Possibility of warnings tomorrow if enough thunderstorms break out . Fairly good potential with enough vorticity in the atmosphere and cold air aloft, towards the surface a lot of convergence zones aiding lift along with the warming day. Enough moisture in the atmosphere to produce heavy convective showers.

'A level 1 was issued for parts of S Ireland mainly for a few tornado events and heavy rain.'

    ... S Ireland ...

'A level 1 for an augmented funnel/short-lived tornado and flash flood risk was issued for the noon/afternoon hours. The background environment offers decent LL CAPE along a slow moving LL confluence zone for a few spin-ups especially during the more discrete phase along any LL convergence zone. Betimes, clustering convection poses an heavy rain risk with isolated flash flooding possible. The risk decays after sunset.'

I reckon the charts would be highlighting the area below as the main area supporting thunderstorm activity although some could be quite isolated, could get isolated storms outside of this area also and a few might just migrate across in to the NE . S Leinster might have the most shower activity and it is where thunderstorms might break out first and then taking in parts of Connaught and parts of Munster . Could get some areas reporting localized flooding and could get reports of hail in a few spots.

The first thunderstorm activity of the day has been recorded in west Wicklow at Saundersgrove, near Baltinglass. Thunderstorms will continue to develop across inland Leinster, and later into north Munster and south Connacht this evening. There will be heavy downpours with possible spot flooding where showers occur. It will remain sunny and dry further north.

Yep, couple of rumbles off to the east here in South Kildare with few large drops falling here now.

Same here (SW Laois), quite an active cell kicking off to my East

Two Cloud To Ground (Strong slammer) lightning strikes between Cloughjordan & Nenagh and near Templemore in Tipperary. Power has been lost in parts of Offaly as a result of ongoing thunderstorm activity.

Donner, Blitzen and rain in North Tipp. It's quietened down now.

Looked promising but doesn't seem to want to move North. They seem to all be around Limerick again

    Frequent rumblings over Kilkenny now

A 29,000 ampere cloud to ground lightning strike was recorded between Rathkeale and Adare in County Limerick 15 minutes ago. Unsurprisingly, power has been knocked out in the immediate area.

Big convection in Kerry, just had a few drops at my site dide swiped from a main shower , warm day, mistbof the convection doesn't look deep enough for sparks apart from over the mountains.

High of 24.4C at my site, down to 19.7C now.

I see Shannon down to 16C, must have had big showers.

Fair amount of sferics recorded and some heavy localized rain returns on the radar, haven't heard any reports of hail. 5 counties under yellow warning to expire at 20.00 but most activity gone for now although still some rain about but that too is diminishing , getting windy here near Tralee now as if a shower is going to appear. Rainfall radar showing heavy rain in N Kerry, temp dropped now 16.1c , that gust of dropped the temp 4c in only 15mins, must have been a downdraught out of the nearby cloud producing rain.

Gotten windy on the stacks with a few drops of rain. Thunder sounded local. We live in hope

    Edit .it's bucketing 🤣🤣

I watched as the storm crept closer and closer to Clonmel, then it all fell apart and we got not even a drop.

Upper cold pool and LL convergence in abundance with decent vorticity and transiting trough all aiding instability, noticeably not as warm tomorrow but enough heating getting into the high teens in the afternoon in parts especially the W and NW along with topographical lift all helping to produce convection of which some will be electrified mainly from a line around Limerick up to the North of the country and could get some thunderstorms elsewhere also like Tipp/ N Cork but less of a chance according to the ECM, some of the models showing heavy convective rain spreading more into the the SE so not a lot of agreement between the models, might have to see later model output for more cross model agreement.

I would think under the upper cold pool would have the most chance of thunderstorm activity tomorrow.

A level 1 was issued for parts of S Ireland mainly for an isolated tornado and heavy rain risk.

    ... Ireland ...

In the vicinity of a quasi-stationary upper trough and atop modest BL moisture, expect a diurnal increase of MUCAPE in the 400-500 J/kg range. Especially ICON is rather bullish with 0-3 km CAPE build-up along the S fringe of the vortex, which looks reasonable with ongoing advection of an Atlantic airmass from the S with 2m dewpoints up to 10 C (a bit higher than yesterday). Initiating cells pose an isolated tornado risk but the more dominant hazard evolves betimes with clustering and slow moving convection, which brings heavy rain. This activity weakens beyond sunset.

Even in Leitrim we could get some thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and welcomed rain but as always it's hard to pin point them but much broader area tomorrow than today I'd say in my opinion maybe 12 counties or more could be in a yellow warning ⚠️

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,748 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Unusual to hear heavy rain, a Rain Rate of 17- 23mm/h, currently dropped 3.0 mm in minutes easing a bit now. Very narrow band of convection.

Some scattered moderate to heavy showers to be expected overnight in the mid West especially

Edit: ended up with 3.6mm from that shower.

Yeah Dazler, could get thunderstorms fairly widespread tomorrow , hard to pinpoint as models showing different scenarios, maybe more scattered than I was thinking earlier. Models showing some heavy rain in parts tomorrow, could be a bit more than heavy just showers, some of which could merge into some more prolonged rain in parts. I believe the ECM and other models show the heaviest rainfalls where the main shortwave trough line lingers the longest, its not all the picture though as convection will form also away from it where warming occurs during the afternoon under the upper trough. Yes think there could be warnings issued again tomorrow and from looking at the models thinking we could be getting reports of localized spot flooding.

Absolutely 💯 could be very well bad tomorrow but again it is very hard to pin point , spot flooding will probably happen and possibly an odd flash flood too the ground is so dry in parts and if the rain is heavy enough it won't have time to soak through, I do love thunderstorms 😀

Locations north of a line from mid-Wexford to Clare and south of South Mayo to Louth are most at risk of seeing thundery showers during Tuesday. There is a smaller risk of some thunderstorms over Ulster. Good spells of sunshine elsewhere. Largely dry and sunny everywhere on Wednesday and Thursday.
Motorists are advised to drive with extra caution on Tuesday, particularly during or after rainfall—especially in areas that have been dry since late April. After an extended dry spell, rain can make roads unusually slippery due to the accumulation of dirt and contaminants like fuel, oil, and rubber.
