    Nothing will happen.

They view the Avios/AerClub program as a necessary evil, or as an itch that you have to scratch now and again, as opposed to a genuine engine for growth.

Which is, needless to say, idiotic if your primary market is transatlantic. Delta are now pulling in something like 20% of revenue from their credit card tie up with Amex. Obviously different lending environment, but the US carriers are properly leaning into their ability to market more than flights to customers.

But I'm sure it'll be grand in Shamrock House.

Sent email just there with a reference to consumer protection legislation. I don't hold out any hope but at least it has been registered. Still very annoyed as I was on target for a tier upgrade. Wording as follows:

"Hello, I would just like to register my annoyance at the recent changes to Aer Club.

My year started in Nov 23. I had earned 140 tier points when my account was reset. I am now down to 0. Since the reset I have taken a trip to the US (earning 75 points) and I have Aer Lingus flights booked in May, Jun, Aug and Sept so was confident of going up a tier by Nov 24.

I travel a lot with work and use Aer Lingus when I can. Our work travel agent doesn’t ‘stock’ Aer Lingus so I book directly and have to defend that decision each time. I do so due to my preference for the Aer Lingus staff and of course to achieve status.

I feel like I have been ‘downgraded’ through no fault of my own, with the terms of the program changing unilaterally mid year. I am not even sure this is allowed through consumer protection legislation. I feel that at the least there should have been a ‘pro-rata’ resetting of points.

On the plus side I am happy I can now earn points on BA as this opens up opportunities for me for destinations which Aer Lingus does not cover.

    Regards,"

  • you make a good point that staying loyal to aer Lingus for business travel in a lot of the bigger companies who use travel agents requires sacrifices and this may be the final straw that breaks the camel back for a lot of frequent fliers.

in my place we use cwt for our bookings, if you book aer Lingus you can’t manage your booking full stop, you can view it but can’t change anything. You can’t change your seat (even when checking in online, you have to go to the airport), even to add advance passenger information requires a phone call to the sh1t show that is aer Lingus’s Bulgarian call centre. Not the case with delta, aa nor American.

I was in line to get to platinum by November but won’t now so my loyalty is gone.

Yep, we have CWT too. Its harder and harder to avoid using them as it involves a lot of explaining. With Aer Lingus seemingly uninterested in loyalty I may not bother any more.

If you are stuck with CWT make sure your company has the travelfusion API enabled for Aer Lingus, if that is enabled you can get bookings which are basically booked via EI directly and can be fully managed via the website etc

Works out cheaper as well in most cases. Learned my lesson a long time ago and thankfully when I was able to show significant savings it put my travel folks in a corner

Hi all, anyone know if you book a BA flight but use your AerClub number will it appears on both the EI and BA apps?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭BigMoose

Yes, assuming you use the same email address for both your BA and EI accounts (at least I can see a recent booking in both and I do use the same email address). You can't do much with it in the EI app though. My first leg is on EI metal and can't even pay for a seat through either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭BigMoose

I have booked DUB-LHR-CPH via BA giving my Aerclub number not BA exec club, one leg of the 4 is on EI metal but I can't for the life of me work out what actual baggage allowance I have on that leg. BA says "1 checked bag, weight restrictions might apply" - but for the 3 BA legs it says 23kg. On the EI app it says "no bag"… Assume it's 23kg on all 4 legs and not just a 10kg checked hand luggage on the EI leg?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,250 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

    23kg checked

    10kg carry on

Anyone know how to transfer avios from BA to EI? I have done it before but the process seems to have changed and all the guides online are out of date. I have contacted both BA and EI but got no response.

Log into your BA account, scroll down to where you see your Avios balance and click on Go to my account.

I then click on view transactions to bring up the menu i need - it is on the left for me, click on manage my account, scroll down to combine my avios and select AerClub.

If you've done it before you'll know your 2 accounts must match 100%

May be a shorter way but, this is how I do it - failed for me when I tried at the weekend though and I know have a ticket raised with BA/Avios to make the transfer for me.

Try to use the "private browsing" option in your browser if you get errors like "Sorry, combine my Avios was unsuccessful", looks like there is some issues with cookies and browser data if you have both EI and BA cookies.

Also, for EI it's best to use the Executive Club / Combine my Avios choice from the top menu not the left. The left sometimes does only show Iberia/Qatar while the top always shows EI.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭longrunn

That's what the guides online say, and if I recall correctly the way I used to do it, but now I only get Iberia and Qatar options…

    Move Avios between your accounts

You can combine Avios from an Iberia Plus or Qatar Airways Privilege Club account. The value of your Avios will be the same, moving them means you can choose how you spend them. It’s easy to move Avios when and where it suits you, simply choose the amount you’d like to move.

I did it earlier today - this is what i see in the various options

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭longrunn

By finding the combine option through the top menu, I do get option for Aer Club as well. I get an error when I try to combine though, and private browsing doesn't help :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭longrunn

Found that way through the top menu, as suggested by Yggr of Asgard. However I get an error when doing it and private browsing doesn't help. At least it is some progress!

Aircoach has started giving Avios for registered credit card spend, but the amounts are all over the shop - meant to be 5/€ but I've got anywhere from 1/€ to 5/€ so far on a few bookings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,253 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

AerClub estore is a really good way to collect Avios for online shopping and some minor in store things like Aircoach.

it’s really an overlooked benefit, especially when you sometimes even can double dip with Revolut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 811 ✭✭✭MICKEYG

Just to note that I have heard nothing back, not even the cookie cutter response.

Booking.com is back up to 8 Avios per €1. I make most of my Avios of hotel bookings.

There is no guarantee this will work for you, but you can always try.

Find a shop that is giving both AerClub estore Avios and Cashback on Revolut via the Lifestyle/Shop.

Use 2 devices (a laptop for Aerclub and the mobile for Revolut).

Visit the store via the Aerclub link (make sure to accept cookies).

Start purchasing until you are ready to check out (again make sure you accept all cookies on the shop's website).

Open your Revolut App and click on the cashback link in the app and let the shop's webpage open on your phone's browser. It will tell you that you have 30 minutes to pay. Close the browser.

Go back to your laptop and pay with your revolut card. Do not use the Revolut Shopper Extension or Paypal, it must be your revolut card.

Once the charges come through on your revolut card by the shop you immediately get the cashback credited.

This works because AerClub uses cookies and links it to the purchase and that linkage is required, once the shop confirms the transaction (can take weeks) you get the Avios based on the cookie, however the Revolut tracking does not rely on cookies / shop feedback, it rather takes the fact that the charge came through as proof you shopped via the link in the App.

While for some merchants it's only 1% for others there is significantly higher % available, I recently did make a larger purchase and got 7 Avios per € and 5 % cashback, was quite a nice reward for something I needed.

Again this might not work for you or either Revolut or AerClub might notice and do a claw back but in the month that I have used this, it always worked for me.

    No harm in trying

Can you explain what you mean by Revolut?

Very intrigued if there is a way to earn points. Thanks

Q: I got a fairly expensive Aer Lingus Saver fare for the summer, for the same route I'm now seeing heavily reduced prices (for about 30% of what I paid) with Ryanair. Of course I can't get a refund now with Aer Lingus, as that's only available on the Advantage fare.

Would in theory it be possible to upgrade my current Saver fare to Advantage - and once that is done request a refund voucher or cash refund? Would this then also include my original amount that I paid to get the Saver fare?

It looks like this is possible, but wondering if anyone has this done before. Thanks!

No, only the amount you paid for the fare upgrade would be refundable.

If the original fare type booked was non-refundable, and then subsequently changed, only the fare difference is eligible for a cash refund.

Thanks for checking. On the BA site did you use Avios Partners in the dropdown menu and also did you use your email address or Aerclub ID to login

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,505 ✭✭✭VG31

I selected Avios Partners and used my AerClub username. Your name, address, DoB etc have to match exactly in both accounts to transfer Avios

Actually ignore the above it worked for me, believe it or not it was caps in my address that was different. thanks again

Sorry I know this constantly gets asked. Return to USA ticketed via EI but flying American Airlines gives Avios but no Tier Credits, right?

Includes lounge based on tier status?

Assume can't use upgrades from tier?

    Can use Avios to upgrade?

Do you have to book through a portal or just pay booking .com with the aer lingus card to get them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,997 ✭✭✭pureza

You absolutely do need to go through the aerlingus portal and have cookies switched on

Thats the only way to track your purchase as having been referred by Aer lingus

I was caught out once with cookies off and tgere was no budge,no avios was earned

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭BigMoose

Last time I flew on AA metal from an EI ticket I got no Avios or Tier credits - was last oct and granted that was an internal US flight after changing from EI metal in ORD. But I was told at the time the transatlantic leg on AA metal gives nothing so I've tried to avoid doing that, which is a real pain when going to DFW

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭polydactyl

is the portal not working for anyone? Needs to buy something in sketchers so might as well get the avois but when I click any of the portal links the relevant website is not opening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭BigMoose

When booking via EI and you get offered a leg BA long haul, is it possible to buy premium economy for that leg? The EI website doesn't allow it…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,250 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

Nope only economy or business (so no premium economy or First)

As you can now earn AerClub tier credits on BA issued tickets, just book via BA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭BigMoose

The problem with that is the return leg is insane via BA but EI has some reasonable options. It's annoying BA doesn't offer EI metal other than to LHR as far as I can tell.

Use expedia or similar to get the combination you want

Insert the Frequent flyer number you want at booking or in Manage bbooking afterwards

Has anyone here booked a lounge in Dublin Airport via loungepass to earn avios? Wondering if I’m missing something here as it’s only €26 on loungepass while earning avios and the same lounge is €35 on DAA website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,505 ✭✭✭VG31

I've used that site a few times (not at Dublin) but the last few times I never received the Avios.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,249 ✭✭✭Rowley Birkin QC

Is this now up and running?

I'd like to get back to flying to City rather than Heathrow if the tier credits are flowing properly as they should.

Has anyone tried to cancel a reward flight booking? AerLingus telling me that they can’t be refunded (save for a tax refund), whereas I understood that they could be fully refunded less a fee (of about €43).

  • Registered Users Posts: 113 ✭✭SB Morer

when you say a ‘reward flight’ do you mean an Avios booking or an Aer Credit Card ‘free flights’ booking? The latter are not cancelllable to the best of my knowledge - you won’t get the reward flights reinstated . The published cancellation fee for flights booked via rewards.aerlingus.com is €42.50 per person.

Change to the Carry On Policy - 10 kg Hand Carry-on Baggage does no longer include Priority Boarding.

The priority boarding lane will be available to Concierge, Platinum and Silver AerClub members, AerSpace and Business Class customers.

    Rules updated on https://www.aerlingus.com/prepare/bags/carry-on-baggage/
