Seriously Alun, I don't know where you live but around here you would get a littering fine for doing that. :(
Don't be ridiculous. It' s just a matter of putting it out by the front door step, not throwing it into the middle of the street for crying out loud.

Some people's doorsteps *are* in the street :)

Not everybody lives in leafy suburbia ;)

In town here many front doors open directly onto the street. In my rural area my front door is straight onto a driveway. You don't honestly think I should leave a catalogue on the drive in all the wind and rain, never mind the cars coming and going!

I'm sure that something can be found here to clean rubbish from your porch, or doorstep.

They might do in the next run up :D

I would trash it too in the Green bin. Its about time these companies went on line with their catalogs like most other companies and done something good for the environment.

I like to carefully place the catalogue in the centre of my driveway ..

Then see how many times I can drive over it before it is collected ..

More fun of course when it's raining/snowing ..

    :p

Simple but spot on point, Run_to_da_hills, is there a reason why the catalogue isn't web based. The goods could still be distributed by a Rep., maintaining the business model, of sorts.

I would safely say that the majority of customers who purchase from the Kleeneze catalogue are not online shoppers. While a lot more Irish people have become computer literate in recent years, you'd be surprised how few actually USE the internet on a regular basis for anything. I'm not just talking about older people here either. Old habits die hard ...

I was over at a mates this morning and noticed one of these catalogs on the table with an unclosed note: "for collection on SUNDAY AM".

If one of these guys turned up at my doorstep at AM Sunday morning they would get a size 10. :D

a simple no junk mail sticker near the letterbox solves any problems with junk mail here in galway! the kleen rep nearby always knocks on our door and never leaves one if were not there,he is a joy to deal with and very friendly.
he never calls late or weekends and i know he does a lot of business, maybe you guys have bad reps giving others a bad name?

All you need to do is put the catalogue back in the plastic bag it came in, and put it on your doorstep on Saturday night.

I think it's pathetic how some people deliberately chuck the Kleeneze catalogues in the bin - that is someone's living and they will have to purchase replacements.

And no, I have no connections to Kleeneze.

I don' think it is particularly pathetic.

I leave the catalogue back out but I don't see why a rep should get snotty if it's not left out. After all they have pushed unwanted and unsolicited material through your letterbox and it's up to the recipient to decide how to deal with it.

We don't ask Kleeneze reps to call , we don't ask survey guys to telephone us in the evening.

The way i see it is we wont have to put up with all this moaning anymoe because its only certain generations that are complaining. Usualy ones sat inside all day and nothing to do until they gobowling at night or to the local pension bingo. So they are a dying breed. They have nothing better to do. Theyd moan if yo didnt work and then moan if you put a catalogue through their door to try and earn money.

Do people really feel sympathy for spammers?

Technically the rep could argue that the catalogues are books thus making them goods in themselves but the reality is if they ever tried legal action a judge would throw it out since the "books" are unsolicited advertisements.

If the reps don't want them thrown out then don't leave them on people's doors without asking. End of.

I've said it in this thread before but why not do as the avon reps do? Call and ask does one want a catalog. They seem to manage fine using this system and there's no bitchin about them.

With respect i dont know of any avon reps who knock and ask if people want the catalogue.
Plus if they did know and ask youd always get some miserable t**t who will moan about yo asking. Some people just have nothin better to do,

You just don't get the point.

Nobody asked for this rubbish so the rubbish provider can't get on their high horse if it's dealt with by some people in a way that doesn't suit the rubbish provider. That's what the thread is about.

We're not talking about library books or a loan of catalogue - we're talking about unsolicited material.

As I've said I usually leave it back out but if I didn't and yer man got odd with me then I'd be in my rights to feel aggrieved.

The thread was really about the kleeneze rep getting worked up. The others do not seem as worked up, this business model is the straw breaking the camels back and I really hope it does not take off in a bigger way. By throwing catalogues out it might show people it is not a viable business, and anybody considering a job knows the basis of their work, they are intrusive spammers, and they know full well they are.

My postbox is meant for 1 thing, post, from the postman, addressed to me. All the rest can go to hell, I view it the same as litter, I think it as unacceptable to post flyers or catalogues in my door as empty beer cans or sweet wrappers. I do not expect to have to come home and examine all this crap to see when I have to leave it out for the littering person to collect his crap again.

I certainly do not want to have a collection building up on my doorstep of crap waiting for collection which may never happen. And I do not want to have to resort to putting signs on my door, I shouldn't have to, where does it end.

the ones I do know are working 9-5 jobs and sometimes more than a 39 hour week but are trying to earn a little bit of extra money for holidays and the like.

Not paying any income tax on the extra work, if the distributors I know of are anything to go by. I get the nixer thing, and having to make a few bob on top of a regular salary. Whilst illegal, I have no moral objection to that (as long as it is on top of a regular full-time salary). However, Kleeneze's business model leaves a lot to be desired. Legally it might just fit outside the pyramid scheme definition, morally, to me anyway, it certainly doesn't. The target audience, and the most loyal purchasers (suckers) tend to be the vulnerable. So, no, I'm not going to have any sympathy for them. They're not as bad as the bogus charity collectors, for sure, but they're hovering not so far from there in terms of honest living and annoyance!
    seamus wrote: »
    Unless it's addressed to you....

I think that's the game changer there? Distance selling regulation applies to targeted selling. The book club scams all have your name and address from somewhere, don't they? The Kleeneze is not targeted, IMO, because it is not addressed and it's distributed to the entire neighbourhood at the same time. I don't think you're under any obligation in that case, and can treat it as litter, unsolicited rubbish. I could be wrong!

One thing is for sure, don't give it back on the morning they want it and you can be sure that you'll be off "the list"! In fairness, I do try and leave them out, but I've binned one (the seller never came back after I missed the first morning; the recession has changed that, I've noticed!!).

when the book comes in my door i just put it back outside with opening it or looking at it but every frikken week the rep knocks on my door when i am in the middle of make the dinner or in the shower looking for it back. i just point at it on the ground and close the door.

last week took the biscuit, i get a knock on the door, am making dinner and there is the rep, i told her we didnt get a book last week (which we didnt) and she started crying saying that she was missing ten books and she was down €100 unless she got them all back.

not my problem, i didnt get a book

i agree with you about the expense of it. It's seriously expensive but do you understand, that people who are trying to sell it to you, they are just regular people who are working to earn money some extra 50 eur a week. I got them catalogs few times even if i didn't want anything i left it outside for them to pick it up.
It sounds to me the same like your work in factory and your colleges doesn't like you, they are just trying to get rid of you.
Do you really are so happy doing bad thing to other people? My opinion is: you want you buy, you don't want you don't buy.

Door to door sales people are also just normal people doing a job, as are the people that drop off those bogus charity stickers. Should we also respect them?

By leaving it outside your littering your garden/drive way, if somebody drops crap through my letter box and I don't want it then it gets binned and compressed for recycling.

Its no different to the tesco special offer leaflet tbh

Yes but where do you see spam here? I see only selling, the same like Avon or you think that Avon is spam too? I don't i am happy that people are trying to work not to go and steal. The person who brings me catalogs, he is unemployed and truly fights for life of his family, it's not much but he is trying to work hard for it. I don't know you sound negative.

Ok why can't you write down on a peace of paper and stick it to the catalog that you don't want these catalogs any more. Next time i think they would not bring it to you.

Yeah from the other side it is annoying, the best way it would if they would ask me do i want catalog or not.

Well then I think you should look up the definition of spam. In simple terms Spam is unsolicited mail.

What about the drug dealer that is forced to sell drugs to feed his family. Where is the line drawn?

Because they were not asked for in the first place. What will happen is you might let that guy know not to deliver a catalogue but then a couple of weeks later someone else might be delivering and then they must be informed too.

    Yes they are both spam,
They are no different to e-mails selling you viagra or watches, sure they might appeal to some people but if you don't want it then its spam

Exactly that "you don't think" so there's no 100% way to confirm they won't spam you again, you have to remember it costs people to recycle stuff so why should people have to accept this type of crap through their door?
Yeah from the other side it is annoying, the best way it would if they would ask me do i want catalog or not.

Which means if they ask you that means they ring your door and then we are back to door to door sales people, which according to your logic are fine because they are just trying to make a living

All Avon reps in my area call to the door and ask would we be interested in taking a catalog and looking through it. That's the difference for me. Do that and I don't mind, I probably won't take your catalog but I won't end up chucking it and costing you a few quid.

I have had charity clothes collectors banging on my door demanding their refuse sack back. They were promptly told where to go.

Any catalogues that come through my letterbox go straight into the recycling bin. Considering I live in the middle of no where I still gets a lot of spam through the letterbox. Kebab shops, chippers, taxis and clothes bags. All in the bin for me.

There's no obligation on my part surely? I'm annoyed that they seemed annoyed. Dropping a paper catalogue through a letterbox does not signify some sort of agreement or arrangement between parties.

Tell them that the dog/cat shredded it but that you'd like a chance to read it if they have a spare (then promptly bin that one as well and blame it on the dog/cat grabbing it when you did not notice from the table).

But no, there is no obligation on you for returning their spam.

Better still try to be a decent human being, appreciate that it's attitudes like this that cause most of the worlds problems. After all you have no idea why these people have chosen to be Kleeneze distributors, perhaps it's because they are close to having their house repossesed and are doing everything they can to stop them loosing their family home.

Walk a mile in the other man's shoes before you condemn them!

If you have a scrap of decency in you, all you need to do is to leave a POLITE note with the catalogue saying you don't want any more Kleeneze catalogues leaving, it's worth putting your address on it too so there's no excuse/mistakes.

If you can be bothered, take a look at the back of the catalogue and you'll find three things of interest.

1- the distributors name - use this to address your note directly to them.
2- the distributors account number - make a note of this & their name for later.
3 - the telephone number of Kleeneze.

If after politely telling a distributor that you do not want to get the Kleeneze catalogue they continue to deliver it (i.e. the same distributor delivers again to the same address) then call Kleeneze directly and they WILL deal with them.
After all Kleeneze is approaching a £1 Billion a year turn over, it's not some small fry company, and they DO care VERY much about their reputation.

Please try to remember that these are real human beings, and they do have feelings.
There is absolutely no reason to deliberately cause them harm, emotional or financial. I know that there are many people out there who really have some huge problem with getting catalogues through their doors, but you have to remeber that people in the UK and Ireland place around 100,000,000 (yes one hundred million) orders a year through Kleeneze, so it's not like no-one wants the products.
As for the comment of Kleeneze selling a broom for 25 Euro that could be bought for 5 from Tesco, Kleeneze are the same as any large retailer - some products are cheeper than their competitors, and some are more expensive, but they don't sell any broom for 25 Euro that you could get from Tesco for 5.

I bet there's a "we hate Tesco" blog somewhere with lots of hateful things from grundie posted on it.

Multi-Level Marketing, such as Kleeneze, stays just on the right side of the law to not be an illegal pyramid scheme. I want no part in it, even as a potential customer.

If you had a scrap of decency you would not dump stuff in somebodies letterbox and then have the bizarre expectation for them to do the things you listed -you have some bloody nerve expecting people to treat you so specially.

I come home to a pile of unsolicited mail each day, do you really expect me to go reading the fine print on every piece of junk mail and write notes and ring the companies etc.

Would you also recommend I trawl through the reams of spam in my email account and write them all polite emails saying I do not want their services?
Walk a mile in the other man's shoes before you condemn them!
Indeed, most people have better things to be doing than writing out notes for spammers.

I come home to a pile of unsolicited mail each day, do you really expect me to go reading the fine print on every piece of junk mail and write notes and ring the companies etc.

Would you also recommend I trawl through the reams of spam in my email account and write them all polite emails saying I do not want their services?

Indeed, most people have better things to be doing than writing out notes for spammers.

I would recommend that perhaps you see an anger management counsellor, you obviously have 'issues'

Nah. He just does not want your spam pushed through his letterbox.

Where are you in the pyramid?

ehh right:rolleyes: didn't see anything "angry" in my post, I was just throwing your own statements right back at you. So I take it you are not going to answer my questions then...

And please spare me the "think of the children" type emotive crap, its utterly cringeworthy.

I dont see any difference between kleeneze and avon... at least in my area the two of them are left in the same bag along with some other kind of catalog..

The guy who drops them doesn't put them in the letterbox though, he leaves them in a ziploc bag on the mat.. I just put a note in the bag asking him not to leave them anymore because I wasn't interested.

Seems to have worked because I haven't got any more since.

The thing that really annoys me is those boxes of envelopes from the church looking for offerings.. I haven't been to church apart from weddings and funerals in years!!

No, you're technically not entitled to bin it because it doesn't constitute advertising. Some book companies run a similar scam - they send you books unsolicited and if you don't return them, they send you a bill. It's perfectly legal unless you've told them not to send you stuff.

However, you could dispute it easily on the grounds that the catalogue looks and smells like advertising and in no way asks you to return it to the rep.

how does a catalog advertising products for sale not constitute advertising ??
