Hi naturalblue , I've not got any signal at all for the last few days . I would agree with what watty says to a point. It may be best to wait until next year for the service to start before buying any equipment. Personally I won't buy a box set box or a cam card ever, I'm a D.I.Y. home theater PC user and I am receiving free-sat and free-view (well the Irish test dtt) on a nice PC I've made. I purchased my DVB-T card early in the year when the September start date for the service was still being floated about. In my case the DVB-T pci card was a not too expensive add on to an up and running system and it will work with the aid of software decoding. Also my dvb-t card is hybrid so can receive analogue too, it was a safe bet as such.

When the signal is available I find the quality to be top notch , it's just a shame the roll out was delayed but in my case the equipment I purchased will work when ever the DTT service becomes available (At least I hope so !!! ) and it also works with the analogue service.

I would still like confirmation from a somebody else that the signal from mount leinster is gone so I can rule out something like a fault in my master head amp.

Just got a surprise when I picked up Irish DTT test on Ch61 today. PQ not too bad (much pixelation) - but pleasantly surprised given the horrible analogue reception. Not sure if broadcast originates from Three Rock or Kippure, my loft aerial points in the general direction of both from North Kildare. (If I was serious about getting terrestrial TV I would get properly aligned external aerial installed.)

I was a little surprised to get pictures on my Brit spec'd Panasonic TXP42G10B. Was unsure whether this TV was capable of receiving Irish DTT (I know it has MPEG4 capability for FreeSat HD - don't know if todays reception is MP2 or MP4).

Interested to see if it hangs together for final DTT roll-out. Not really expecting it to - planning to get external STB if I opted to get domestic Irish channels via terrestrial.

Final DTT rollout is DVB-T/ MPEG4. This Panasonic is DVB-T/MPEG4 so it will work. You should also get Digital Aertel on RTE when you press text. There were issues with some other Panasonics where even though they were DVB-T/MPEG4 the firmware wasnt updated to latest DVB-T spec thereby ignoring the codec identifier RTE were using.

The DVB-T tuner in your Panasonic will be as good as any Set top box you wish to purchase. Your only reason to get an STB is for recording purposes.

From what I've read on here it appears that RTÉ have reverted the service descriptor type back to 0x01. When it was set to 0x16 the Panasonic Freesat TVs wouldn't pick it up.

    Hi,

I have been receiving MPEG4 Tests from 3-Rock Mountain since august 2008 with only the occasional interruption of service.

This evening, Monday 31.08.2009, I am getting no signal on DTT.

I am based in Dublin City Centre.
It was working earlier this morning before I went to work.

Is anyone else having a similar problem ?

    Regards,

    FZ

Do you know if Ch61 transmission originates from Three Rock or Kippure? (I read that Three Rock was transmitting on ch54)

... so is there an opportunity to influence RTÉNL to maintain the service descriptor type as 0x01 so that Panasonic FreeSat TVs will continue to work in future. This will save me (and many others, I am sure) some money and save cluttering up living rooms around the country with unnecessary ancillary boxes.

I am in Balbriggan. I am still getting digital from RTE. The only problem I have this week is that there is no sound with the picture on digital services. I am using a Philips 42PFL9803 TV.

Didn't notice any interruption from Woodcock hill. I'm seeing the time in the EPG getting mixed up a bit over the last week or so though. Sometimes an hour fast, sometimes correct. I remember an earlier post about that but I wasn't seeing it here at the time.

That's been the case for months now. More often the time is 1 hour behind (GMT?) rather than correct.

Strange, I'm seeing the "wall clock" time an hour fast or correct. For example if I set the timer for CSI at 21:00 the tv will switch on at 20:00 (Sony Bravia). I've only noticed this within the last month but I saw posts a while back complaining of the wrong time (fast or slow, I don't remember). I wasn't seeing the same problem back then....but I only watch the box for an hour or 2 in the evening.

Three Rock is back alright but the Service type must have been changed again to possibly 0x16 -didnt check the stream with TSreader - but an LZD81 wouldnt scan freshly.

I suggest you switch off your network messages on the panisonics so that it wont rescan and lose CH54.

In Tullamore area and the mpeg4 test is not working since last week for me. Pity considering analogue reception here is crap.

    I'm based near Ballincollig.

Did a scan yesterday and all tv channels were saved as radio!!!

Can someone confirm if the audio is out of sync on TV3 from mt leinster, or is just me?

Also, The times on the EPG seem to be an hour ahead of the real times. Is this the case for everyone?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,579 ✭✭✭Mr McBoatface

marathont : Just checked , I've got audio problem from mount leinster too (I use an internet based epg grabber so can't comment on the EPG)

Three Rock and Kippure also out of sync tonight.

RTE1 has had poor lip sync for weeks

  • Registered Users Posts: 347 ✭✭John Dough

Yep noticed that last night on TV3 thought it was box playing up switched off and reset still the same on TV3 although the rest were in sync.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,568 ✭✭✭ethernet

TV3 finally seems to be setting the correct aspect ratio on its programming. 4:3 panscan actually works now. Previously, it looked like 4:3 in 4:3 letterbox -- awful.

Just tuned in the Irish digital channels tonite , is it normal for TV3 to be out of synch sound wise ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,882 ✭✭✭CrowdedHouse

Not normal but that's the way it is :D

I noticed the picture is out of sync with the audio on RTE 1 from Spur Hill the other night. Not sure if the other channels are affected.

Any plans to fix this RTENL engineers?

I wonder why that is? Maybe its being done on purpose to stop us watching before the 'ofeeshal' launch.

Its interesting that none of the papers have commented on the tests using the 'waste of taxpayers money' angle transmitting the channels for months before launch.

Anyone in the midlands Offaly region able to pick up these tests as I used to until around 2 weeks ago but no joy now ?

Is anyone still having problems with lip sync? I don't think mine has been in sync for months. I'm tuned to 794MHz on a ClarkTech 5000C. I'm not sure which transmitter I'm using because we are equidistant between Three Rock, Clermont Carn and Carn Hill.

Also the 7 day EPG isn't quite right. It loses some program titles to be replace with the text "(null)". The times and program descriptions are all correct - the problem is only with the titles. I'm not sure if these issues are just with the Clark Tech. Everything was perfect when it was MPEG2. Thanks

The null problem was fixed by a recent firmware update, you can get the latest release here. A bonus is that the switching time between channels has been halved as well, now 1 and 2s for mpg2 and mpg4 respectively.:D
Haven't seen any lip sync problems recently from CC but noticed this morning that TV3 has gone back to a test signal. Pity because they only recently switched to a proper widescreen picture from a stretched 4:3:mad:

  • Registered Users Posts: 58 ✭✭Fredd

I agree on the "null" issue. Was fixed by installing 179 firmware. However I feel that RTE1 is slightly loose on lip sync on DTT but looks fine on SKY. TV3 is on colour bars from Three Rock at the moment. Also digital subtitle not available on DTTas yet.

All fine on all channels from 3Rock. Previous issue (mostly with TV3) resolved.

Same - Test card on Mahera & Cairn Hill - no great loss

BTW Kippure is well down on power here(44% instead of 80) unusable

Thanks for the help. Clark Tech EPG sorted after firmware upgrade to 1.79. Also ITV HD working perfectly for the first time.
Channels on 794MHz are all down tonight so perhaps this was coming from Kippure.
