It doesn't look like anyone has mentioned the Fiat Topolino yet... it's the fiat variation of the Ami & looks fantastic. I really believe these things are the future oif cars in cities (for the short-medium term anyway)... Aparently Opel have one too called the Rocks-e.

The restriction is around licencing rather than just safety... You can drive these in some European countries without a license at 14 years old. The limitation on power and speed is to fit them into a particular license category.

From €10k though in its home country of Italy. Don't know if that includes any subsidies (not available in Ireland for EVs this cheap - which really is a shame)

Yes I have seen and known of it for sometime but as Fiat is virtually gone here and the AMI is still not on sale here just did not see the point in mentioning it. I have also recently seen tgre might be an Alfa Romeo version too do I think that really would be pointless.

Also knew of the Opel version basically just a badge engineered version so that will not be coming here mostly just sold in Germany.

Awe OK. Yes I know that.

Yes agreed its a disgrace that there is no grants for cheaper electric vehicles in this country.

Fiat has a new distributor in Ireland. They have been basically off the market for a number of years, but the new deal should see them back in regular supply...

They are all badge engineered to some extent... having said that, the Fiat would appeal to me over the other two. They compete with each other for the various demographics, which is no bad thing...

BMW have been doing this for years... Producing infinate variations of the same thing, so that people see them completing with themselves... It maintains the impression of choice...

Only discovered the Topolino because of Fiat's ads.

Then there was this one (nothing to do with EVs), with 10 million views.

Even the lads in the south of France now want to sell their Ami and buy a Topolino 😂

DCEV in Dublin have one here for sale. I think a promo one was seen at some Citroen event but not sure it's the same one. Not yet listed on their website as of yesterday.

Never heard of them before. Just had a quick look and their prices look highly optimistic. A 6 year old Tesla Model X for €86k, seriously? A 3 year old Model 3 LR for €59k? These are €46k brand new from Inventory

What an idiot. For one it's not a car it's a quadricycle. Two no the seats are not uncomfortable. How do I know? I sat in one. First thing I though was what are they on about these seats are plenty comfy.

Three. It's crazy these two clowns are driving around without ever doing a theory test or driving lessons. That's just dangerous.

Bit harsh there? The guy must be the wrong side of 60. Driving around in that thing all day for two years. I can understand he doesn't find it comfortable, or safe.

He calls it a quadricycle several times in that clip. Not sure what makes you think otherwise. He's obviously well aware of what it is.

Also I'm sure they are law obiding. If they don't need a license to drive that, why would they get one? Not their fault it's not required, is it? Although I agree with you that's just dangerous. These cars' top speed of 45km/h is just dangerous.

Ye I noticed that. It just annoys me when he says it's a car when it clearly is not.

NI on ESB charger. Some comment on post about cable going in window, cable too short so driver parked over the middle white line blocking in other EV parked behind. If charging cable was longer the quadrocycle could have parked further forward.

I believe there is one in Drogheda direction and will be at some local EV day.

You can test drive an ami in Drogheda tomorrow at a public event. You need to register and tick the test drive option. I will see if I can roll it over...

It didn't roll over..surprisingly roomy. Fitted 2 x adults side by side no issue, I am 6ft3 and no issues driving. Driver on wrong side. Dash seems very far away. Surprisingly low power. Old fashioned key, turn key to start, manual handbrake off.

Are they actually for sale from Citroen in Ireland now or was that a grey import?

Grey import, It's DCEV and you can "subscribe" to it as part of their medium term rental, minimum 30 days. I am sure they would sell it to you too. 395/month including insurance, tax etc. You can switch to another car every 30 days, other car options are all more expensive. E.g. if you wanted a bigger car, car with towbar, and you can downsize again later.

An interesting review of an Opel Rocks E - the German versions of the Citroen Ami

    It even gets 75 kmh**

(**Downhill with a tail wind and forced into neutral by braking then pressing N)

€8,700 with extras included in Germany

Its officially here, I have driven one, not sure I would had over 10k, but maybe as a third car a used one might be fun.

Some Irish rip-off taxes applied there. And it's unfortunate that it is too cheap to get any EV grant. A bit unfair that too. In France these are €7,990 and you get near €2,500 grant, so a €5.5k car. At that price it is a great wee car for the money. Not at double that…

€120 motor tax lol and a full B category driving licence required to drive it even do it's a quadricycle what a joke.

My Electric Trike can go faster, does not need a full license and I can drive it by myself oh and my tax is cheaper 🙂 .

I also have electric windows, ventilated disc brakes all around, really nice alloy wheels, a proper seat that is leather too and a reversing camera 🙂 . Oh and it's fun to drive. You can do 360s and 180s in it sometimes intentionally and sometimes not lol. Not that I would encourage it not at all.

Also you can get electric Trikes that do 60kph but not sure if the tax would be more on them.

It's annoying but the cheapest ones used in Europe are 7k and in the UK they are 5k (STG) plus there's vat etc from the UK. VRT would (afaik) not be zero as it's too cheap to qualify for the grant. It would be cheaper to buy the new one here than buy either of the used ones and pay for transport.

Saw 2 of these on separate occasions in Italy last week. A right little dinger for a city car. Tis a pity it's stupidly expensive here... hopefully there's a nice surprise in tomorrow budget which results in a lower cost to buy.

    There shouldn't and wont be.
Cuts need to be made but further incentives for middle and upper class families to buy a new EV would not be palatable IMO.

Cuts likely would be a percentage point cut to USC, an increase on the PAYE band thresholds, probable return for the cost of living energy payments, and an increase to JSB/JSA payments, including possibly focusing on higher payments for those who recently lost high paying jobs. Not that I agree with most of those, but that's what I think is likely. There's a whole politics thread for this though (https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058370828/budget-2025) so I'll keep the rest of my comments for that.

WRT the Ami I think it's actually well priced for what it is. It is similarly cheap as the twizy was (allowing for inflation), but the twizy here had a battery rental to pay too.
