Smear tests aren't anythin to do with being sexually active

In fairness they are to a certain extent as studies have shown that HPV (human papillomavirus) is almost the exclusive cause of cervical cancer. HPV is sexually transmitted and can be detected in a smear. Saying that not everyone with HPV will go on to develop cancer, not sure what the figs are...

that's why the thinking now is that if you are in a long term monogamous relationship your chances of cervical cancer are greatly reduce

Most people who are sexually active have probably been exposed to HPV, even if they use condoms. But there are dozens of different strains, not all of which can lead to cervical cancer. And most people never even know they have been exposed to it, since their immune system represses it.

Of all the givin out we do about the HSE i have to praise the cervical check service

Its FREE!!The main reason i never go to the docs is because of the charge.

I put it off for yearrrrrs...way longer than i shouldve tbh.Im 31 now. Now close your ears/eyes gents but it is a must for every lady over 25. The reason its 25 is because the cells in your cervix are still changing until then, regardless of whether you're sexually active. This is where i give TMI...but its really important girls. I signed up at 29 and on my first smear (it was painful-ish) i came back as CIN 1. I freaked out! But my doc was so sound and explained everything over the phone.

CIN means Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia. It goes CIN 1 (abnormal but basically grand, CIN2 bit dodgy but still not major to CIN3 possibly could lead to being cancerous but monitored and caught is vital) Big terminology but thats medical words for ya...sounds worse than it is.
Cervical=cervix the entrance to your uterus or womb
Intraepithelial=basically the contents of the cells lining it
    Neoplasia=an abnormal cell growth

As i said i freaked out...but this is really common and is being monitored with regular 6 monthly checks. This service is really really brilliant. For someone who doesnt go to the doctors at all, this is a must for every woman because its so easy.

My 4th smear in 2 yrs was last week (in my lunch break) and it was a piece of p!ss. In and out in 10 minutes, the nurses are sound and results are on time around 8 weeks.

DO IT! Ive nothin funny to say bar...relaxin those vajajay muscles by thinkin of Mr Bubbles himself...it works lol :D

I'm a few years off 25 but now you have me worried! I'll ask my doctor next month.
Dont worry, 25 is the perfect age to start. Good luck ;) This is a LL topic but not everyone heads over there!

What's the obsession with Michael Bublé? I saw him on Tubridy and he's a complete bollocks! Arrogant, self-obsessed, and he's not even all that attractive. His music is shíte, he's not even that great a singer, and he looks like a muppet!

Do smear tests ever have Porno-esque results??

I might just wait till I'm 25 and its free then :P Gives me a few years to mentally prepare. We did a lot about contraception and that stuff in school, but nobody ever talked to us about this. Girls need to be informed

I went for my very first smear test during the week. While I was up on the bed with legs wide open you would never guess what i was thinking about. Michael Bubles bollocks. Why couldn't I think normal thoughts like food, or sun holidays. The shame. Id say there was no need for the doctor to use lubericant. Wasnt painful so maybe it was all good thinking about Michael Bubles bollocks.

I was looking at an interview of him on The Graham Norton Show last night. I have to say that he is a top geezer. Some of the stars don't know how to act on Norton and don't let go and have a laugh. Micky Bubbles was a right laugh so yeah, youtube Graham Norton and Buble. No bollok action OP, but def. entertaining

Im being really honest but your first smear is only uncomfortable because its such a weird situation to have something so personal done to you.It really is grand...on a scale of pain id put it as a 2.Seriously.Ive a tilted pelvis so putting my hands under the small of my back makes it so much easier and why i prefer certain positions of sex.;)

I dont really care that im saying too much here, serious things need to be discussed in a more relaxed way sometimes. If you read the advice, 25 is the optimal age...but if you feel you need or want to go beforehand...do.

Contraception rather than cervical cancer should be priority in schools, end of. Contraception should be top of the list seeing as you can get pregnant at 12 or even younger. My point is, cervical screening should be done by every woman over the age of 25,its easy, its free and regardless of whether you're sexually active is a must do for every woman.Nobody will know you're getting screened, its really easy to do...there is literally no excuse. DO IT!

So dub, do you find that your period is heavy just for the first couple of days, and then not so much after that?

    :pac:

Did anyone see the Carling Cup match on Tuesday? Bebe got his first goal for United. Nice goal too by El Chicarito. He's looking like an astute purchase by Sir Alex.

Men don't care about their own health.
