Trying to set up a Nokia basic phone for my son.

I need to enter a SMS service centre number. Anyone know what it is?

(I think Customer Support is closed)

Do you need to make a top up every 6 months to keep the mobile number active?

It was 0818 789 789, or you can can call AnPost general support number 01-7057700. I used to ring exactly at opening at 9.00 am, otherwise you'd be on hold for ages. I'm sure they're still operating, though they've probably lost a lot of customers since their call service degraded to 2G, and they weren't providing 4G calling, only data. I and many others have jumped ship, I moved to Sky which is working well on the Vodafone 4G/5G network, after a lot if initial trouble with provisioning some phones fully with all services. Their support is useless though, Asian based call centre reading out bot generated answers, going around in circles. With AnPost you can always call into a post office which supports mobile setup. Generally the larger ones, you can check which ones on their website, or just call in to one and they'll direct you to the nearest with mobile support. Inserting the sim in the phone should be enough to set up the text service centre configuration, but call in and ask them.

I rang them last week. It was nothing to do with the settings.

Turns out that the €12.99 bundle I bought only allows texts between An Post mobile numbers and not any other networks. As I had no credit on the phone it wouldn't allow the messages to send.

Bought a separate SMS bundle and all working fine.

With AnPost, calling out disappears a few days after the top up date. You could try a small top up for call credit to see if calls are restored. Data will disappear too though. A Vodafone user here said he maintained reasonable connection by just adding €5 call and data topups rather than the full monthly bundle prepay topup, €20 at the time I think. In the pre bundle days it used to be 6 months, you could receive calls and texts with no credit. Many teenagers operate this way, especially when free wifi lets them message their friends, and mammy could still call them.

you would be aswell paying €18 for the unlimited everything plan then, 28 days or even better 31 days with auto top up.

I think the €15 one works as well. It's a basic Nokia, so he won't be using data. It's only really to keep in touch when he's on his way to/from school.
