I figure the doubters will have egg on their faces in a couple of days - to me Rory's demeanour and mental attitude have been even more impressive than his golf - he looks mean out there rather than flopping about as he usually does. Happy that I backed him to win at 24/1 :D

Having said that, I don't know if there could be anything more impressive than his 4 iron from 225 on 16. I didn't think it was physically possible to land a ball that softly from 225 yards. Not to mention the fact that the pin was over water and tucked away near the front edge. Not to mention the perfection of the swing.

He's due to tee off at 20:50 according to here:

He should easily do this. I mean 4/11, talk about easy money! :D

I know this is off topic but last night there seemed to be a few posters talking nonsense about why should we be supporting Rory etc for not being Irish.

Wonder what they have to say now. COME ON RORY!!

Would love to see Rory doing it.. particularly after what happened to him at the Master's... I would be worried about the way that people are talking him up, even Greg Allen who's normally fairly reserved about these things.. Even if Rory doesnt play badly he could easily be caught by somebody else playing out of their skin.. And at least one person in the field is gonna shoot two very good rounds on the last two days..

tbh, I dont know how it's possible for somebody to keep the head under such a prolonged weekend of pressure.. Just heard an interview with Harrington there and he reckons that one of the things in Rory's favour is that there is no real hole where you could lose 3 or 4 shots (like there is at Augusta)... But I guess if the nerves take over you could lose 5 shots at a 100 yard pitch and putt hole

Could be a long day for Rory tomorrow, not sure if they're gonna get finished tonight with that late tee time.

yang 6 shots back.... with kuchar / z. johnson / snedeker a further 2 shots back.... quite a pedigree in the supporting cast there. plus sergio starting to retain some form of swagger.

6 shot lead with 36 holes of a US open left to play.... theres a lot of drama to come!

johnson is uber steady.... yang is a formidable opponent.... this isnt over... not even close.

    hope im utterly wrong!

Its true, a 6 shot lead with 36 to play isnt a lot if you start playing badly.
Anyone could drop 6 shots in 3 holes if their swing went wrong.

I think it's crazy to think someone is going to win with 36 to play.

Over half the field scored 7 over par or worse for the first 2 days.......if Rory does the same today and tomorrow (and considering the pressure, he might) , then he may not be the winner on sunday evening.

I really hope he wins it, but I am realistic that he has difficult task ahead.

I think that Rory has to have a round in the 60's, (a 69 would be the order of the day). Even a good score from anyone down the field would still see Rory ahead of afairs.

Hope he does it...even if my money is on Kucher and a small bit on Garragius.

Yea + 1 to this and the other sensible posters who are aware this isn't a done deal by any stretch. If he does win, it still doesn't mean they were right, only half way there lot of work still do do. I stand to clean up if Yang wins but I'd be happy to forego that to see Rory win.

No matter what happens the excitement is great lads. Inspirational stuff :D

To put some perspective on Rory's first 2 rounds, for the US Open:
    - First man ever to reach -10 in R2
    - First player ever to reach -13
    - Lowest 36-hole total of 131
    - Equals biggest 36-hole lead of six shots set by Tiger Woods in 2000

The lowest ever 36 hole score for a major us 130 by Nick Faldo in 1992 at Muirfield. If Rory was not in the field we would not be talking about Yang's first two rounds as something special.

To quote David Feherty, it is not a done deal. Anything could happen.

But those first 2 rounds are phenomenal. Looking forward to this no matter what happens but would love to see him have another 2 rounds in the 60's and totally rip it up.

Agreed, 2 amazing rounds and it would be great to see him finish with 2 rounds of 60s too, great stuff, he deserves it!!

8.50pm our time, yang and himself are the last 2 to tee off :)

Amazing so far by Simpson. Of about 30 players already out on the course and only 4 of them have improved their position. Only 5 players under par for their rounds so far.

Nobody in golf deserves anything, he has to go out there and play the golf. As Wayne Grady said, Golf owes nobody anything !

This is one man's tournament. I think some of the others are just sitting back to watch Rory. It cant unfold like at the Masters. He speaks with such maturity about that and he has obviously learned and grow since

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,105 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

    steady start by podge..... par.par.

    Plus two more par's.

I'd like to see him get into the top 10. If nothing just to get his owgr back inside the top 50.

As far as I'm concerned the lads a shoe in. Reckon he'll at least win one major this year after this. And then a few more the year after and then starts dominating. :)
