Just finished this and thought it the best series I've seen this year. Having not read the books, I thought the season finale reveal was gobsmackingly good.

According to Wikipedia, filming has resumed for Season 2 much to the relief I'm sure of many on here.

Cool. I decided not to get my hopes up for season 2 and started on the book series instead. Few chapters away from the end of the second book "Shift" at the moment. Probably be a long time before the series gets through the books anyway, season 1 only gets about half way into the first book.

Ah yeah it's easily a contender for best series of 2023 TBH: the ease with which Apple+ seems to be knocking out eminently watchable shows is kinda nuts. They're not all best in class, but it's rare I've had a total dud.

This and Foundation were the two best series of the year.

Monarch is very impressive too and I'm not massively into the Godzilla genre

Apple TV is rivaling HBO in the quality stakes. Within sci-fi genre alone, we have absolutely fantastic shows like Severance, Foundation, For All Mankind and Silo.

Foundation in particular I have no idea how they managed to get it so lavish looking with a relatively small budget. Looks like something you'd see in the cinema.

No-one would have imagined Apple TV becoming the home of good sci-fi.

When Apple announced they were getting into the Streaming service, I openly mocked the idea (here on Boards too IIRC) and figured they'd be the first to fall from a dearth of watchable material. But as I type now, if push came to shove and could only keep one streamer? It'd be Apple, no question; that they're on the cheaper end of the scale too just makes their value even greater.

'Foundation' is an example of how you can spend money well and achieve a great look. Whoever is in charge of location scouting does a superb job, really getting a feel for different planets. The SFX are also top class, better than a lot of recent Marvel stuff. Simple techniques like only doing a small pan of establishing planet shots apparently saves them a load of money on rendering, etc but manages to get that grand look.

Anyone know if the footage/trailer shown at SDCC is available to view online anywhere?

Im totally lost with this show, can we put spoilers tag in the title…

so we were led to believe that the window was showing a false image of desolation, hiding a lush green outside, when she actually gets outside, it is actually an area of desolation?? wtf

Well that first episode was very good. Some nice backstory to her. I wonder thought will we see the inside of the other Silo again. Am sure we will.

Very strange ending do. Next week's episode should be interesting.

I was thinking looks like it could be a very lonely existence for her but at least she survived and then that. OK.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Watched it tonight - very good but somewhat spoiled having read the books. Seems pretty faithful though for most of it anyway.

Really Really enjoyed that, that one task has me fully engaged, she did an awesome job carrying that episode and the backstory was actually interesting and opened up layers. Can't wait for next week.

wouldnt you want to build something the guarantees you an exit?

She thought someone was alive in there so it was just about getting over. Getting back was a problem for another day in her mind IMO.

Really enjoyed the backstory to the other Silo and exploring it in the aftermath. Just shows how things could easily play out and also confirmed beyond doubt that going outside is lethal. Why the smoke and mirrors so? Maybe it's just to keep the silo's secret from each other.

Ya I think it's the last bit. Those green grass videos seem to be just about distracting people for the few minutes before they die. It's probably also why they all "clean the window"

It might only be "our" Silo that is cut off because before the rebellion/pact there seems to have been no secrets.

A lot gets explained in the books so I have to be careful not to give too many spoilers.

But essentially the fake display on the helmet is there to make sure they do their cleaning duty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,646 ✭✭✭✭expectationlost

but its shown on the big window/screen not just the helmet

Only for a second during a glitch. Window must have switched to the wrong feed.

I binged watched the first season the other week. Balls waiting a week for 1E now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,831 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Much better in reality though. You can't chat about a binge series because everyone is on different episodes and you have to spend all your time avoiding spoilers.

Four episodes in and it's an absolute snorefest , nothing is happening and far too much time is spent in the silo Rebecca Ferguson left

Pity as the first series was really good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,365 ✭✭✭✭ejmaztec

It seems to be the same old same old each week with people in the 1st silo almost having a rebellion and Rebecca Ferguson fannying around in the other silo. I wouldn't be surprised if in the last few seconds of the finale Rebecca appears outside the 1st silo to clean the camera lens and gives them the middle finger. 😛

It's like they ran out of ideas ,pure filler now for four episodes and the character " solo" is just annoying and pointless

So far I'm enjoying season 2. But the pace has been a bit plodding at times. Hopefully it begins to pick up a bit

Thoughts on this season? Not as good as s1 IMO. Thought e4 was predictable, saw the 2 “twists” coming. The Juliette storyline is going nowhere. 5 is episodes in and it’s much the same there
