    ME (ish) UPPER

    Bench:
    60kg x5
    80kg x5
    100kg x5
    120kg x8 - PR
    130kg x5 - PR
    100kg x13

Face Pulls (retracting my scap before rotating):
    4x12

    Lateral Raises:
    12.5kg 'bells 3x15

Another big workout. I had planned on going for 130x5 today and was expecting it to be brutal, so I was only gonnna do 120 x2/3 to get ready for it. But it felt good, and I figured I was on for a PR so I went for it. Previous best was 7.

I was in the process of stripping the bar down and thought to myself "what the **** are you doing? you just hit a PR but it's not the one you came in for, now load 130 onto the bar". Turned out to be a good decision. The weight actually felt quite light. Went for the 6th rep and just missed it. I'm thinking 160kg as a raw goal might be on the low side of things this year... it's only May and I'm already at 150. My bench and squat are finally moving in the right direction. Couldn't be happier...

The scap retraction face pulls were cool. Could really feel all those little itty bitty muscles in my back working hard!!

    DEADLIFT CYCLE - DAY 1

    Sumo's:
    60kg 2x5
    100kg x5
    140kg x3
    160kg x3
    180kg x2
    205kg x2
    160kg 3x3, 1x2...and PING.

****ing hamstring again. I think I'm going to have to stay away from wide stance sumo work for a couple of months to give it a chance to heal. Of course that rises the question..... what the fcuk am I gonna do for the IPO comp in July?? I've a few options and a few training ideas I've been considering so I'll have to see how things play out over the next couple of months.

Oh and exams = finished :)

I think it's just fcuked at the moment. I honestly don't know if even another week woulda worked!!

And yup, that's what I'm thinking. I dunno how hard I can train it, but I'll give it a shot. Might work some 5x5's conventional and take a run a 240-250 if my leg will hold up.

The one thing I'm REALLY concerned about is that as soon as I put a tight knee wrap on it it'll pop again. Hopefully 6 weeks or so will be enough to prevent it, but wraps always throw me off so I like having some time to train in them.

And I've got another 5 months beofre I hit the working world!! :P It still hasn't sunk in yet. Oh and I'm already looking forward to casual Fridays. How sad is that???

I was going with the head in the sand approach.... I'll leave it for a couple of weeks and see how it progresses. Same thing that happened a month or so ago like and I was still able to squat once I took my stance in so hopefully I can keep at it.

I might do some work off a high box as my first or second movement. Try and get some top end strength up and get myself some more carryover.

Sorry to hear about your leg. Can you maybe concentrate more on benching / squat and getting those up a bit to compensate for the sumo?

Good luck with real life! :pac:

    Bench w/ rubber mat**:
    60kg x5
    80kg x5
    100kg x5
    120kg x3
    130kg x3
    140kg x3, x4

    Bench:
    60kg x5
    80kg x5
    100kg x5
    120kg x5 - paused
    *shirt on, 44 Katana*
    140kg x3
    150kg x3
160kg 3x3 (none of them touched)

    Dumbbell Floor Press:
    37.5kg 'bells 3x15 FINALLY

    Face pulls w/ scap retract:
    2x15 warmups
    3x15 work sets

**The rubber mat is like a big thick 2 foot square hot water bottle. It's around 4 inches thick and compress to 2 inches when the bar's on it. It completely saps everything out of the bar and makes it feel like a complete dead weight off my chest. Should hopefully be good for starting strength.

First day back in my Katana today. Completely different beast to the F6. MUCH harder to work in. The first two sets with 160kg were sh!te. I was all over the place groove wise. The last set was by far the best, but still an inch or two away from touching. Should hit it with 165 3x3 next week.

Happy with the dumbbell floor presses. Finally got that 3x15 I've been working for. I'll start with the 40kg 'bells and see where I can go now.

    Weight this AM was 103kg.

    SKWAAAAT

    Squat:
    60kg x10
    100kg x5
    120kg x5
    *belt on*
    140kg 3x12

    Leg Press:
    100kg x6
    150kg x6
    200kg x6
    250kg x6
    275kg 3x6

    Hanging Leg Raises:
    3x10

    Lying One Leg Curls:
    3x15

    Seated Calf Raises:
    25kg x15
    45kg 3x15

Happy enough with today. I'm giving the ME work a break til after the comp to hopefully let my hamstring heal up properly. The squats nearly had me on the floor. First set was fine, second took a while to recover from and the third left me lying down for quite some time. I've always responded well to lots of squat volume so with that in mind I've some rep and weight targets I want to hit before going into the comp in July.

Leg felt ok today. Slight pulling but nothing bad enough to make me stop.

    BEACH DAY

    Standing Calve Raises:
    75kg x10
    82.5kg x10
    90kg x10
    97.5kg 10x10 w/ 45 second rest periods

    Standing Barbell Curls:
    20kg x6
    30kg x6
    40kg x6
    50kg 3x6

    EZ Bar Preacher Curls:
    30kg x12, 10, 8

    Standing Cable Curls:
    plate 20 x15
    plate 25 3x15

I was trying to get a baseline for the calve work today. I think I went a bit too light. There was a fair bit left today. I'll bump it up a plate next week.

I've a cunning strategy for training my calves..... Hit them everytime I'm in the gym and hit them hard. It'll suck badly for a few weeks I'd say, but I'll HAVE to adapt at some point. And that's when my calves will start to grow.

Same thing with my gunzzzz, never really pushed them that hard. And when I do train em it's only ever one set with 3 or 4 sets. So I'm gonna put some real effort into them too and hopefully bring them up to around 17.5 inches this summer.

Ok well I've been doing the "anti BBSBC" thing for the last 8 weeks. I spent it bulking up. I'm around 103kg in this photo and it can be considered the REAL before shot. My diet started yesterday and so far so good. Hopefully in 6 weeks time I'll be within touching distance of the 90kg class with my abs on show.

    DE UPPER

Bench w/chains: (I threaded 2.5kg plates onto each chain so total weight at the top was 18ish kg)
    60kg x3
    70kg 4x3 (close)
    80kg 4x3 (wide)

    Bench:
    60kg x5
    80kg x5
    100kg x5
    117.5kg 5x5

    Chins: (palms facing)
    bodyweight x12, 8, 8

    Neutral Grip Pulldowns:
    plate 10 5x10

    One Arm Lateral Raise:
7.5kg 'bells 3x12 (run straight thru, no rest when switching from arm to arm)

    *90 min break*

    Bent Over Row:
    60kg x8
    80kg x8
    90kg x8
    100kg 3x8

    Fat Man Rows:
    bodyweight 2x12

Fairly decent session. Happy with 117.5kg 5x5. 120's on the cards for next week still.

Got asked if I fancied a strongman comp at the end of the month today. I know a few of the lads who will be competiting and I will be getting my ass handed to me, but it's tempting to go down just to see how I get on!

I should probably log my diet this time around for prosperity.

    14/5/08 - 2,711kcals in 249/203/98 p/c/f aka 37%/29%/33%
    15/5/08 - 2,826kcals in 244/199/113 p/c/f aka 35%/28%/37%

I'll reweigh in on Sunday and depedning on how much my weight's fallen I'll readjust the kcals.
