but he's done nothing else since.

Won Castello masters and HSBC after he lost the 2008 PGA.
Top 10 in 2009 US Open but had a horrible 18 months since apart from superb vice captain performance at ryder cup :D

Great to see some green shoots appearing in his game.

Lowry finished +6, will be disappointed with no birdies today.

They have been giving out for months now.

It is amazing how the course is just chewing up great players and spitting them out. Typical US Open I guess.

Anyone who is under par at this stage is doing incredibly well. As for the young lad who is leading - the contempt of youth!!!

Loving the emotion been shown by Siem. Shows how much it means to him to make the cut. Serious round of 66.

    Harrington +1 going down 18.

He really can go overboard at times but you have to warm to the guy for his passion on the course.

Personally, I love to see him doing well.

sadly for ph... making the cut is an achievement. still good to see him around for wknd none the less. a top 10 finish would do him the world of good.

Who are these americans giving out about the world rankings?

Cant handle Tiger not being top anymore? Steve Stricker said it very well, the rankings dont lie. He should know, he's been top 5 of rankings consistently for last few years, without winning a major.

I think it's more sky trying to stir it up with the yanks, most of them interviewed seem to have no problem with those that have topped rankings recently.

Patrick Cantlay had a great run of birdies for an amateur.

Just in from work...check my subscriptions....and all I can say is I'm shocked to see a Mod Post showing up for the U.S. Open thread...absolutely ridiculous that some of ye managed to drag it to that!!! It's a thread about a golf tournament ffs!!!

By reposting your only dragging it up again.

CAn't see Rors not winning from this position. Love the bit about him deciding to be more agressive rather than playing for safety. Will lead to the odd double/triple but plenty of birdies and excitement for us which is what we all want to see!

He didn't exactly see he was going to be more aggressive.
What it sounded like to me was that he was going to continue to play aggressively to his targets... his target may well be the middle of the green but he's going to play a determined shot to that area rather than a less committed shot to the flag.
Anyway, golf interviews are the stuff of platitudes and clichés... bring on the golf and more of the same please, however he decides in his head to achieve it :)

Everyone can read something different into what he said I guess.
"After Augusta I said I needed to be a little more cocky, a little more arrogant on the golf course, and think a little bit more about myself, and I have tried to do that this week," he said. "I'm just trying to have a bit of an attitude, you know? When I get myself in these positions, I have to really make sure that I don't get ahead of myself and I don't start playing defensively. I have to still play aggressively to the targets that I pick.
"And that's really the main thing, even if you get four or five shots ahead of the field, you have to try to get seven ahead, or eight ahead or 10 ahead.
"You have to try to keep going."

Unreal display by McIlroy so far. To compile that score and build such a lead on a US Open setup is incredible. Maybe I was a bit late on the train but for me it justifies all the hype that has surrounded him for the last few years. I hope he finishes it off in style.

    Idiotic.

I used to suspect that McIlroy was a fool with no respect for the history of the game. On the basis of the above, I now know that it's true.

You heard it here first folks...McIlroy's collapse this week will be even more embarrassing and humiliating than the Augusta farce. But it'll all be fine 'cause sure he's an incredible talent and he'll have loads more chances to win Majors. A few idiotic posts and pictures on Twitter later and all will be good on planet Rory.

That has to be the most idiotic post I have ever read, you obviously have no understanding of the game.

I have my suspicions that you may be the type that makes outrageous comments looking for reaction, and I am probably feeding you..

Edit: just seen mods post now...

+1 on this. He sets his own targets and they can be birdies or safe middle of the green and two putt pars. Also, he probably plays better being aggressive towards his targets, it seems to have worked so far this week.

Really hope he can do it this weekend. I remember myself and a friend being the only people watching him for a few holes out at the European Club when he was around 15. It was obvious then he was going to go far, I just didn't expect this far!

2nd round isn't finished yet so tee times haven't been finalised.
