

Thanks again for the help, box works just fine now with cross epg working no problem which was another issue I had with older image .

I had something similar after trying to setup a share, except it would take an age to boot, but would eventually. Have you removed all references to the share, on the duo and PC? Also had it happen when using a pen dive in Linux format, would happen half the time on a full restart. Cured by using FAT32. Have you tried starting with nothing attached?

Re the DTT tuner, I got that error at the end of the install too, but it works, you have to give it a full restart. The driver is no longer listed, as it is installed. I don't know why it's not available to uninstall.

As regards "Why Blackhole", at the time I got my Duo, there were drivers available for the USB tuner I had, so I went with that. I tried Vix a while ago, (pre OpenVix I think) but got a lot of spinners/green screens, so gave up.

However, after realising the settings backups I had wouldn't carry over to the latest image, I decided to give Vix another go. All good so far, except my USB pen drive keeps disappearing/unmounting, so the picons get lost/mixed up. Otherwise, happy enough:)

Thanks rurs. I'll look into your suggestions later today, asap. I started a thread on it on world of satellite here for anyone who's interested.

I did try a lot of things (including waiting hours for it to start up), but I'll try to be methodical in re-doing things. The latest suggestion on that link -bootflash/ image flash/ online update sounds hopeful. But then I get hopeful every time I get any suggestion and so far it's only been dashed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 651 ✭✭✭Gunther_Gloop

I finally managed to fix it (with great help from the world of satellite forum) by re-flashing the bootloader and installing the latest Vix before updating the DTT driver. Phew!

...Just one problem now... I can't see the Duo on my Windows (7) PC.
I could see this before. Can't remember did I use a plugin or something to have the Duo show up as a PC in the network. . . or what did I do??

(note: I can ping the duo on the correct ip and I can ftp to it... just doesn't show in Windows Explorer/ Network)

    Anyone?

Make sure that DNLA and Ushare is switched on and autostarting on the Vu +
Go to Menu>Settings>Network and check there.

    OK. Thanks.
I can now see it in Windows as a media share. However, before I could view it as a network pc and map to it in Explorer same as a hard disk in any other network-connected pc.

I've just discovered I can still do this on my android tablet, so I'm wondering if it's something I've disabled in Windows. ...I'm thinking maybe I was mucking about with some settings a few days ago. Haven't a clue now what/ where/ why/ when...

    Anyone?

  • Registered Users Posts: 651 ✭✭✭Gunther_Gloop

    False alarm!

Just discovered I had the wrong number in the subnet mask. Funny how the tablet was still able to view it.

    Anyway all working now. :)

I finally got the Duo to see shared drives across the network and it plays (so far) all video formats I've tried on it -including MKVs, which is very nice.

One problem is I only get stereo (or prologic maybe) sound even from DD5.1 / DTS files.
Is it possible to get 5.1 output via the Duo? [Mine is connected via optical out]

And while I'm at it, what's the quickest/ best way to run/ browse to these files? So far I've used Media Player in plugins so I long-press on Blue, then go to plugins, then Media Player... is there an easier/ better way?

    Tony wrote: »

Yup that did it thanks Tony.

There is a little problem here though... I have the downmix on by default so I can use the Duo remote for volume when viewing channels.

In the MediaPlayer, if I select a movie file, then select downmix off in the audio it doesn't switch the audio straight away (which is where I was having problems). However if I exit the movie file and go back in, then the downmix is off.

It stays off for everything though, so if I want to use the remote for volume back at the channels, I need to re-set that option in the standard audio menu.

    A bit messy.

Guess I'd better mention that at world-of-satellite ...unless there's some other media player type plugin that works better (?)

The standard mediaplayer seems good for playbacks, but pausing, etc. doesn't seem great. It seems hit & miss so far if a pause in a large MKV (for example) will resume when PLAY is pressed. ...again, unless there's a better way to do this ?

Overall I'm well impressed that it can play these at all. It'd be amazing if it could be finetuned just a teensy bit further to iron-out these things.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30 Rayob

I wonder if anyone could tell me, on the media player is it possible to pause and resume playback at the point you left off ? I have some audio books on mp3 format and they play fine on the media player but if I stop and come back to it later, it always reverts back to the start. I tried downloading the Merlin music Player but that also does the same thing.

All satellite feeds share the same source descriptions as far as I know. Well maybe there are slight variations, but the ones I see on the Duo are much the same as I see on my Freesat.

There are some images here from an earlier Vix release. Most of them are configuration screens that you'll rarely need to look at once set up -and you'll probably not need to see/use most of the ones there at any time (they're only there because they are new features in that release).

It's the last few pictures that you'll be seeing normally (not Simon Cowell of course), but even then if you don't like the look/ colours of how things are presented you can use a different 'skin' to change the look.

You can also use an imdb plugin (free obviously) to get more detailed movie descriptions, etc. if required. The Duo should be connected to the internet/ home network to get the most from it of course.

Basically, the amount of information on programmes available to you via the Duo is second to none.

can someone help me sort out my epg woes.

the guide never seems to download right.

Should i have rytec, open tv and rytec repacked all checked to download or just one which is the best?

Cross epg is set to download every night at 4am but it only fills in half the channels now.

BBC1 HD and BBC2 are blank.

I use to Dreambox services database to keep my channels upto date.

Where i am going wrong, i was using balckhole image before it was working fine for downloading EPG.

What image are you using now and what release? (there were a few in the past month or so)

The main reason I ask is because this usually confuses me too whenever things are jumbled up by an update. I generally muck about until it's working right, but never quite fully understand what I've done to fix it. ...But since installing the most recent Vix I haven't changed anything in the epg and I've not had any issues with satt or dtt epg.

I think the pause and resume only works with video files, that's my experience anyway. It's worked for some mp4 files I downloaded from youtube, maybe if you worked out an easy way to transcode the mp3s to mp4, pause/resume might work.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30 Rayob

Thanks for that rurs. Its just that when I play the same mp3 files on an SD card through my car radio it always resumes from the point where I stopped. Very handy when listening to an audio book. With the VU+ duo media player I have to note the point where I stopped and fast forward to that when I resume. Its not a huge issue but would have been nice if I could have done it.

hi guys, just bought a Play TV tuner for small money, what do i need to do when it arrives to get it working with my Vu+ Duo.. i have a digital aerial already connected to tv and receiving saorview.

I connect all up and what drivers do i use? Using latest vix image

How do you tune the DTT channels? Do i need to do a complete rescan of everything?

    Cheers,
    Mick

drivers are hauppauge dib 0700, if you're on 3 rock, 738000@8MhZ, it's a dual tuner, I forget what 2nd mux is on, I'm sure some boardsie will fill in the blanks.

Yes im on 3 rock.. could you give brief steps of what i need to do from powering on box after all is connect up etc?

i know how to work DB edit, so once tuned will prob just create a new saorview bouquet and sort them in that.

can i install drivers now before connecting tuner?

Menu/plugins/press green button(downloan plugins) select drivers and 0700 driver for play tv tuner.

Wait until you have tuner connected to usb at back before doing this.

When you have above done, restart vu. FULL restart. Then go to Menu/setup/service searching/tuner config. You should now see tuner c and d Select tuner c first and change terrestrial provider to Europe dvb-t frequencies. Do the same for tuner d. exit and do manual scan of tuner c.

Then you are ready for dreamboxedit.

All above assumes you have VU connected to internet and using VIX image.

    Enjoy!

That is interesting, but it is not the problem I am having.

I get consistent 70%+ signal strength, and don't get artifacts.

It just randomly stops working. If it is working, and I do a GUI reboot, it always stops working. And if I do a full reboot, it starts working again.

I use a USB stick for swap and Picons, so I am going to try a powered USB to see if that fixes it.

OK - I've been using BH 1.7.2 with the addition of a powered USB hub for over a week now, and it seems to be working perfectly.

BH 1.7.2 changed the behaviour of the Nova stick, in that it didn't drop all channels after a GUI reboot.

And the powered hub seems definitely to have cured the random dropping of all channels.

    Happy days.....

Strangely though, my swapfile USB stick (Voyager) is not detected (even though it does get powered) if it's connected to the hub. So I plug that directly into the STB, and plug the Nova into the hub.

There is an option in the setup to map the red button in order to get into the guide, which I enabled.

But if you are on a channel, and press EPG, you will get Cool TV Mini guide for that programme. You can press EPG again to see Cool TV Mini guide for that channel. And at any stage within this you can press Yellow to switch to the regular Cool TV Guide.

    Cool TV Guide is awesome.....

Doesn't really bother me, as I still get summaries in Cool TV Guide.

    Which version are you using?

As an aside, you can install multi quick button, which enables remapping of the keys. I have the EPG button set to launch Cool TV, red button for timers etc.

5.5 I think? The one that displays picons on the top of the screen.

I used to use MQB, but the only reason I had it was to assign CoolTVGuide to the EPG button. MQB isn't included in backup, so I just gave up on it.

I found I preferred the default functionality of CoolTVGuide once I got used to it. And CoolTVGuide allows me to assign a short Green Button to Auto Timer, which was my main reason for wanting to assign buttons in any case.
