Yeah conveniently enough our courts won't allow class action lawsuits in case you know, consumers would have some fooking come back against the snake oil sales men in this country.

I agree with all sides of the debate that has been going on, and understand that this is just a survey to see what the general consensus or experience had been.

I know that if enough internet forums are misinterpreted, it's not long before the mainstream press might get on to the trail of it and try to make a story. Best of all would be when the internet goes crazy and takes something like this out of context that DaPoolRulez intended.

For example - take an innocent quote from earlier in the thread and use it out of context and then over react.

OMG - that means that 75% of PS3s do break!!!!

    :):):)

Now, I know I'm being silly here - sorry if it hijacks the thread down another path ...

I'd find that absolutely hilarious, if I'm honest.

Now I'm lost. Are we back to saying 25% of PS3s break again?

No, we're saying the poll is saying that 26.09% of PS3s break.

Thats alright, as long as we remember this poll would be biased upwards in terms of fault figures.

Have you done your leaving cert yet just out of curiosity?

Mine broke twice. Out of warranty too. Had it repaired and broke again in 3 months. Repaired again for free by them again and it seems okay now.

Right, Mines a 60GB and its running smoothly but what I want to ask is:

I bought mine off a chap on adverts.ie and never got a copy of his receipt or anything. Now if mine was to pack it what the hell would I do?? Don't even know where he bought it!

Would Sony just say tough luck?

Alot of people in the other, more helpful "has anyone experienced the bluray of death" thread have had them replaced without a reciept and even outside of warranty.

I am curious as to what will happen if mine breaks too, I got mine in an Argos up north. I fear I will be told to go back up that Argos as it is a Sony UK problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Batesy

    Cheers.

Might even chance my arm and mail the chap I bought it off and ask him where he bought it and by any chance would he still have the receipt.

    No harm in asking.

All I mean there are more individual stories from different people who have had the laser crock up on them.

They should be merged but there you go.

Its go a Sony badge on it, it would be hard for them to deny they did it. As far as I know, there is a small charge for it breaking to get it fixed if its outside warranty.

They are being very decent about it and I imagine the RROD thought them that you catch more flies with honey or whatever that stupid expression is.

I have to bring mine back today or tomorrow to XV, once I get the receipt.

Anyone bring one back to Xtravision. I have everything that came with it but none of the padding for the box. I presume I'm okay with that.

I have to find the receipt too. I'm sure I have it somewhere but if I have lost it, they took my details so I presume they can check these on their system.

Anyone want to make me feel better and give instructions on the best way to get a replacement from Xtravision? Are they sound about it or is company policy to ensure I never shop there again :P (I presume it mostly depends on whose behind the counter).

Same old story, I used to work there but not long enough to see a PS3 return. With a 360 return you would ring MS first, get a code of some kind and then we would swap it.

Basically making sure MS have agreed to it first I can only assume plus to make sure they have gone through all the possible "is it plugged in" stuff etc.

If you are in warranty don't worry but defo ring XV first. Then possibly Sony.

Nah its only two months old. Disc drive still works but it the lens is fooked or whatever seems to be happening to other PS3's.

60GB since launch day. No issues.

    +1 Same here

okay, can't find the receipt, will Xtravision accept without receipt? I just have to ring Sony first?

Thanks for any help, I hate ringing companies about this crap so want to get the procedure right before I start.

Don't mean to drag up an oldish thread lads but didn't want to start another one about the BluRay of Death issue.

My PS3 60gb version just stopped reading discs yesterday and so I looked up any solutions online and it even tried to restore the PS3 with no luck. After reading a few threads I see that because the PS3 is out of warranty I will have to pay Sony €160 to get a repair! Very steep and I don't really want to pay that much.

It's very frustrating, I rang up Sony and they told me if I can get it fixed somewhere cheaper I might as well do that. Is there anywhere cheaper to get it fixed does anyone know? Seeing as the problem must be the laser, how much roughly should it cost?

I see by the poll almost 30% of the posters have had a blu ray of death with their PS3's at this stage, very high percentage just 2 years into the PS3's lifecycle I would have thought!

Yeah but people who it has happened to are more likely to read a thread about it and also more likely to vote on the poll, so I wouldn't read too much into the figures on that.

Sorry to hear about your PS3 though, that sucks.

Console Repairs Ireland will repair it for €100, so would prob be a better option if you are out of warranty.

In fairness, though NH, there are 120 people who voted that it didn't happen to them. Of course, can't change your vote if it happens after......Still a pity it wasn't seen fit to be stickied.

Again suggesting that this should be stickied, and if anyone wants to take a run at Sony, let them produce figures that dispute these. I still find it amazing that they will deny a serious problem, despite having a swap-out system in place in a logistics warehouse in Dublin. I haven't heard of any other major electronics supplier doing that. Even Apple, with a factory in Cork, operate centralised hubs in the UK, Holland or European countries for this.

People with PS3s, over a year old in particular, should vote in this to keep it up to date.

So may problems with using this vote in here as any kind of basis for the problem.

120 people. If Sony sold 12,000 PS3s here then thats 1% and, unfortunately, doesn't actually constitute a problem.

The watchdog thing was a complete joke. YLOD could mean a million things.

Got it around last January/Febuary on my 60 gig ps3, I think it happened to me because I hadn't left much space for air to get into the fans and it over heated as a result :(

Edit: Sorry it was the yellow light of that i got
