Fair enough, each to their own. The comment was intend to give a laugh, it may be juvenile humor but hey, welcome to the internet my righteous friend! Sorry if you get the 'hump' :p easy, it might be easier for you to simply log off rather than post back mentioning my mother as that is more inflammatory IMO.

Sorry to have taken the thread off course with my friday night teenage humor, and apologies to any offended.

To answer the actual question, I think running a marathon has enough challenges without running with extra weight as RoyMcC has already said. It's fine for training but using one while running a race pace could be counter productive but it's a bit like humor- every one to their own.

Did they not have pacers every quarter hour last year? Being a plodder myself I was hoping there would be a 4.45 pacer so I can place myself between the 4.30 and 4.45 balloons and hope for the best.

Folks, a few of us were discussing this morning (after Donore 5k) about booking a table for grub on Sunday night in Luigi Malone's for say 7.00pm.

Meno is going to put this up on the Pacers thread as well to get as many as possible. So i'll start and add your name if you are around for food

Shouldn't this be a PM thing???
A certain clique seem to hijacked this thread for in-jokes and planning their social evening.

The whole point of posting it on this thread is so that anyone running can meet up with the rest of the boardsies. A lot of people may be on their own in Cork next weekend and would be glad of the company.

    Afraid not. 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:30 and 5:00 are the pacers.

That's one impressive range of pacers! Well done to all the people involved.

I'm liking the look of the weather for the day but still a bit soon to start counting the chickens :)

This thread is about the Cork City Marathon, this forum is a community of sorts and as RQ says those on their own I'm sure would appreciate an opportunity to put faces on some boardsies, not to mention the lift one might get from a familiar face on race day during a rough spot.

re luigi malones. I had a group there with work this week. We booked for 7 and with such a big group, they were still eating at 9:45. Might this be a bit late for a 9am marathon start? Hopefully we will be able to come meet everyone.

Good luck to everyone next week! I expect to hear of some good runs, in both the marathon and relay!

How is inviting people who are doing Cork to meet up with others who are also running Cork the night before for food 'hijacking' a thread?

The same happened last year when around 25 people turned up after someone came up with the idea for food if i recall right. Most of these people i had never met before as i'm Dublin based and the race was in Cork so a good few Munster Boardies were there.

There might be many reading on here who might like to meet others on here to put a face to the name or who may just be a lurker who might like to have a bite of food and a chat with others. When did this become such a crime?

Maybe we're not taking the race seriously, we should not speak to anyone, nor make eye contact - run our own race and retreat back to life as a hermit. Actually, wouldn't it be great if we could run the race on our own, no people beside you and no crowds cheering you on?

Thanks RQ, I'll just have to try run faster so:D. I'm doing 3 legs of the relay so maybe the 4.30 pacers will help me get a faster time this year.

As an aside, I'll be pacing 4 hours at the marathon and wearing a boards top. So any boardsies following the group, make sure to come up and say hello.

Hi guys - have been lurking this thread for a while with the odd post.

Hope to finish about 3hr50 - 3hr55 mark so prob will start off with the 3hr 45min pacers and build up some time but might be seeing Menoscemo at some stage too!

Getting a butterflys thinking about it now!

    Fingers crossed for the weather!

Thank God, I'm not the only one - I'm in the horrors with aches and pains and sheer lunacy.

I vaguely remember there being a race up St. Patrick's hill on the weekend of the marathon last year for people doing the full race. Does anyone know if this is happening again this year?

That would be hunnymonster's race. Due to due date being due (Tongue twister time) the king of pana is postponed till nex year. It is quite a lung buster and was good craic

If you park north of the river and walk back across the bridges to your car.
The route to the tunnel and tunnel ( Dublin road) gets open very quickly. Depends where your staying just don't park on the route or city centre.

I thought that you were thinking of doing this on St Patrick's Day maybe ZL? A great idea even though the first attempt fell a bit flat.

Did 10.5miles today and legs felt good but was pretty slow.

Just been thinking about my race plan.
I really want to break the sub 4 mark and perhaps come in at 3hr 50 - 3hr 55.

Would I be a fool to follow the sub 3h45 guys till about mile 13/14 and then fall back a bit?
Works out 8min 35sec per min mile and that would bring me in at 1hr 52min at mile 13.
That then allows me to fall back a bit on the last half using the sub 4 pacers as a backup plan. (it gives me an 7 min buffer which is about 30sec per mile).

Am I foolish to do this?
Should I just stick with the sub 4 pacers at the start......
