Worse, 50km/h. The 30km/h limit doesn't kick in until Grattan Bridge so you're at the section of quays with the Millennium and Ha'penny Bridge before you have the reduced 30km/h.

I gave up cycling that section of the inner city many years ago. Too many incidents, too much futile aggression and one-upmanship on display from the tin-box operators.

Took a fall last October. Was flying along with a tailwind and clipped the edge of the road and went down @ 40kmh. Managed to fix my front puncture and straighten the bars and limp home. Carbon bars broke (not fully) and a few scuffs to shifters, but my hand took the brunt of the fall I think. Thought it was just bruised, but was actually broken. Damaged a few ribs as well that took weeks to get over. Hand is 95% recovered now and ribs totally ok, but still working on fixing the bike.. (got a new summer bike in the meantime. :) )

About a year ago, in Roscommon town centre. I live in Dublin, but was in Roscommon for the day. Cycling from the station to the main street through the carpark there, and the bike went from under me, with a bad gash on the knee.

patched it up, but when I got home that evening there was big piece of flappy skin hanging off that I thought needed stitches.

To James' A&E, where the triage nurse stuck a plaster on it and told me to wait.

When my phone battery got to 10 or 15% 5-6 hours later, I left. Took ages to heal, with a big scar.

An ebike with disc brakes, but I lost confidence in the tyres, tbh.

Fell this evening whilst trying to be nice to a passing van driver. Heading up McDonagh's lane from Brittas, I pulled leftwards into the edge of a driveway to let him go past. I hadn't noticed the long cut in the concrete which was like a tramline - wheel stuck and I went down to my right just as he's going by. My initial thought was to keep my head away from his wheels. Then my concern was for my bike which is only a month old. The bars had hit the ground and moved the lever inwards but I was able to move them back. My leg had supported the frame thankfully so no scratches - phew.

Then it occurred to me that my laptop in my backpack could have been damaged- checked at home and it was fine.

Elbow and calf scratched with plenty of blood to make me look hard as nails for the rest of my way home.

What kinda annoyed me was that the driver didn't stop. A passing mountain biker checked if I was OK as I was picking up the broken Tesco light that has been an unused backup clipped onto the backpack for several years - anyhow, if you're on here, thanks 👍

Out for a spin with a mate today. Took a little detour off road around some woods.

As I was negotiating a yellow steel barrier/gate, I caught my pedal on the H beam used as a post, and landed literally on my face at less than walking pace.

Haven’t contributed to this thread for years. Fingers crossed it will be a long time before I do again.

Came off on a corner during a Vets race about 4 weeks ago. Small bit of gravel I hadn’t seen the previous two laps, front wheel went and I was down before I could react. The rider in front of me got through it with just a small wobble and thankfully I didn’t take anyone else down.

Fractured collarbone, fractured rib and the usual gnarly road rash. Helmet paid for itself a hundred times over.

Surprisingly little damage to the bike. New bar tape and a thorough safety check that it passed with top marks. It’s on the wall behind me now, wondering why I won’t take it outside in this lovely weather.

That’s my second racing crash involving a collarbone but I got 12 years in between which I think is decent odds.

Right cheek is tender, but no obvious marking. Right knee is sore too, so I'm assuming I landed on that too
