Not holding out much hope for a thunderstorm in Dublin today but you never know…

I'll happily take rain at least. But fingers crossed we'll get lucky

On this day 11 years ago I captured this on video, might get lucky again.

Constant low rumbling thunder for last 20mins, S Tipp

Well, having missed out yesterday, today we seem to be right in the firing line of an array of storms seemimgly being formed over the Galtees. Not individual peals of thunder but continous rumbles. This must be what it's like to hear a distant artillery barrage.

Getting going now in the south, the models look like it’ll be another miss for the NW😕 will keep an eye on the radar for later in the afternoon

In Killarney, quite dull now and humid, could see towering convection a bit further inland, holding dry here for now.

Unusually early in the day for this sort of development, could be quite the afternoon and evening in the midlands.

People should be very vigilant for wild fires through, the lightning strikes will have a field day with the parched scrub and grasses.

A powerful 43Ka cloud to ground lightning strike at Ballyhourigan Woods in County Tipperary in the past 15 minutes. Thunderstorm activity is picking up across Munster in particular.

When was the last time we even had a rumble of thunder in Dublin never mind an actual storm? Maybe there was one or two last summer but I can't recall anything at all last year

if you live in a county next to a neighbouring county with a yellow warning you are still at risk. Dublin may be in the firing line by this evening. From the Ballysimon area near Limerick city I heard rumbles from the cell in my north east in the last hour.

Looking up I think Dublin might get something later on? Potential there if you ask me.

Some very heavy rain showers in Rathdrum Wicklow in the past 30 minutes but no thunder or lightning yet.

Kicked off now in a big way along Tipp, Waterford and Kilkenny. No sign yet of them moving northwards.

Any idea if this will drift towards south Dublin

I got caught out on the golf course in a cracker last year in Dublin. Had to run in from the 10th. Drive home was ferocious, could barely see out the window with the rain.

Multiple fork and sheet lightning and rolls.

These thunderstorms down south don't have to drift north. They'll bubble up themselves practically anywhere in the country. I'm in North meath and a small cell has bubbled up out of nothing with hail and thunder

Just heard a rumble of thunder in west Waterford along with a lightning bolt a few minutes ago. No rain at the moment although we did have deluge a couple of hours ago without thunder and lightning. The rain is very welcome.

Lots of rumbling for the last half hour or so , Portlaoise. Big heavy raindrops starting to fall now .

I heard a few very faint distant rumbles from Portarlington half hour ago , checked the radar and there were a couple of strikes around Clonaslee/Rosenallis and the cloud formations are building nicely now around me

Lots of distant rumbling near Mountrath with cells a few kilometres North and South, but bone dry so far.
